EXCLUSIVE: After the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker, director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal are aiming high in casting their follow-up, the Paramount Pictures drama set in South America, Triple Frontier (aka Sleeping Dogs). I’m hearing that while he hasn’t committed, Tom Hanks is looking seriously at one of the pic’s lead roles. The story is set in the organized crime haven that exists in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven are producing with Boal and Bigelow. Grant Hill is exec producer. Since the film starts production early next year, the ensemble — there are five primary roles – will come together quickly. Insiders say no offer has been made yet, but Hanks and Bigelow are talking. Hanks next stars with Sandra Bullock in the Stephen Daldry-directed adaptation of the Jonathan Safran Foer novel Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close for Paramount and Warner Bros.

Does this movie has a strong female lead? I doubt it. I believe Kathryn Bigelow doesn’t like to have strong female leads in her movies. Is she insecure? Probably.
Angela Bassett wasn’t strong in Strange Days, a near-future world where females make the best bodyguards?
Somebody’s been drinking too much Haterade…
Wonder if they’re planning on shooting on location. Is that the area Jamie Foxx escaped when they were shooting “Miami Vice”?
No, Miami Vice was shot in Uruguay.
It will be interesting to see if it’s shot on location, as the area is still quite dangerous.
Agreed. Doesn’t make sense to shoot on this location

And Hezbollah likely the friendliest group there. Insurance would be way too high. Pick a nice resort with a nearby jungle.
Hurt Locker was filmed in Jordan/Kuwait, not Iraq.
That said, should be a great film. Go Columbia.
(???) You can’t compare the Triple Frontier with Irak. First, it’s not war zone. Second, if you are worried about security you can always ask these countries to help you cope with the situation. Last, you are somehow brainwashed by Fox, NSBC, whatever. All three countries have security forces in that spot in particular, you people see danger everywhere. I would be afraid to cross USA/Mexico frontier and I’m not even saying that you have people’s militia and military forces there. Come on, you are lucky to walk to a local store and not being robbed. I’m pity of you.
Fair enough. I wouldn’t compare to Iraq at the height of the violence or to Juarez. However, I’m just not sure insurance companies would see the difference. There have been problems in that region, why risk it (more specifically, pay the excess insurance costs) when there are other suitable locations?
You’re wrong. The triple frontier is very dangerous. They tried shooting Miami Vice there in 2005 and Michael Mann had to go on TV to let them know his crew had to leave because it was not only dangerous but too many people with no security so they filmed elsewhere. Miami Vice ended up getting only 10 usable minutes in that area. Granted there are no bombs going off in that area on a daily basis, but the triple frontier is the biggest black market in the world. This is a terrorist haven where rules dont apply and people are bought. Human trading is also huge in that area. You dont hear about the people who go missing either. Police keep that under wraps. Please do your research before making comments like these. You should google this area and the politicians who live there. Not a pretty site.
latino is right. laws and lives don’t apply in this area. anyone who visits iguazu falls gets an insight from everyone there as to the terror and lawlessness going on. there’s no way they could get insurance much less confirmations from Brazil, Argentina or Paraguay that no harm would come. they can’t film there, it’s just a stupid idea, lives have absolutely no value and politics even less.
I have lived in Paraguay for the past twelve years, and also lived here for a while in the 1980s.
There is a fair amount of regular crime here, and there is a small but active group of killers (the “EPP”) who hope to some day grow up to be like Colombia’s FARC, but really it is not terribly dangerous unless you stick your nose into the drug trade, which is actually not centered in the area of Ciudad Del Este, but far north of there. A great deal of smuggling occurs in Ciudad Del Este, but it is routine goods avoiding customs, not drugs. What does happen there a lot is money laundering, including for the drug trade, and that is why it is, we are told, of importance to criminal and terrorist organizations. There is little reason to think that a group of movie people telling a fictional story would not be safe with a routine amount of security and a bodyguard or two for the highest profile people. Do be careful who you hire though.
So are only secure people allowed to post anonymously?
Hey, she cast Jamie Lee Curtis in “Blue Steel”, and as Curtis mentioned in an Oscar profile of Bigelow last year, “her only suggestion was that I carry a bigger gun”.
I’ve always wanted to see Tom Hanks do a movie with Tom Cruise. They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film.
I hope to see Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis do another movie together after only having one scene together in Bonfire of the Vanities (1990). They are both incredible actors and it would be amazing to see them bounce off each other in a film again.
tom hanks should think carefully about undertaking this role with this director…let’s remember as great as Hurt Locker was it was like shooting on a backlot…only in a foreign country tightly controlled by the government. But moving Kathryn and her penchant for “lets say indecision” into a a not so controllable envirnonment
all involved could be asking “what the hell did we do.” To rush this movie into a quick production schedule only highlights the idiocy how movies get made. Actor availability-director’s other projects-producer trying to get 10 other films off the ground.Out goes the focus in comes the chaos and they havent left the Melrose gate. No wonder General Electric wanted out of this business..no business plan like a show business plan.
According to IMDB, Hanks’ next starring role will be in LARRY CROWNE, which he directed.. slated for release in 2011. The movie he’s doing w/ Sandra Bullock is supposed to hit in 2012
Wow,why so much hate? Are you all unemployed at the moment?
I never knew Tom Hanks was part Oompa-loompa. You learn something new every day!
During the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, former U.S. President George W. Bush Accused the Southern Cone countries (Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay) of harboring Islamic terrorists because of the large presence of Arab traders in the region. Were the accusations never proven, but now the director Kathryn Bigelow (the Oscar-winning “War on Terror”) rekindled the controversy by disclosing That has a script ready to shoot ‘Triple Frontier’ in the Triple Border Between the cities of Foz do Iguacu (Brazil), Ciudad del Este (Paraguay) and Puerto Iguazú (Argentina), divided by the Paraguay river and the river Iguaçu. What Is Certain Is That Will this project bring only the stereotypes Against Arabs living in this region, the typical American view of “saving the world,” war is nothing ‘holy’ Against Islam.
