UPDATED: Texas Rangers’ series-winning Game 6 of the ALCS on TBS topped the broadcast and cable competition last night with 11.9 million viewers. It was the second most watched telecast ever on TBS behind the previous deciding ALCS championship game between the Red Sox and the Rays in 2008.)
The baseball game had little impact on CBS’ crime Friday lineup, which posted across-the-board increases. All dramas dominated their time slots in 18-49 and total viewers to deliver another Friday win for CBS, No. 5 this season. Medium (1.4/5, 6.5 million) was up 17% in 18-49 from its fast national result last week (up 27% from the series’ final rating, which was adjusted down). CSI:NY (1.9/6, 10.3 million) was up 12%, and newly picked up Blue Bloods (1.8/6, 11.1 million) was up 6%. Each show also added more than 500,000 total viewers.
After posting a rare 8 PM victory in 18-49 with the 200th episode of Smallville last week and finishing tied for second at 9 PM with Supernatural, the CW remained competitive last night, with Smallville (1.0/4) ranking second in the 8 PM hour behind Medium, and Supernatural (1.1/4) finishing 3rd at 9 PM behind CSI: NY and ABC’s Primetime. Also, in a promising sign given the fact that this is Smallville‘s final season, Supernatural actually out-delivered the veteran sci-fi drama in the demo (they were tied in total viewers with 2.5 million.)
ABC’s newsmagazines posted gains from 9-11PM to deliver the network’s best Friday average this season. Following a No Ordinary Family rerun (0.9/3), which was flat with last week, Primetime: What Would You Do? (1.3/4) was up 18% from what 20/20 did in the hour last week. At 10 PM, 20/20 (1.5/5) was up 15% from its delivery last week.
It was all bad news for NBC. At 8 PM, new reality series School Pride (0.7/3) was down 22% from its underwhelming premiere last week. Dateline (1.0/4) from 9-11 PM was down 17%, finishing far behind ABC’s newsmagazines in the time period.
Dramedy Good Guys is certainly testing Fox’s patience. Following a House repeat (0.7/3, even with last week), Good Guys (0.6/2) was down 25% for what seems to be a series low. How low can the show go before Fox pulls the plug?

Blue Bloods picked up? Hooray! Best new cop series by far.
So happy Medium did better. Last nights show was awesome. Loving Blue Bloods too. Best episode yet.
I just watched the first episode of Good Guys after not really being at all familiar with it — I like it. too bad that it’s bombing.
CSI:NY is great this year,it pairs nicely with Blue Bloods. There is finially something to watch on Friday night.
OMG!! Just cancel “Good Guys” already!! It’s like slowing down to look at a car accident! We know FOX is going too, is it they don’t want to piss off Tom Hanks? Ya I said it, we all know it had to be said!! Cancel it!
FOX is so damn dumb. They could easily fix this night if they were proactive for a change. To account for pre-emptions and the like, like football, they should program two Animated comedies at 8 PM (One of American Dad/Cleveland Show and a new one), the Jamie Foxx After Party and a new sitcom. That would actually be good counter programming to all the other nets and would be young skewing.
Not all people 18-49 are out on these nights. It’s just the networks don’t want to program to men for some reason. And the Good Guys doesn’t count, because it’s just corny.
I think this is a great idea. If the Jonah Hill animated project and Napoleon Dynamite do well they will have an overstock of animation. Like the anti-TGIF, like TGIF behaving badly.
A lot of college kids are hung over from Thursday night on Fridays and might be taking it easy. Stoners too might rather just stay in and watch this while ripping bong hits.
I’m guessing FOX just lets Good Guys finish its run. They did the same thing with Dollhouse last year. Obviously they aren’t going to order more but they’ll let it play out.
It’s rather amazing that Fox is sticking by the Good guys and even gave it a summer timeslot — something that the critically acclaimed Lonestar could have used instead.
Or Fox could have not picked up Good Guys or Lonestar and picked up BREAKOUT KINGS … a show that more than one 20th exec has confirmed to me tested SUBSTANTIALLY higher than Lonestar. Now Breakout is going to be on another network and Fox will be wishing they had a cool, hip, fun, procedural.
Great that CSI NY and Blue Bloods actually went up. I really thought they would drop due to the baseball game. And I guess Fox is just burning off Good Guys now. Kinda liked that show.
What does Fox have to gain by canceling The Good Guys. It’s a funny show, that the network really likes and has a very strong fan base. It’s not expensive and they are making money. What are they going to replace it with that will do any better?
good guys is truly awful. like a saturday night live skit that keeps going and going. it’s not clever enough to be campy and not funny enough to be comedy. ugh. cancel it.
CSI NY is better than last year, I am glad to see it doing better.
Its my favorite CSI. I also enjoy Blue Bloods.
Fox seems to usually cancel fast.
I was glad to see when they cancelled my favorite comedy
“Back to You” that the cast and writers from that show went
on to help ABC with Patricia Heaton going on to “The Middle”
and some of the cast and writers going to “Modern Family”.
So Thanks Fox Entertainment for a great Wednesday nite on ABC.
All the CW needs is David E. Kelly’s Wonder Woman starring Jordana Brewster.
Cable is where it is at. Boardwalk Empire is stunning. Bored to Death, Nurse Jackie, The Closer, Mad Men. All are far more compellng than this monumental drivel.
Medium, CSI NY and Blue Bloods all went up. Wish more people watched Medium. It’s awesome. Blue Bloods is excellent too. Gotta dvr everything on Friday nights. Glad some people watch them live for the ratings.
Agree on CSI NY being better this year, seems as if all the CSI franchises are improved…did they shuffle writers or something? Not many of the same tired stories being shown there which is nice.
My wife is a huge Medium fan, that just seems like a show which hasn’t quite got the attention it has deserved for one reason or another.
The Good Guys is a great show. If it actually had a LEAD IN, instead of reruns of Human Target, then reruns of House, and was on a different night instead, it would actually do well. The two leads are GREAT, and it’s a funny show. PLEASE MOVE IT TO A DIFFERENT NIGHT AND GIVE IT A CHANCE.
