Sony Pictures Entertainment has optioned the Neil Strauss non fiction book Emergency!: This Book Will Save Your Life. It will be turned into a film that will be produced by Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Michael DeLuca. Wall Street 2 scribe Allan Loeb will write it as a potential star vehicle for Downey. The author, concerned about the state of the world, moved his family offshore and remade himself as a survivalist. He became a lock-picking, plane-flying, government-defying guy. This put him a spiral of paranoid fantasies and in proximity of shady lawyers and dangerous cult leaders, billionaire gun nuts and a number of once-normal people whose doubts about the establishment prompted them to move their families into a ridiculous life path.

Yes, please!
Yay, loved this book… great role for Downey.
Stroke of genius by Team Downey & DeLuca.
Pre-ordered this book, pitched this around our joint and got “wtf-are-you-smoking” looks.
Loeb will crush adapt and Downey will rule!
Allan Loeb is a mediocre to horrible writer. Look at his credits:
DUMMY – forgettable
THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE – bomb
21 – took a great story and turned it into medicore shlock
WALL STREET 2 – horrible, awful, soulless sequel
THE SWITCH – bomb.
I can’t believe Hollywood just continues to spew out crap and give work to writers who write bombs, and on top of that critically panned films. Why would you give this project to this guy?
Calm yourself.
Loeb is in such demand because he builds a foundation upon which profits are made, time and time again. If you have an issue with his craft, note that as a working writer, you don’t get two years to write it oh-so-preciously. Plus, you’re shitting on his other scripts, but he was 1 and 4 on the black list in the same damn year. Moreover, he’s a good dude who helps other writers. So calm the heck down and work harder.
He’s a hack that writes Hollywood dreck. His upcoming movies are:
*the awful looking THE DILEMMA, which the publicists on the film cause all the controversy because the studio knows they have a stinker on their hand, hence the January release date
*JUST GO WITH IT with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston – need I say more on that one – oh wait, I just found a logline and it sounds awful: A plastic surgeon (Adam Sandler), who is afraid of commitment, tells his much younger girlfriend (Brooklyn Decker) that he’s married, with children to avoid having a serious relationship with her. When she starts to believe he’s lying and threatens to leave him, he asks his office manager (Jennifer Aniston) and her children (Bailee Madison, Griffin Gluck) to pose as his family in order to prove his honest
*and he’s rewriting ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
He is the epitome of everything that’s wrong with Hollywood and why we have such bad movies.
This could be an interesting change-of-pace role for Mr. Downey. Okay… I’m there!
Downey can do anything. He should be the Crow. Because he would make even that work. Sherlock Holmes was super work for an actor. Can you imagine if Marky Mark had been Sherlock Holmes. Would not have worked. So,I think all the movies that are going to be remade should be made with Downey. If you are going to remake an old classic like the Thin Man. Use Downey. But, not a pirate. Downey could never be the pirate. Old Johnny has that one locked up.
Or Ben Stiller. All the remakes should be done with Ben Stiller. There should be a law. Ben Hur…remake it with Ben. On the Waterfront…The Crow…use Ben.
Emergency could be a challenging movie and it would be great if Downey will also play the lead role! Keep up the good work dude!
Sounds like a good story – why are they giving it to Loeb to screw it up. He’s a hack Hollywood writer who writes a lot of terrible films – has anyone at Downey’s co. reviewed his credits. Jeez. This is bound to be bad with Loeb writing.
