UPDATE: Here is what Shawn Ryan just said about the name change of his new Fox series: ”Changing the title from Ride-Along to THE CHICAGO CODE reflects our belief that this is more than just a cop show. It’s not just about the police, but also politics, the Midwest, history, Government corruption and the city’s code. Plus adding ‘Chicago’ to anything is always a good idea.”
PREVIOUS: Shawn Ryan’s new Chicago-based cop drama for Fox, Ride-Along, has been renamed. It will now be known as The Chicago Code. The change was made to better reflect the the importance of the show’s Chicago setting. … Meanwhile, ABC has ordered 5 more scripts from the Shonda Rhimes-produced upcoming ABC drama Off The Map. That’s in addition to the extra script ABC picked up two weeks ago, bringing the total order to 6 additional scripts. Nice vote of confidence for the medical drama created by Jenna Bans.

What type of name is this crap? HUH?
Ride-Along is a great title.
The Chicago Code is a terrible one.
WTF is FOX thinking?
Fox thinking!
You’re joking aren’t you?
It’s bad enough that they cast Jennifer Beals as Chicago’s chief of police. Chicago doesn’t even have a chief of police, the boss is the superintendent of police.
I thought that was a weird error to make. So I looked it up. Wikipedia could be wrong, but the “chief” position is fourth in line below the superintendent.
Sigh. All that misplaced anger. You must be a real charmer.
From the Hitfix review of the show (emphasis mine):
“Jennifer Beals plays Teresa Colvin, the first female SUPERINTENDENT in the history of the Chicago PD.”
Must feel weird, pulling “chief” out of your ass, acting all offended about it, then realizing that you look like a chump.
Then again you’re probably used to the feeling, huh?
“Fox thinking! You’re joking aren’t you? It’s bad enough that they cast Hugh Jackman as America’s emperor. America doesn’t even have an emperor, the boss is the president.”
LOL! LMMFAO! You’re a real gem, chief!
So somebody at Fox is hitting the panic button on Ride-A-Long…
Which focus group came up with this?
Fox and Ryan should be working on a feature length film based on The Shield. Vic Mackey needs to redeem himself and get Ronnie out of jail!
And it’s a bad idea for Ryan to be doing a cop show. He did a great one, move on to another subject.
I’m psyched to see Ride-along, whatever the title. Meanwhile I saw the “Off the Map” pilot and it is embarrassing — cliches up the vajayjay, horrible acting and writing — Shonda Rhimes should be ashamed of herself. Feels like she’s knowingly churning out crap just hoping to rake in more dough. Guess you can’t blame her, but if you were that rich and successful wouldn’t you try for your passion project, instead of some trite medical crap that is a lame copy of your other stuff? Sigh. Hollywood.
I’d rather watch Off the Map than the Chicago Crap. Should have left it as Ride-along. Much better title.
Great title. I know instantly that it has to do with crime. And it sticks. Congrats, great improvement on the title.
“And it’s a bad idea for Ryan to be doing a cop show. He did a great one, move on to another subject.”
Sure, why should anyone keep doing what they’re good at? Of course, if they do something different ten years in, they’re being told that they should stick to doing what they’re good at.
Off The Map is horrendous. Shame on ABC.
Ride-along is a great title. The Chicago Code is a total stinker.
The new name is terrible. I see the point but if they had spent a few more hours/bucks, they could have come up with something better than “The Chicago Code.” And Greg–don’t hate on Beals yet. She looks good (her acting as well as her appearance) in the promo clips and she’s done some good stuff in the last few years. She was very good in Denzel Washington’s Book of Eli and kicked ass as Bette Porter in the L Word. Besides, Shawn Ryan has the clout to cast anyone he wants and he worked with her on “Lie to Me,” so he must think she’s fine.
Love the title. Seems more mature and serious..
Ride-Along sounded like it was about a Citizens On Patrol community involvement project. The Chicago Code sounds like it is about city politics, perhaps police corruption.
I hate to hear they are cancelling Chicago Code….why can’t they cancel some of the reality junk. We also loved Undercovers; I can;t remember which network it was on. It was awesome and the two leading charters were great to look at too!
