One of the benefits of shooting a movie in Manhattan is getting access to the town’s stage talent. Matthew Broderick has been set by director Brett Ratner to join the cast of Tower Heist. He joins Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Alan Alda, Tea Leoni, Gabourey Sidibe and Michael Pena in the Universal comedy. Broderick will play Chase Fitzhugh, a Wall Street guy who, like the building staff, had his finances cleaned out by the Bernie Madoff-like character played by Alda, who is under house arrest in the luxury penthouse apartment atop the building. Brian Grazer is producing and Karen Kehela Sherwood and Kim Roth are exec producers. Jeff Nathanson is rewriting Ted Griffin’s draft.

SO glad to see Broderick back on the big screen. I know he loves Broadway, but we need you in the movies Matthew!
Agreed. Sounds like a great storyline with a great cast. We could use another great comedy.
Why is Griffin’s draft being rewritten?
The draft is tremendous.
It got the project cast and greenlit.
Maybe the problem is Brian Grazer, Roth, Sherwood don’t know how to give notes to a writer.
Still.
Seems to be a problem on most Imagine projects these days.
Or they believe more writers make it so much better.
It is why their scripts have been wanting over there.
Surprised they didn’t give it to the flavor of the year(s) Alan Loeb to rewrite.
CAA says he’s really, really good.
He discovered how to make fire.
Imagine does not like or respect writers.
In my opinion.
It’s being rewritten because it isn’t funny. It has great comedic potential due to a solid concept and some great characters but there’s a long portion where it just drags, nothing really happens and it’s very boring. Nathanson will take care of it.
I agree with the Manager. Why couldn’t Imagine give notes to the original writer and explain what they wanted? The point is Imagine continually likes to reduce the impact of the writer by claiming the script is broken and they must rescue it with a new writer.
What about the boring parts of Ron Howard movies? Is Judd Apatow brought in to redirect him? No just blame the script again.
Amazing how the banal work of that company is always blamed in the writer.
This is great news. While anything with Murphy and lately, Ben Stiller, makes my skin crawl, I will endure in order to see Broderick and Alan Alda.
Wow. Sounds like a pile of terd. The worse the script the more they try and pile on the distractions. Think about it. Few ensemble heist films work. Ocean’s 13 anyone. Bad bad bad writing. Hurry up, hide the writing add some more actors. Hahahaha.
Choo.
Okay I read the script I am friends with ONE of the big name leads (wont mention who) but the script is NOT FUNNY. At all. Literally they need to re-do the entire film b/c as it stood it STANK. The original idea was better when it was an all black Ocean’s 11-ish type of vibe and was supposed to have:
Chris Tucker
Dave Chappelle
Eddie Murphy
Chris Rock
Martin Lawrence
All going up against THE DONALD (hence, the original TRUMP HEIST) title.
The new script sucks major donkey balls. So much so, that my “friend” doesn’t even care to do the film outside of the hefty and quick paycheck he’s going to cash in on. I’m sorry but PRECIOUS? Seriously you have to look at the stunt casting and realize that they are trying to cover up for their lack of story/and serious lack of FUNNY.
The further they get away from the original, the less impact it has, the cast doesn’t work, and Brett Ratner is the death to any film that he’s directing.
Mark my words: TOWER HEIST will be a TOWER OF SH#T. come nov.2011. Dont be surprised if it gets pushed back
