Sony Pictures TV has set up 3 half-hour projects – one at ABC and 2 at NBC – with script commitments that all have penalties attached to all. The ABC project reunited the studio’s non-writing producer Jamie Tarses with Betsy Thomas, creator of the recently canceled TBS sitcom series My Boys, which the two executives produced for Sony TV. Thomas is writing and exec producing the untitled ABC workplace relationships comedy. Tarses is executive producing through her Sony-based shingle Fanfare. The NBC projects come from writers Jeff Bushell (What I Like About You) and Ricky Blitt. The untitled Jeff Bushell comedy, which he is writing and co-executive producing, is set in pediatrician’s office. Sony TV is co-producing with Happy Madison. The untitled Ricky Blitt comedy is an ensemble from a male viewpoint about being single and 40.

Kind of morbidly curious about whether the NBC projects are going to be multi or single-cam. NBC desperately needs multi-cam shows but I have a feeling they’ll order some pilots and then decide again to get cold feet on making any series. Granted Ricky Blitt has already had two multi-cam shows and they both flopped (“The Winner” and last year’s winner of the worst title award, “Romantically Challenged”).
If only NBC would do what they did with Larry David, corral some promising writer and offer him freedom to do what he wants in exchange for accepting the multi-cam format. That’s not going to happen though (either the multi-cam or the freedom).
If Boooooooooosh’s pilot is half as funny as his latest feature spec about me, it’ll be Must See TV again over at NBC.
That’s not what happened. NBC corraled Jerry Seinfeld, who wisely brought in Larry David. The Peacock lucked into the added bonus of obtaining a comedic genius.
Right, but the effect was the same: David wanted to do the show single-camera, NBC (rightly) told him to do it as a multi-camera, but for the most part they let him do what he wanted. They weren’t doing it to keep David happy, they were doing it to keep Seinfeld happy – but apparently they’ve learned nothing from the experience, either way.
Although not quite understand, what I know, as viewers, is that we need some good comedies on TV. Good story. What makes us laugh.
Ricky Blitt is hilarious, but this is the third time he’s sold this show.
It’s Bushell and he is also hilarious.
Jeff Bushell is a funny kid. He can’t play basketball to save his life but he makes me smile and is a sharp dresser. He also like cats.
The self-deprecation doesn’t hide you posting about yourself, Jeff. Act like you’ve been there before.
we need another show about people in different stages in their relationships about as much as we need another failed ricky blitt “comedy”. how many chances does that dude get?
Jeff Bushell is super talented. NBC is lucky to have him and his pilot!
They should have picked up Larry Charles’ pilot “our show” this past pilot season. They had a new and creative concept in that pilot and they didn’t recognize what a gem they had.
They keep going back to the same people and the shows never seem to improve. Hmm….
Sorta like the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.
They should grab all the My Boys actors right now while they’re still available. Never ever get a better cast, that’s for sure.
Are you kidding me? Are you a Sony exec? That show was horrible! This new crappy show will bomb just like My Boys. And you’re going to argue how great it was, yet forget the fact that it was cancelled and nobody watched it.
Happy for the Bushman. He’s a good egg and hope he writes a killer pilot which I’m sure he will.
All those shows will bomb. Wanna bet?
Agreed. Absolute, pure shite!!!

Dear Pavan and Nice Veloso,
Comedy is more complicated and more subjective than simply “good stories.” The good stories should also be funny to be considered “comedy” otherwise you get melo-drama like Entourage being called “comedy.”
I am confused why either of you feel compelled to lob in a comment on this message board. I felt compelled so that I could say that your grammar and sentence structure make me laugh.
JEFF!! So happy for that man! His writing is top. Very funny and a great guy, Sony is lucky to have him. Always look forward to seeing his stuff.
