These so-called Power Lists are increasingly bizarre. Forbes magazine this week came out with its roster of “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” and I’m #79. It crazily has me higher than the Presidents of Iceland, Costa Rica, and Liberia. Also Donna Karan, Danica Patrick, Martha Stewart, and even Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chair Amy Pascal, who sent me this funny email and allows me to reprint:
From: Pascal, Amy
To: Nikki Finke
Date: Fri, Oct 8, 2010 9:13 amDear #79:
Major congratulations from #87.
P.S. I called you yesterday twice… If I was #86, would you call me back?
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Congrats. That’s gotta be one of the biggest awards someone with the title ‘blogger’ has ever received!
OMG YAY NIKKI!! DONT ABUSE IT!! XOXO
Ofcourse Forbes has you higher than the President of Iceland and Costa Rica. It’s Forbes. They’re capitalist. The President of Iceland and President of Costa Rica are both socialists (and only one of them is anti-gay. Here’s a clue: She’s Roman Catholic). And Forbes want to make them powerless. This is why Iceland and Costa Rica are the greatest countries to live if you want to move to the North or South.
“This is why Iceland and Costa Rica are the greatest countries to live if you want to move to the North or South”
Hilarious!
Amy Pascal is being smart. She saw what you wrote about Lauren Zalaznick and she’s being proactive.
LOL. Great email. Great kudos Nikki.
Congrats Nikki. That rocks. And, yes, I do think you’ve got more swagger than Iceland’s head of state. Way to go.
PS call Ms. Pascal back. It’s the Emily Post-ian thing to do.
I would ALWAYS call Amy Pascal back, because….SHE’S AMY PASCAL!!! I once emailed her, and got no reply. I guess if I was on the list at all maybe I would have been replied to…*sniff*…
lol, great email that one. Congrats to you as well.
Chelsea Handler at 33 while you’re at 79 and Amy’s at 87? Oy.
Congratulations. Wow. Forbes is my fav lists.
Having met Amy Pascal several times it doesn’t surprise me that her email would be witty and to the point. Thank you for sharing.
Great for you Nikki. You deserve it!
NIKKI Finkie, Forbes Most Powerful and influentail Women No.1 by 2012
From: Bashir, Romeo
To: Finkie, Nikki
Hi Nikki,
I would like to extend my congratulations to you. I enjoy reading Deadline Hollywood at all times and I am not surprised you won. You deserve it so enjoy it.
Best wishes from me.
Face it, Nikki, you’re the best. #79 is the new #1.
Well, Nikki —
You deserve it! I mean, there isn’t a single film, production company, studio, network, Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, Grammy, Independent Spirit Award, SAG nomination, production pact, overall deal, first look deal, WME, CAA, ICM, UTA, Gersh, Paradigm, Sundance, Telluride, Toronto, Cannes, SAG, WGA, PGA, IATSE, TV show, Television Critics Association, upfront, merger, bit of information that you don’t know and candidly report about.
Awesome job to you, Nellie, Tim, and the entire Deadline team.
P.S. — When will Facebook “Wall” comments be answered?
So is lunch scheduled with Ms. studio head “#87″?
Take the compliment and don’t crow about it.
Wait…
This is Hollywood. Strike that.
well done. and isn’t it funny how, no matter our stature or accomplishments, we’re still trying to get the attention of others? what a fantastic email.
Forbes also ranked Wabash and Centre College as two of the top 15 schools in America. For reference Stanford was ranked 23. Just saying…
Just wait until you are number one. ( evil laugh) Haha Ha.
Oprah will buy you a tv show to get rid of the competition.
You can put the cat on a desk and have the execs call in their phone tips with audience reaction.
(evil laugh)
BIG nikki rules the world. Congrats.
Well, congrats (or not, depends on how you look at this). Clearly yours is a influential voice in the culture, but with all due respect all these lists indicate is a disturbing tendency in the press to pander to facile novelty stories and an even more disturbing and depressing proof that the general IQ in media and specially the press has plummeted dramatically in the last 10 to 15 years. It seems to me that, with some noble exceptions, the talent just doesn’t flow there anymore. I think you should be proud of having created such a key forum of information and no-bullshit analysis about the industry, something nobody had ever come close to achieve, not receiving bogus and stupid honors from dumb-ass journalists who have not authority or knowledge to grant them to start with.
Congratulations.
Truth is always more powerful than spin.
Congrats, Nikki! Well deserved! Keep climping up the list so one day, we can see your name at the top and hear the iconic “Toldja!”.
This is the way an email from a studio executive with the foresight to greenlight and Fincherize The Social Network should read. Brilliant!
