Luke Evans has been set to star alongside John Cusack in The Raven, the drama that will be directed by V for Vendetta’s James McTeigue. Production starts later this year in Eastern Europe. Cusack plays Edgar Allan Poe in stylized revisionist take of the last week of the poet’s life, written by Hannah Shakespeare and Ben Livingston. Evans will play a detective who teams with the poet to track down a serial killer who’s kidnapped Poe’s fiancée. I’m hearing Alice Eve is likely to play the female lead.
Evans is an up and comer who played Apollo in Clash of the Titans, plays Zeus in the upcoming Tarsem-directed The Immortals, and is in production playing Aramis in the Paul WS Anderson-directed 3D The Three Musketeers. Evans also stars in the Stephen Frears-directed Tamara Drewe. The coproduction between Intrepid and FilmNation will be produced by Trevor Macy, Marc D. Evans and Aaron Ryder. CAA will broker a domestic distribution deal shortly, with FilmNation’s Glen Basner selling foreign. The picture shapes up as an under $35 million film meant for wide distribution, which has become a sweet spot for independent distributors.

From the first time we saw this guy’s audition we’ve always said he had the makings of a star. Go get ‘em Luke.
LOL. That’s all I can say to this project. I mean, seriously… Poe’s fiancee? Days before his death? LAME. This screams of desperation. Knowing McTiegue, he’s never even read Poe as the execs on this project probably have no idea who the famed poet is.
I am rewriting history and making Freud President. Cocaine for everyone. And vampires. Yes. And maybe a Better Off Dead sequel.
Why the “lol” Captain Awesome?
The Raven is supposedly inspired by Sarah Royster,
Poe’s childhood love. Her father broke them up.
She married someone else, as did Poe.
They connected later in life and were supposedly engaged when he died.
John Cusack is an extremely odd casting choice for Poe.
Then again, everyone else in town passed on the material.
Did they? I heard there were four A listers vying for part. Who passed and why? Is this true, dying to know. And why? It seems like a star vehicle. Who is Luke Evans?
Captain Awesome. Now there’s an oxymoron. Wait, i mean just moron. Write something intelligent or shut your pie hole. This project sounds cool.
This kid Luke is awesome…Very talented new comer. Saw his audition for some smaller indie a year ago. He’s a huge find. George Freeman picks them well.
I didn’t hear that much about that actor but looking to read and watching the movies of him then come to the market place.
How many times is this guy’s agent going to post?
I know Luke, we actually did a parody film together. He is a great guy and deserving of his success. Congrats!
