Liam Neeson will shoot his cameo in The Hangover: Part II this Sunday in Los Angeles. Director Todd Phillips moved quickly to lock in a replacement for Mel Gibson, who was dropped from playing the role of an intense tattoo artist because of objections from cast and crew. Neeson recently starred in Unknown for Warner Bros, which the studio is high on and slotted to open on President’s Day weekend.

I guess they want to generate buzz, but I think it would have been better if this was kept a secret…
By running Mel off this film, the cast has declared themselves perfect. God help any of them who get into trouble in the future.
I like Neeson but what a boring choice. They should have got a female along the lines of Streep. That would have been funnier and not as obvious. Kind of Mirren in Red.
Mirren is obvious as hell in Red
I have read the news that Liam Neeson has replaced Gibson on Hangover 2, it’s the first comedy film for Liam if I am not mistaken and I’m sure that his fans will love him in his new character here.
That fat guy in the Hangover (who nobody knows his name)complains like a girl-scout about Mel Gibson and then Gibson is off the movie. I saw that trailer with him and Robert Downey Jr. and he’s not funny, if anything he is annoying. That fat guy is a disgusting bearded and unfunny loser. He is no John Candy and he is no John Belushi. It’s always the arrogant losers who are the hypocrites trashing others, because he’s afraid of his own shadow. That director is such a tool for letting this happen. I would bet that director’s soul that that fat boy has done worse things than yell on a phone. Also, anyone who says they haven’t said stupid things and yelled is a liar and that includes you who is reading this. Whoopi and Glover have said Gibson is not a racist. Get over it and don’t listen to some fat nobody who is not even a star. People told me that they would have watched the Hangover 2 in theaters if Gibson had been in it. Now they are waiting for it on cable. Liam Neeson is a great actor though.
Wow… you should totally write a film for Mel, you have his voice down!
Touché @BR.
Total agreement with everything you said.BTD
I totally agree. I didn’t think much of the first one but I would have gone to see it with Mel Gibson. He would have been very funny. It would have made more money with him in it. Cast and crew?… Why are they on set in the first place? Why are you making movies in the first place? Isn’t it to entertain?
That “fat guy” is someone pretty much everyone in hollywood wants to work with. He’s also hilarious and although he may have lost the “mel gibson is my hero because I’m a bigot too” fan base, he has plenty of fans and will be just fine.
who? sorry, when the controversy came up, i had to google who this fat person was. then i still said “who?”
if you are serious, you have no business being on this site.
Agree! His name is ZACH GALIFIANAKIS…. and he’s GENIUS!
we’ll see if zach pops…bradley cooper had a swing at bat and whuffed big time
it’s way too early to tell whether zach just got lucky or has staying power…personally he doesn’t blow me away with his very blatant schtick but mass audiences might feel differently
I came on here to comment, but you said it best! Whats-his-name’s ego was probably shot when the HUGE buzz started at TMZ and all the people commenting were soooo excited that Mel was going to do that cameo which ended up overshadowing the actual people “starring” in the movie. HA! Ego, ego, ego.
Wow. You really ought to not slander girl scouts like that.
This comment sounds like something Zach himself would have written. It’s kinda like the time he was with his mom and a kid asked him to pose for a picture. He yelled, “Can’t you see I’m with a prostitute?!”
That said, had Zach written the comment, it would have included a joke of some kind.
Good for Zach for taking a stand about a virulent anti-Semitic sexist racist douchebag. Zach’s uncle was defeated in a North Carolina senate by Jesse Helms whose racially-tinged slogan “Jesse Helms: He’s one of us,” implied someone of Greek descent was not as worthy of a seat as a “pure” white person.
If you support a bigot, you support bigotry. Last time I checked, Mike Tyson did his time for his crime. And, last time I checked, Tyson was not in an incredible position of power, where he used his platform to rail against ethnic and religious groups, other races, and women.
So your saying if you rape someone and do time then your better than a racist?? i don’t agree. now i’m not agreeing with what Mel said for what i’m about to post. BUT Racism no matter how you look at it is an opinion so there for it cannot be stated as wrong. nor should you hate or publicly hate and rant at someone who is stating their opinion. the people ( Jews and Blacks.) that Mel has slandered the most have even come out and stated that they believe he is not a racist(Or atleast a couple -one or two- that reside to that race and religion.) and further more the whole ” Blah blah: He’s one of us.” has been used by everyone, which just means that was where that person was born and raised and his blood runs in that neck of the woods. with that being said i enjoy Galifinakis – though i do not think that he MADE the first Hangover cause i love the cast. i also watch Bored To Death only because of him and Ted Danson cause Shwartzemen i think is pretnetious and boring. and for all im concerned someone who calls a person a bigot because they wanted Mel and were against Zack for hangover 2… and who blatantly called an entire state for not backing Galifinakis’ father, bigots… is just as bad as the people who slander people for their opinions as well. P.S Liam Neesan not an awsome pick over Mel but he’ll be funny.
Yet the cast and crew didn’t seem to have any objections having a convicted rapist like Tyson in the last movie…
too right. bunch of hypocrites.
1. Alot of people believe Mike Tyson didn’t commit that crime.
2. Even if he did, he paid for it. He served his debt to society.
3. What Mel’s done (and done and done again) is arguably worse. He hasn’t owned up to it, he’s trying to smear the victim of his crimes (his CHILD’s mother), and he’s on tape offending not just her but MANY groups.
In other words, if Mel had raped a girl and spent a few years in prison…THEN he could be in Hangover 2.
Are you on crack?
So your thesis is that once anyone commits a crime, that one should never, even after going to prison for it, be allowed to move on? But, if someone does commit a crime, and they neither apologize for it or pays any punishment for it, then its okay. I am not sure the other person is on crack. But I am sure you are not making much sense. Well, you are – in that “I am going to protect a conservative because I am a bigot” way.
Ahaa, here it is. I knew it would come out sooner or later by someone…doesn’t matter what Gibson did or didn’t do..the people that are okay with Tyson but not him is because Gibson is a conservative. So transparent. Liberal Hollywood is PATHETIC, HYPOCRITICAL & TWO FACED.
dude it was RAPE do you really have no moral compass? fucking hell get out of Hollywood before you start killing winos for kicks
So when did being racist and sexist become illegal? again not saying i agree with what he said but make sure your arguments have weight to them before you post them and don’t bring in political stuff cause everyone from any wing of politics can be a racist. now if he hit them ( Which has been proven wrong.) but if that IS true and the woman is not covering that up over stupid shit, then that’s a different story…BUT as it stands here is that Mel has not broken any laws except for the DUI’s he got on the side of his rants haha ergo making tyson worse cause he forced himself on someone. and was CONVICTED of it. and im sure Tysen is a hell of a nice guy. i would have drinks with the dude. BUT if you look at the strands of Morality ( Which in some respect is based on Opinions.)but how Morality is written by some Tyson is worse than Mel Gibson. even if Tyson was never convicted… he’s still worse.
he made Satisfaction with Justine Bateman. In my book that’s more unforgivable than a drunken racist rant.
Incorrect. Neeson proved his acting chops when, after Justine Bateman finished an original song that sounded like a German Shepherd’s tonsillectomy, he said, ‘you’re so talented’ with a bewitched, if slightly battered, tone.
Respect.
this is not the first time Neeson replaces Gibson. Gibson was Spielberg’s first choice for Oskar Schindler. It is in the book about Hollywood agents called ‘Mailroom’. hard to believe now, but true!
wow, if Mel Gibson had played Schindler and then insulted the Jewish policeman, then Steven Spielberg would have had to defend Gibson (like Jerry Seinfeld defended Michael Richards).
LAME!
“would bet the directors soul that the fat boy has done worse than yell in a phone.”
Hilarious. Well-played sir or madam.
Ah man thats so bland. Liam Neeson? Who cares.
Mel Gibson in the role of the tattoo guy would have been hilarious!! All his negative press as of late makes that casting choice genius. I’m a fan of Liam Neeson, but not as a consolation casting.
Since when did the cast and crew dictate casting? Just another is a series of spreading cancers consuming Hollywood.
Wonder if Galifanakis made such a fuss when he had to act opposite Mike Tyson, an actual convicted felon and rapist. Guess not…
You really can’t blame the crew. There is something seriously wrong with Mel Gibson – you know, just plain icky. But he is (or was) a major talent and Liam Neeson is a snoozer.
If not Mel it should be Lindsay Lohan. At least.
Liam a snoozer?
Guess you missed that little father-daughter adventure drama called “Taken” — a $100 million-plus box office SMASH that was Liam’s star vehicle — and pretty much his alone. He knocked it out of AT&T Park and splashed it into McCovey’s Cove (Oh, yeah — I’m a SF Giants fan…Go Giants!!!)
To call Mr. Neeson a snoozer mandates I call you a numbskull. Sure, there are other choices that would have been, well, more inspired — Jeff Bridges? Steve Buscemi? Kimbo Slice? Bruce Willis? Verne Troyer? The Pee Wee Herman dude — but don’t diss Liam, a talented actor, because he was selected as the consolation prize.
I think you’re confusing “Has had his own star vehicle before” with “Is interesting to watch”. Liam Neeson is a well-qualified and accomplished actor, but he is also boring as hell, I’m sorry.
I lik ehow you pick Taken and not Schindler’s list, Batman Begins or even ( As short lived) Gangs of New York to set up your argument. money doesnt mean an actor or actress is good. just because the movie makes a lot of money. there are things taht make upwards of 50 million opening weekend taht suck. 100 million movies?? they usually are good…. did it really make that much…145 million. nice. but other movies that sucked that made more or about the same… the new star wars, the shreck mmovies(Cept the first one.) transformers 2. batman and robin. alice and wonderland and ( i know i’ll get heat for this.) the mother of all shitty movies that made a shitload-AVATAR.(Though the visuals were awsome. the movie, the acting, the writing and the characters were stupid, un-original and boring. seen it before. but it looked pretty doesn’t mean it was good.) saying that i loved Taken though his acting is not great in that movie… i love liam Neesan. and SF Giants can suck big steriod shot dick…
liam neeson. bland white bread. can we say a-team anyone? he should’ve been replaced with sandra bullock or bruce willis –or anyone else.
But… Liam Neeson isn’t funny…
My hat is off to Zach and the others who complained and got Mel kicked to the curb. Not everyone tolerates abuse and violence toward women, even if Todd Phillips gets off on it.
So Mike Tyson raping Miss America, physically abusing Robin Givins, etc etc is not abuse and violence towards women???? What about biting Holyfields ear off??? Where was that fat actor then? He’s a hypocrite and most likely didn’t care about the Gibson scandal, but pissed that Mel’s cameo was taking the spotlight away from his fat ass.
I bet you also think what Alec Baldwin did to his little girl over the phone wasn’t bad either, but Mels the bad guy??
GMAFB
Wan’t Tyson found guilty of those exact things?
@MAC4ever
Yeah, with the difference being Tyson appears to have learned from his past and seems to have changed for the better. Mel Gibson seems to be the opposite. How many chances is Hollywood going to give Mel Gibson for him to just squander it away with another racist tirade? I saw enough. Until Mel ca get some control of his life and learn from his mistakes nobody is going to want to work with him. I say good for the cast for voicing their opinions, I can imagine working with Mel at this time would have been extremely awkward.
Not really cause isn’t that what acting is all about? top notch actors still do movies with Roman polanski. again this all opinion, stop putting it off as fact. … ps mel is a dickhead but he didnt rape women
I watched one movie Hangover with this unknown fat unfunny slob Galifanakis. I didn’t know who he was when I downloaded the film, and I have little interest in what he does next.
I have paid to see Mel Gibson star in dozens of movies, and I have gone to theaters on opening day for the last three films he has directed, Braveheart, Passion, and Apocalypto.
I don’t know one person who has not yelled in the phone fighting with a loved one. I also know that everyone EVERYONE has racist thoughts.
Hollywood is so hypocritical. If nothing else Gibson should have carte blanche to direct anything he wants. He is a great storyteller.
“I also know that everyone EVERYONE has racist thoughts.”
Unless you can read minds, that statement is quite ridiculous. Just because you’re racist, it doesn’t mean everyone else is too.
If you think Zach G is scared of anything, you’re pretty clueless. You might hate him, but he’s got courage in his convictions.
If a non-celebrity is a idiot in their personal life, as long as they are professional in the workplace, their co-workers do not get a say about whether or not they will work with that individual. If a bus driver ranted at his wife, would he be blacklisted and prevented from earning a living? Doubtful.
I don’t approve of Mel Gibson’s expressed attitudes toward women and Jews, but I think the producers should not let these yahoos decide cast and crew decisions when they are not based on anything that has occurred in the workplace.
Someone will probably whine that just knowing what Mel has said will affect the mood and the creative energy on the set… Nonsense! It only does that if you want it to and you let it, which is unprofessional on your part.
Work with idiots is an every day fact of life.
Be a professional. Making a movie is a job… Unless you contract says you have input over casting decisions, Suck it up and do the job!
“If a bus driver ranted at his wife, would he be blacklisted and prevented from earning a living? Doubtful.”
Let’s make a bet. You disseminate tapes of yourself going on abusive, racist tirades towards your wife. If you don’t get fired, I’ll buy you a beer.
+ 1,000,000 WCJ. Well put!
It’s so funny. All of these white knights rushing to defend Mr.Gibson for his egregious neurological and oratorical lapses would be calling for Mr. Gibson’s head if he were not one of the good ol boys (translation: a white Christian dude).
Make him a black guy or Latino or Asian and he’d be lucky to have a career at all anymore.
And to all you numbskulls who bring up Tyson…. Mr Tyson did the crime (debatable) but he did, indeed, do the time time (no debate there) — and appears contrite and a better person for it. I, for one, believe that people who go to prison and are released should get a shot at a normal life provided, that is, they aren’t a sex offender. Then they SHOULD BE monitored and kept tabs on!
And where is Mel’s contrition? Where is his apologia that doesn’t come from the office of his lawyer or publicity manager?
The guy’s got major douche-baggery issues going on.
This is great news. Gibson was trying to get back into Hollywood and the world’s good graces by bypassing an apology or any act of contrition. It backfired. He doesn’t deserve to be let off the hook. He is a vile bigot and has proved that over and over.
we will work with rapists but not Mel. typical Hollywood
Funny how liberals whine about the horrors of blacklisting yet take part in it every chance they get.
the new McCarthyism is making a movie that upsets gays or Jews…Jews have been after Mel’s scalp since Passion, this isn’t new
guys when you show such little restraint in kicking a man who is down, you just ensure that when it’s your turn the heel is going to go full bore into your face…hope you enjoy it when you get what’s coming to you
Is it confirmed that Galifianakis was mad about Mel Gibson being in the movie? Because perhaps most of the cast and crew didn’t want Mel but Galifianakis fought to have him, which would frustrate him.
Just throwing that out there.
