EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has just learned that Amy Israel is out as EVP of production at New Regency even though she was known to have excellent taste in material. Israel joined New Regency in 2008 after heading up Paramount Vantage production and acquisitions. She’ll now serve as an executive producer on the company’s Now, director Andrew Niccol’s scifi film (aka I’m Mortal) starring Justin Timberlake, Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, and Johnny Galecki. She’s produced before and wanted to get back to her filmmaking roots.

WTF? How could they let her go?
Amy has a good rep for being smart and decent.
So what’s the skinny….anyone?
This sucks for Bedford Falls. I imagine they had a good relationship with her after Defiance and Love and Other Drugs.
Hutch Parker was pushed into that job and has done nothing with it. I am surprised that Arnon isn’t embarrassed enough by him by now.
That’s a huge loss for Regency. Amy is one of the smartest filmmakers in town. Andrew Niccol is lucky to have her on board.
Amy is one of the best PEOPLE, let alone executives, in town. She will find something bigger AND better in no time. Go Amy…you are a rock star!
Amy is a good egg and a smart exec. She’ll land fine. It’s Regency’s loss.
Wow. This is exactly what is wrong with the business today. A truly smart, talented and grounded human being who loves making movies is the one who gets let go? She will eventually find something great but this sort of decision-making should make any exec with a soul and love for good films quake in their boots.
Maybe there’s an EVP of production position at “Le Grisbi Productions” under John Lesher?
Loss for Regency, but Amy will land well. Agreed – She’s smart and has good taste – too smart for Regency!
Big loss for New Regency. Huge gain for someone else. Amy is one of the smartest execs in town, and also incredibly kind and decent.
Amy Israel is one of the best and most respected execs in the business. She was too good and too talented to be there in the first place. She will wind up somewhere waaaaaay better I’m sure!
She’s a smart great woman. She’ll move on to something great.
BIG BIG loss for new regency. She was the best thing there.
Let’s be serious, Amy has the appearance of charm, but zero follow-thru & zero commercial instincts. She was involved with Zero movies with box office potential in her stint at Paramount Vantage, and Less than Zero in her run @ Regency…the Niccol’s movie she’s parachuting out of there on holds zero chance of being a Hit.
You’re wrong about Amy since she’s first-rate in every aspect but you’re right about the Niccol film, unless they’ve done serious rewrites. Never read a more contrived script.
Amy’s one of the best, both as an exec (her taste is unparalleled) and a human being. I’m excited to see where she lands. In a town where the bidding war is a thing of the past, I think we’re about to exactly that. New Regency… you might want to get it together.
Amy Israel is one of the BEST execs in town. I hope she is snapped up by a Rudin or Imagine ASAP.
More than likely most of the comments are from the male viewpoint.
The running thread through the comments is she is smart, good lady,
great taste-but she should land on her feet working for some male run production companies. The glass ceiling is still in effect, but should be renamed the cement wall. Why not think of out of the box. Give her a little more respect. Why not raise the bar and your thinking:
Amy Just off the top of my head on a Sunday Morning
1) Call the Chinese Financial Institutions that are investing in Hollywood
2) seek additional funding and advice by taking meetings with a respectable hedge fund for financial advice with woman in charge or in power positions
3) Call Mary Parent
4) Name the company “Parent and Israel Productions aka “PIP”
5_ Shake it up a little…you “guys”_would be great amd enjoyable to follow your success.
Bummer. Amy was one of the good ones.
Wow. Loss for NRegency. She’s very smart and works her ass off. But smart to leave a slightly toxic place. Does Arnon know about this? He likes her.
great person, sincerely nice, but no follow-thru
Agree. Friendly but where are the hits and what’s with the unreturned calls? She is very nice. There is some mild value in that.
What part of “head of production and acquisitions for Paramount Vantage” did you guys not get? THERE WILL BE BLOOD, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, INTO THE WILD, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH. As head of acquisitions at Miramax, even, she was responsible for picking up films like LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, THE OTHERS, etc. Do your research, it’s all out there. If you expected a hit in the last few years, maybe not, but then New Regency is New Regency….
