EXCLUSIVE: Medium cheated death once in 2009 when CBS rescued it after its cancellation by NBC. But the ghost crime drama might now be coming to an end after a respectable 7-season run on two networks. CBS today cut the order to the series starring Patricia Arquette to 13 episodes. While it has not been cancelled as CBS is keeping its options open, its chances for renewal are considered slim. In a similar fashion, CBS last year cut the order to Friday drama Numbers before canceling it in May. The CBS TV Studios-produced Medium, which has made a lot of money for CBS through its syndication deal with Lifetime, has been the lowest-rated series on CBS this fall following its move from 9 PM to 8 PM on Friday (though it inched up in the ratings last week). With CBS recently picking up all 5 of its freshman series, it had to open up some shelf space for the 3 more series it has ordered for midseason, dramas Chaos and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and comedy Mad Love. After fulfilling Medium’s 13-episode order, creator and showrunner Glenn Gordon Caron, who is very well liked within CBS, will focus on development for CBS TV Studios where he is under an overall deal.

I love this show. Really love it. Why don’t people realize that when a show is moved from one time slot to another, the numbers will take a while to get to what they should be?
nooooooooooooo
I agree, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I still can’t believe CBS kept Medium and cancelled Ghost Whisperer.
Why not? Ghost Whisperer was the poor man’s Medium.
I know I can’t believe that either
I absolutely love Medium. I didn’t care that they changed it to CBS, as long as it was still on. It would be a shame if they took it off all together. There are so many directions they could take the show. Please, CBS, KEEP MEDIUM ON THE AIR.
When I first heard that the show maybe cancelled I was shocked. It really has so many amazing actors in the show and story line. The quality of shows are rare these days and to have this show on makes the enjoyment of watching what little is on worthwhile. I am glad to sit down and take some time out for myself and watch this show. If I had my way I would want to see it on for many many years to come.
I couldn’t have said it better myself
I love this series too. It would be more acceptable if they will shoot for another season of Medium and more ghost stories to reveal.
this show feels very 1990s. Bye bye.
OH NO!!! Not my Joe Dubois.
The best husband in television.
Noooo, now I will only watch DVDs no more live tv for me
only sorrow
Respectable? 7 years puts it at the very top of shows ever produced. I’ve never seen a single episode and it always looked pretty dumb to me, but we should all be so lucky as to have “respectable” 7 year runs. A lot of people made a lot of money off of this.
This show is so lame. Every episode feels the same.
They should have subtitles on screen whenever Patricia Arquette is speaking or should I say mumbling.
From the episodes I bothered to watch I’d say she was sleepwalking. The true injustice is that Medium lasted longer than Without A Trace, Cold Case, Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs.
The First 4 seasons of Medium were very good and innovative. I’m not a big network TV fan but I became a very dedicated fan of medium because of its amazingly clever writing in the earlier seasons.
The show has changed alot over years though. Now it is definitely lame. The plots are very repetitive and predictable. I hate the lame music that the plug into every episode now. The actors don’t have anything good to do. The show is NOTHING like it was when it first started. Which is sad because new viewers don’t get to properly appreciate what brilliant talent is a part of this show.
“Medium” started very strongly, that first season was thrilling. The characters felt real, the stories were strong, the crimes were harsh… It very well-done.
Then the show got delirious and shed a lot of viewers.
It was strictly a story-telling issue, the writing got sloppy and lazy. I mean, if the writers/show runner don’t care about the story/characters, why should I?
And the “reboot” is more than a little confusing.
I HATE THIS!! I LOVE this show and have watched it from day one. Even though we know all good things must come to an end, I still hate that this day has come too soon for this show. It’s consistently excellent in both acting and storytelling and I will miss it terribly. Although I wish that we could get another season out of it, I have a feeling that this is the end. Glenn Gordon Caron and Co. have done an excellent job for seven years and for that, they deserve kudos. Great job, guys. I’ll miss you.
Sorry to MEDIUM! But if you’re looking for a replacement, CBS, I would like to see Ted Danson return to the role of James Van Praagh in a series.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOT AGAIN!!
I LOVE THIS SHOW! Is Les Moonves doing this because his wife’s show The Talk, is going well???
This is one of the better shows left untouched by the idiot hands and fingers. SAY IT’S NOT SO!
Time to get out the SAVE ALLISON DuBOIS signs!!!
I choose not to believe a show that has the a great cast of characters and endless story lines, will be cancelled. Optimistically speaking, I believe CBS will come to their senses. Long live Patricia Arquette and Medium
this show will make a mint in syndication
Had no idea Medium was still on…
This show is amazing and just not understood by the masses. It’s like Arrested Development and Pushing Dasies..not for the low brow class. Not like Law and Order or CSI:stuff that made people feel smart by figuring out who done it in the first 5 minutes and bland with mass appeal
You can always figure out who the killer is on MEDIUM, too.
It’s always the character wearing a little gold cross around her neck.
Watch a few episodes, it’s like clockwork.
Good riddance. Should have been canned years ago. At least Ghost Whisperer had JLH as eye candy.
I guess Camille Grammer will have to “discover” Patricia Arquette for another show. Maybe Real Housewives of Psychic Club MTV? NBC will buy it.
At least hte sadistic Glenn Caron can move on to finding new people to torture with his arbitrary and capricious management “style”.
Patricia Arquette deserves better than this. She’s a great actress and I just hope one day she gets the role that gives her the recognition she deserves.
You do realize she’s won an Emmy for this show and been nominated for several Golden Globes and SAG awards, right?
This makes me sad. I enjoy this show a great deal. It’s just a bit different from most drama’s on TV these days.
Quality show, quality writting, quality acting, this type of show already proven..
The sad thing is moving time slots and losing an audience momemtum because of switching things should not be the decsion on pulling the plug on a successful show that has already shown it’s
longevity…..Your most successful shows are set in a time slot that people have set
in there minds, channel changers, & tivos etc… Long LIVE MEDIUM !
This is horrible news. Medium is a fantastic show. I will miss Maria Lark as Bridget most of all. She is excellent. Saying Patricia Arquette “sleepwalked” through the show is insane. I do hope this isn’t the end.
What a shame that in one of their last episodes then, they slandered someone. In an otherwise excellent episode a week ago, they showed a character, meant to be Sheriff Joe Arpario, of Maricopa Country (the county where Phoenix is located)as a rapist/killer.
It really was a smear or someone, based upon the producer and writers dislike of this man.
While no huge fan of the sheriff, with the exception of his stand against illegal immigration, to take a cheap shot of this level, I found deplorable.
Sad to go out with so little class.
I’m going to really miss Medium. I didn’t start watching it until it followed Ghost Whisperer on Friday nights but now, I hate to miss even one show. By the way, Friday nights are just not the same without Ghost Whisperer. Now, THAT was a great show! It had it all: mystery, romance, comedy, and drama. It’s really too bad it was cancelled. It still has lots of fans.
It’s been on the air for a very long time. As for the people who whining that it didn’t get a chance… hey, CBS is the network that took the show after NBC cancelled it. It aired for last season and this season on CBS when it otherwise would have been over. Try showing some gratitude instead of acting like entitled little babies.
