Director Christopher Nolan revealed the film’s name in an interview in the Los Angeles Times. Nolan also said that the Riddler won’t be the villain and he also said that Warner Bros had agreed with his stance that the film should not be in 3D, instead using the high-definition and IMAX approach.

Hooray for no awful 3D! Is the bubble finally bursting?
Let’s all hope it has!!!
Terrible title. Nolan sucks.
No, he doesn’t!
Okay, it’s not the greatest title in the world. But it doesn’t really matter. People will see this movie no matter what the title is.
You’re a court jester.
The title makes sense if you understand what The Dark Knight was about.
You Suck.
YAY! No 3D!!!!
Rises…Mmmmmm…I wonder if Ra’s Al Ghul is making a comeback?
AMEN! Save 3D for the novelty films that can’t be hyped any other way…
DEATH TO 3D!!!
That is one clunky title, but I’m thrilled there’s no 3-D.
I dig this title. I thought that it would be “The Dark Knight Returns”, but given the nature of the previous films, this makes sense. A movie in which Gotham finally accepts Batman as their hero and savior instead of a freak. No Riddler and no 3-D is also a good sign.
I agree… it seemed like a no brainer for the title to be “The Dark Knight Returns”.
I disagree about not having the Riddler is either good or bad. They could have made him a killer like the Zodiac, who frames Batman for numerous crimes, which forces him to come out from hiding and track him down.
Anyone who think Nolan sucks is a moron, he may not be everyone’s favorite; but to say he’s no good shows you have no clue what quality filmmaking is. Batmans, Memento, Inception all great flicks, even enjoyed Prestige (despite Scarlett Johanssen)
Could this be a terrible chapter to the wonderful franchise? With a name like that I’m thinking yes.. Was expecting something like “Gotham” or “Gotham rises”
The Caped Crusader
Rolls eyes
Oh yeah, because a title is what makes a movie good or not. You’re all a bunch of idiots.
The title is very appropriate, from Batman Begin(ning), to The Dark Knight, to the Dark Knight RisING, this is a perfect title for a final film in a perfect trilogy.
awful tittle. no Joseph in the movie? sucks ;(
Well, don’t get your hopes lowered. Just because The Riddler isn’t the villain, that doesn’t mean Levitt won’t be cast in some capacity. Of course, even if the film was set to include The Riddler, his casting wasn’t a foregone conclusion anyway.
What Nolan wants, Nolan gets – and rightly so. This guy is the best visionary/director I’ve seen or worked with, as well as his D.P. Consistent, professional, respectful, fearless. And did I mention “visionary”?
Kudos to both Chris and Wally!
You are 100% right. My thoughts exactly, especially regarding his D.P. He’s one of the best in the business.
Bravo to Nolan and Warners execs for sticking to one’s guns and avoiding the 3D craze. And re: the title, as a great man once said, “Sell it; don’t smell it.”
Can we all stop hyperventilating? Last time everyone freaked out when “TDK” was announced as the title. Everyone freaked out when Ledger was announced as the Joker. Everyone freaked out when they filmed in Hong Kong. Chill. I think Nolan has earned a little trust. Just wait to see the final product before we decide its a colossal success or failure. Chill!
That is so NOT how the internet works, yo! The rule is that you take the slightest bit of information and completely freak out about it and rant and rave for days about it to anyone who will listen. I mean sheesh, who wants to see the movie anyway, everyone just wants to snark the shit out of it.
bleh, none of you are real movie fans. All you do it login to anonymously tell people why you aren’t going to see it and it sucks. Fucking losers. I see everything, good bad and in-between because I love movies! The rest of you are armchair marketers wallowing in your own filth.
You people are so ridiculous! You cannot judge an entire film on it’s title/name! That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
As far as villians go, if they don’t do “Catwoman” in the Nolan Batman Series i will be so angry and sad!
This character deserves to be brought back to life! She is the most popular Batman character, besides the Caped Crusader himself.
I think there are other characters who might rank higher in popularity than Catwoman – THE JOKER being one of them.
Catwomen would be a great villain. Plus I am thinking that hardy role would be either Deathstroke or Deadshot.
Yeah I don’t know about the title though. It doesn’t resonate with me. But I’ll probably warm to it as the release date looms. It can’t get any worse than ‘Attack of the Clones’.
Hooray for no 3D though. IMAX kicks 3D’s ass any day of the week. Till this day I’ve never heard an audience collectively gasp in awe when the first establishing shot of the office building in TDK unspooled on that 72 × 52.8 ft screen.
I feel the same way about the title. I think the main problem is that the title “The Dark Knight” was just used in the last film. To use it again is unimaginative and redundant.
Hopefully this changes. if not, oh well.
But I am disappointed that the Riddler won’t be in it. He was ripe for a reinvention. I just hope there’s no Catwoman or any shoehorned love interest. Batman shouldn’t have a love interest period. She died in the last film. He can’t go through that again. Nor is it in his character to fall in love thus complicating his mission to rid Gotham of injustice.
I love the part about Warner Bros. agreeing with Nolan that the movie shouldn’t be in 3D. Clearly, Nolan said he didn’t want 3D, and Warner Bros. is in no position to disagree. Nolan’s track record at this point is astonishing. 3D often sucks, but it’s financially stupid not to offer the movie in 3D, particularly for a movie like this. You are guaranteed to make more money. Guaranteed. And not just a little more money. Gobs and gobs and gobs of it. I’m sure Warner Bros. even has projections of what they’d make with 3D. They’re sacrificing tens of millions of dollars. That’s a good indicator of how much power and influence Nolan has right now.
That’s true. “Dark Knight Rises” in 3D = more money than the first one made, possibly even up to 30% more. Shame.
Last time I checked IMAX has about a 30% premium on standard tickets. There are far fewer IMAX screens than screens that can show 3D (even though I personally would never watch 3D on anything smaller than IMAX).
***shakes head***
ok we all have the right of free speech but how can anyone determine the quality of a film years before its complete just by the title???
we wont know until we see it.
“why so serious…?”
***continues shaking head***
Still, can we all agree that a simple tweak, changing it from “The Dark Knight Rises” to “Rise of the Dark Knight”,sounds a lot better?
Don’t mind the title….but if Marion isn’t Catwoman, there’ll be hell to pay.
Why did he pick a name that sucks?
wondering if he’s going to bring back Batman’s Bat SharkRepellent
Actually a good well thought out title often conveys inspiration. This just seems tired and lazy. Does not mean a bad movie per se but it certainly isn’t a good omen.
And the follow up “The Dark Knight Shines”
It was Batman Begins
