EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that Miramax transaction between owner Disney and soon-to-be new owners, construction magnate Ron Tutor and Tom Barrack’s Santa Monica-based Colony Capital (led by former Disney CFO Richard Nanula), won’t be finalized until the end of the year or soon after because of “strictly logistical reasons”. (“Standard practice in a deal of this magnitude,” one insider tells me.) As a result, it has impacted two movies: The Debt, which was supposed to be released on December 29th, and Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark the end of January. Now both pics are postponed until parent company Filmyard, which is what Tutor and Barrack are calling their new film company umbrella over Miramax, takes over. No new dates have been set.

Wonder if this will lead to an almost year-long delay for The Debt so it can open during the following year’s Oscar season?
Shame. Saw THE DEBT in Toronto and it’s a good adult drama/thriller. Great performances, slick look. Real shame.
“Strictly logistical reasons”? “Standard practice in a deal of this magnitude”? Give me a break. Either the necessary amount of equity has not been secured, or the necessary amount of debt has not been secured, or both.
I’ve heard good things about “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” but it’s starting to get a weird stink online about it a’la George Christy and his SAG dealings as a web journalist has an associate producer credit on it and has been endlessly shilling it on his movie site Chud.com for over a year. It probably would have been wise to cut him loose!
i was SO excited for DBAOTD. LOOKED AMAZING!
Saw The Debt in Toronto and loved it. Very tense thriller with great performances from Mirren and Chastain especially. Someone will pick this up and make some money with it.
I am excited maybe in addition to those 2 movies, we will finally also get to see “Nailed” finished. (I am a fan of Girl Squaw 5)
