20th Century Fox and director Ridley Scott have just about completed meetings with actresses to find
the Ripley-like heroine for the 3D Alien prequel. I’m told that, so far, Scott’s favorite is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace. The other names being whispered range from Carey Mulligan to Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman and Tron: Legacy star Olivia Wilde, the latter of whom met this week. Deadline revealed early this month that Rapace — who got the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2 – was a possibility for Alien. Now, the studio will be heavily involved in the ultimate decision, and I’m told that Rapace’s English is a consideration. Stay tuned.

The studio needn’t worry about “Rapace’s English,” as the precedent for choices of this kind are legion.
And apart from her exquisite presence and abilities, the studio might *also* take into account her likely Oscar nom for TATTOO. Right?
Go Noomi!
Noomi’s English is very exotic and sexy. It is a good thing, not a bad thing. When Arnold Schwarzenegger first started his career in movies, Hollywood didn’t like his accent. But when they saw how much American people liked his accent, they embraced his accent; which added to his character. I hope Noomi makes it big in Hollywood.
Noomi Rapace is the best out of that group. There is also something of a mid-thirties Sigourney Weaver thing about her, which doesn’t hurt.
I’m very glad to hear this, I hope Noomi gets it. Now I can look forward to this.
From all the candidates Noomi Rapace is the only believable choice.
Carey Mulligan as female hardass heroine is a joke. She will look as pathetic and boring as Winona Rider. Natalie Portman will play Natalie Portman as usual. And will look like Natalie Portman. She is too stereotype. Abbie Cornish and Olivia Wilde… I can’t even comment on that. It’s embarrassing to Aliens legacy that those two are even considered.
Please,Please no Natlie Portman!
I’m so happy about Noomi’s new “success” but watch her get snubbed by the Academy. They just ain’t that hip or smart.
Carey Mulligan – Too young
Abbie Cornish – Who?
Natalie Portman – Good choice but I don’t think she can pull off tough chick.
Olivia Wilde – no talent
Noomi Rapace for the win. She should get it. Come on Ridley, don’t mess this up like you did Robin Hood.
She is fluent in English, and only has the slightest accent.
I’ve no experience of “Rapace’s English” but I’m surprised since Sweden has an execellent school system and every Swede I’ve encountered to date has been bi-lingual, albeit with an accent that varies from Swedish (but never like the chef from the Muppet Show) to light American. As for it being a consideration, not from where I’d be sitting in the cheap seats: Rapace is a superb actress.
Her english is not that bad. She’s perfectly understandable. Have you heard Marion Cottillard lately?
OMG! Noomi as a Ripley-type? OH YES! Ridley Scott is such a smart director! Go Noomi!WE LOVE YOU NOOMI! Please put her in more movies! She is the greatest actress from Sweden since Liv Ullman and Ingrid Bergman! Oh, and please please Santa, bring Michael Nyqvist too! He’s a HOT HOT HOTTIE! Great actress, meet America! WE love you!!!
I saw Noomi on Charlie Rose the other day. She has a very slight accent. She is so beautiful and her face is so full of soul and depth. A remarkable woman and actress. She needs to give our Hollywood actresses a run for their money. I think she is all that and a bag of chips! LOL! The more I see her, the more I find her intriguing and compelling to watch. I think she has great charisma and character. The audience really loves her. I know I am a fan of hers for sure.
Enough with the prequels already! One of the worst storytelling trends ever. I blame Lucas and that awful 2nd Star Wars trilogy. What’s next, a Matrix prequel?
Who cares, as long as it’s in 3D! 3D makes everything better… 3D… orgasmic ripples of delight… 3D…
Mulligan is a joke choice. She’s not believable as a badass in the least. She was terrible in Wall Street and her Oscar nom was a fluke.
Whatever happened to Gemma Artherton? She would be a good choice in the role. Better than Rapace.
as the girl with the dragon tattoo and the sequels already has been shown on swedish tv she can`t be nominated for an oscar if i remember the rules correctly
It`s actually a tv-series and they cut it down to 3 movies that was shown in the cinemas
natalie portman is the best actress by far. she deserves the oscar for black swan. best performance of the year.
Dragon Tattoo was, I believe, a movie series first that was then expanded to a longer TV version with extra footage, rather than the other way round.
I’m getting Jerri Blank vibes from that picture…
The girl with the dragon tattoo was as I understand and what is often done in Sweden shot as both, the first one was supposed to be shown at the cinemas but not the sequels but I did so well they cut the sequels and showed them at the cinemas too.
Often swedish movies of this kind are made as a co-production by a tv channel and movie production company ment to be shown as a TV-series and as a movie or movies, Arn is another example 2 movies were shown in the theatres but they were made to be shown as a tv-series too with a couple more hours to it.
Noomi is the best choice. She has an intensity and physicality that none of the other actresses in the list have. I can see her as a believable action star. She defined the character in the Millenium series.
Somewhat interesting……….as long as it doesn’t get bogged down with egocentric actresses/actors!!! The Alien genre had its finest hours in
the first 2 episodes – Alien & Aliens……..Why might you ask……..
Because the cast and crew were fresh and by and large unknowns were used!!
That means, the crew did not out weigh the actual star – The Alien!
The crew was present but the true catalyst of both the first 2 films was
this truly mysterious creature and no one since has come up with anything
that could actually frighten folks to the marrow…..NOT GHOSTS, GOBLINS
Witches or Zombies but this visitor, this killing machine with no conscience, that, as was stated so eloquently, by the synthetic aboard the NOSTROMO, 1st Science Officer, Ash, “You still don’t understand what you’re dealing with, do you?… The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. A perfect non-prejudicial entity.
What’s with this “egocentric actresses/actors!!!” bull. If you want to have an opinion of this actress, at least as much as possible, check out youtube interviews before you make an uneducated judgement.
I just hope signing into Hollywood isn’t a bad career move for the actress. While she had already been known for roles on tv shows in Sweden, the Lisbeth Salander character was her breakout role. Any of the three movies may be eligible for an Academy Award (foreign film), and she may be nominated for actress as well. If she winds up in some over-hyped, big-budget Hollywood sequel that gets lousy reviews from the critics; that could ruin things for her.
I read the propsed script 4 times now…it’s fantastic, and nowhere in it should there be placed any 1 woman who looks or behves anything like Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley.
Having ANY woman other than Sigourney Weaver herself would be the single dumbest thing rideley scott ever did!!!
If your going to use a woman bad ass character, it 100% will KILL any credibility this series has.
There is NO PLace for this in the story
In fact there are several scenes of HOMSEXUALITY within the script itself and aside from 1 feamle character who appears in 2 very short scenes in the cript, near the end of this story…this ENTIRE DISCUSSION IS MISPLACED!!!
Calm down, grow up and pay closer attention. The prequels take place 30 years or so before Ripley is born. Only Star Trek has actors living 200 years.
