UPDATE: Here’s some Paramount-provided propaganda. Above is the mob scene outside LA’s Cinerama Dome as the film’s Oren Peli and Katie Featherston hang with the crowds waiting for tonight’s free midnight sneak previews of Paranormal Activity 2. Below is the really stranger scene outside NYC’s Loews 34th Street. (What’s with the white hooded robes?) The pic opens wide at midnight Thursday then goes up against Lionsgate’s Saw 3D over Halloween weekend:
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

There is a huge line outside the Arclight Hollywood tonight. It looks like the premiere.
Why is the KKK allowed out in public?
Its amazing what people will endure for a Free Ticket
None of these people paid to see this movie. There are lines for every pre-release promo screening. Why do we have to pretend this is something unusual/exciting?
PS: Clues this might not be a real paying audience include the matching ponchos & one-sheets
I don’t feel like the reviews have been as good for this one.
Also, why are they all dressed alike?
From Psycho and The Exorcist to Paranormal Activity 2.
How far we’ve come.
Not to be a cynic, but doesnt this shot reek of paid marketing? The poncho’s,the posters, the smiling faces…it all looks staged. At the very least I have to believe these folks are getting in for free….no one who saw the first movie could possibly be that excited about standing in line in the rain and paying actual money to see the sequel.
paramount propaganda.
I call for a caption contest, Nikki.
Wow they all bought the same poster. What are the odds?
EPIC FAIL.
This movie will be lucky to hit 25 million this weekend. I am saying Jackass 3D will stay at the top spot with 25 to 26 million then PA2 with about 21 to 23. Then next weekend it won’t even be a contest with PA2 vs SAW 3D. Horror movies always fall big in their second weekend and so will PA2. PA2 will be lucky to make 10 while SAW 3D will easily pass 30 million of the weekend.
p2 will be lucky to make 15m
Dave remind me to promote you to manager at next staff meeting.
Why are they all dressed the same? The same employer — Paramount?
Yep. This was a promo screening, not a real paying audience. Tickets were given away by the studio.
Right on. Paramount knows they need to do good business the first weekend because they’ve had such problems with this film. I can name half a dozen great horror filmmakers that were brought in recently to look at it, offer suggestions to help FIX the hot mess of a film. Yikes. The prognosis is grim.
It rained late last night in New York City when the screening was held. Did you consider that the Paramount folks decided that in order to ensure people didn’t leave the line they gave them free swag that included a one size fits all rain poncho that everyone is clearly wearing?
Why do I get the feeling that these people were hired to do this? This is fabricated “buzz”. I can smell it a mile away. No one is this jacked up to see this movie. Puhleeeze!
At first glance it looks like a Klan meeting
what’s with the klan outfits?
One review called it “The Godfather Part 2 of the Found Footage genre…” and Twitter seems to be reacting favorably. Could it be the sequel actually delivers?
I liked part 1 solely for the mood created and what they accomplished with the budget they had. But it wasn’t scary. I had more fun watching the reactions of my friends who aren’t as desensitized as me. I’ll be there for part 2 with my friends this weekend.
Wow. Godfather II? My goodness! Sky high praise indeed.
Please let us know what you think afterwards. I made the great decision (mistake?) to first see the film on my computer via iTunes. On my lap, inches from my face, the film scared the you-know-what outta me! Super terrifying, super fun! I’m looking forward to seeing this on the large screen this time around. I also thought the acting was phenomenal. They behaved exactly like a couple and apparently barely met before shooting. Well done.
*Just Laughs*
A Ku Klux Klan must see.
LOL! Exactly what I was thinking – not having any experience with the movie I wondered why these people are dressed up like Klansmen!
This looks like a free screening with swag, posters and studio donated tickets.
The reason there are lines is because these are free screenings. People will line up for anything free.
apparently, it’s going to be HUGE within the hispanics wearing raincoats demographic.
Nice.
this looks staged
Man, I just hope the German Shepherd is okay.
German Shepherds, they always get killed in the horror movies.
And props to Peli and Featherstone for giving Respect to the kids at the ‘Dome.
I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st film, it was creative and intriguing, but I get the feeling that the 2nd film is basically going to be the same thing, just in a different wrapper.
I can see it being legit. The first one was quite an accomplishment, and let’s face it. These people don’t have jobs. What’s unemployment? 15% in NY and LA?
LOL. I can help to explain the white hooded crowd. Those look like ponchos to me.
The white robes are called ponchos, people wear them when it rains.
