EXCLUSIVE: Mehcad Brooks has become the first actor from a cancelled fall series to line up a new pilot gig. Brooks, who had been in demand since the cancellation of ABC’s My Generation, has been tapped to co-star on USA Network’s pilot Necessary Roughness. Meanwhile, Marisa Ramirez, Brandon Quinn and and Chris Johnson have joined Lifetime’s pilot Against the Wall.
Roughness, from Sony TV, centers on tough, sexy Long Island divorcee Danielle Santino (Callie Thorne), who, to make ends meet, becomes the therapist for a professional football team and quickly becomes sought after by other athletes, musicians, politicians and those living in the spotlight. Brooks will play one of her clients: a star wide receiver for the Hawks who has been unable to hold onto the ball recently while regularly getting into trouble with the law. Initially pissed about being forced into counseling with Dani, he winds up bonding closely with her. Brooks, who had a memorable season-long arc on HBO’s True Blood as Eggs, is repped by Innovative and Mosaic.

Against the Wall, from Universal Cable Prods., is a family drama set in Chicago about policewoman Abby Kowalski (Rachael Carpani), who causes a rift with her three cop brothers when she decides to join the department’s Internal Affairs division. Ramirez will play Abby’s new partner at Internal Affairs. Quinn, repped by Authentic Talent, will play Abby’s younger brother Richie, a Chicago Patrol Officer. APA-repped Johnson will play Abby’s longtime friend, a lawyer.

Great, it’s about time Brandon Quinn returned to TV.
Great choice to cast Brandon Quinn!! Can’t wait to see the show!!!
i work on a tv desk at a major agency. against the wall is one of the best dramas i’ve read since i’ve been here -18 months. brandon quinn is perfect for this role. this show has potential to be major hit for lifetime.
You go Brandon!!!
Mehcad Brooks is the real deal. He is gonna be THE MAN in this show. So handsome, intelligent and a wonderful actor.
Talk about to tire premises.
Mehcad Brooks is going to be the next Will Smith!
Don’t be ridiculous. He doesn’t have anywhere near the personality to do anything of the sort. The said the same thing about Nick Cannon seven years ago.
Well, that’s kind of a ridiculous comparison, because Nick Cannon and Mehcad Brooks are nothing alike. Comparing Nick to Will is a much more accurate comparison. He just hasn’t had the roles and opportunities that Will has, and also isn’t strapping enough to play leading man in those big action movies
I agree, the script is fantastic! Way to go Annie Brunner!
Mehcad has totally earned this. He’s had the worst luck with new shows and he deserves to be on a pilot that will help him take off – after seeing him on True Blood, i just want to see him on tv more!
Way to go for Brandon Quinn — been a fan since Big Wolf On Campus — he’s a great talent and I truly hope this works out for him!
So are there no more actual men left in Hollywood?
What is that even supposed to mean? Define “actual” men….
I hated that guy in True Blood. Worst storyline of the entire series and the actor is totally bland.
Keep your eye on Brandon Quinn. This guy can bring it. And Brunner’s script is a gem. I may actually have to start watching Lifetime.
I worked on a short film Brandon Quinn was in a long time ago..really talented and nice guy. Good to see him back on tv.
I really hope these fine actors can get placed on another series other than “Against the Wall”. For those of us actually living in Chicago, the writing for this show definitely shows a lack of integrity given what the city has been going through. We just barely had the conviction of torture of several officers, we have regular shootings of black kids by white officers, and we just lost about the only honest cop on the force with our recent change in mayors. This is a pretty insensitive time to be trying to white-wash the Chicago police force. We are finding this show pretty offensive.
