UPDATE: Paramount now telling me that Anil Kapoor is negotiating to play a “integral supporting role” that is being kept under wraps, but they say he’s not a villain, despite what my sources say. Guess we’ll see.
EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures is spanning the globe for its Mission: Impossible villains. Slumdog Millionaire’s Anil Kapoor has been cast as a major heavy in the Brad Bird-directed film. He joins Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Michael Nykvist, previously cast as a villain, and reports have French actress Lea Seydoux in the nemesis lineup. Tom Cruise stars with Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg. Kapoor followed up his Slumdog turn with the final season of the Fox series 24. Cruise and JJ Abrams hatched the film’s idea and are producing together. Kapoor is repped by ICM.

I am disappointed that Tom Cruise’s hair isn’t short like it was in the first and third films in the series.
The cast is lacking more female characters and young male characters.
It has been reported that Tom Cruise and Michael Nyqvist have an epic 5 page fight sequence at the end of the film. I hope that Tom Cruise uses a few KFM (Keysi Fighting Method) moves like he did in M:i:III.
I wish that they would film this in Armenia as well. Hollywood never does films there. In addition, It would be good if the plot is based on current affairs and the IMF battles a real world threat such as Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Iranian or North Korean extremists, Somali pirates, etc.
It would be good if they include Henry Czerny, Thandie Newton, Anthony Hopkins, John Polson, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Maggie Q and Laurence Fishburne and hopefully conclude the series.
I hope that the main villain’s name will be Vanning which was originally going to be the name of the main villain in M:i:III before they changed it to Owen Davian.
I hope that Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts appear in M:i:IV as I’ve always wanted to see Tom Cruise do a movie with each of them.
Just the name “Brad Bird” gives me the reassurance that this film will be good. I hope it surprises everyone who hates Cruise now.
MI:3 was my favorite one because I disliked 1 and 2 and only showed up to 3 out of my fan loyalty to JJ Abrams. It is an underrated action movie. Hopefully 4 improves on 3 and knocks it out of the park.
Wow…what a great cast…
Disappointed that J.J. isn’t coming back to direct. Also disappointed that the team from MI:3 isn’t coming back (Maggie Q, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers). Brad Bird, we shall see as he’s only done animated stuff so far. But the good news is he can storyboard all his own stuff. Hopefully this will conclude the series.
How many different ways can you tell the same story? Special op guy organizes team to go somewhere. Girl is in trouble. Tom saves the day with a 20min foot race to car chase, hand2hand combat sequence. End of story. On to MI5. Repeat.
Wow. Anil Kapoor needs to head back to Bollywod where he belongs. He was the worst part of Slumdog and absolutely terrible on 24. (The man can’t act and his Indian accent kept anyone from believing he was Middle Eastern) Go home, Anil. Just because you’re repped by JB doesn’t mean you belong in Hollywood.
Anil kapoor is the best thing to happen in 24…..and he was superb in slumdog millionaire too…in nutshell a phenomenal actor.
He was fantastic on 24 last season. Great actor.
THIS IS GREAT NEWS!! He is such an amazing actor!! He did a stupendous performance on Slumdog and 24. MI fans– we’re in for a treat!!
What would be Anil Kapoor portray in MI:4? Tom does great in MI:3 and it’s good to see Anil portraying new character.
Good for Anil.. Truth is that India has many gifted actors that have yet to crack into Mainstream U.S. Homes. This is a gret move for Paramount considering the B.O. they will get from India for adding Anil.
So adding Anil will give M:14 the box office that Tom Cruise won’t be able to bring in India or the USA.
Many of those gifted actors that have yet to crack into mainstream US homes made it in Bollywood via nepotism. Some don’t deserve to be on our screens when Bollywood’s closed system is still around and “fair skinned” actors are valued the most.
His character on 24 wasn’t supposed to be middle-eastern. He was the leader of a fictional south Asian country.
Excellent work in 24
He did justice to OMAR HASSAN’s character
Looking forward to MI_4
Wish you all the best…
