EXCLUSIVE: While Tom Hardy’s plan to play Mad Max in the George Miller-directed Mad Max: Fury Road has hit another delay, the fast-rising Hardy’s in the mix for another big film at Warner Bros. I’m told that Hardy has been set by his Inception director Chris Nolan for a lead role in the next Batman film at Warner Bros. Insiders are keeping the role secret and won’t even say if he’s up for a villain role, but that seems a reasonable assumption. Hardy has followed up Inception with lead roles in the Tomas Alfredson-directed adaptation of the John Le Carre novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and he’s currently starring with Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon in the McG-directed Fox comedy This Means War. CAA reps Hardy, who’s expected to return to Fury Road when it goes.

EXACTLY! Bronson was a masterpiece performance. He also stole Inception (with Gordon-Levitt, ironically). He was also pretty good in Rocknrolla. Hardy’s done some damn good stuff. He’ll make a great villain.
Watch Tom Hardy in a series called The Take (it’s based on a Martina Cole book) as a gangster, he is a utter bastard, like a proper East End Londoner, he should have been in Lock Stock and definitely in the next Sherlock Holmes. I would like him to play The Riddler but i see Johnny Depp doing that role, I think he will be something completely different, they cannot have penguin-as Danny Devito was the right person cast in Batman Returns.
I just finished watching the British Series The Take online (based on Martina Coles novel) and you are right, Tom Hardy is brilliantly chilling as the vile and utterly
irredeemable London gangster, rapist, and all around psychopath. Every moment he’s on the screen I loathe him and yet I manage to feel some brief moments of sympathy (very fleeting, though!)for him during certain points in the drama.
I have to see Bronson and everything I can get my hands on that Hardy has done. He is a masterful actor.
After seeing Bronson, my guess is he’ll reprise the Joker role. I’d bet good money on that.

no chance. Heath Ledger’s performance was way too iconic. he defined that character in such a way that nobody will play the joker again for a very long time.
this is not to say Hardy won’t be great. he’s a fantastic actor and I’m sure he’ll be perfect for whatever role (hopefully a villain) they give him. but definitely not the joker.
Nolan already said Heath Ledger was the ultimate Joker in his vision and no one will reprise the role in his movies but I’ll take your money.

It’s been stated in several places that they refuse to touch Joker’s role. Nolan isn’t bringing the Joker back. He said it himself. So no, he won’t reprise the role.
So far for realistic bad guys are Black Mask, Calendar Man, Catman (yes he was real), Cluemaster, Maxie Zeus… so far that’s all I can find. These are mainly in the Detective series.

Nolan has made only two comments on the villian: first, that he is not bringing back the Jokers, and second, that it absolutely will not be Mr. Freeze. His words, not mine.
He also said hes not a fan of the penguin. So you can rule out the penguin as well.

I think Joseph could be the Riddler and Tom Hush if I remember the two characters work together against Batman, it would be cool to see these two actor binging up the banter as in Inception

Tom Hardy will either play the riddler or the black mask, which would be an awesome role for him. There will be no robin or any other side kick. This trilogy is strictly about batman and they will end it by him overcoming all odds against him. I say Johhny Depp as the riddler and tom hardy or leo dicaprio as black mask. Id put money on it.

Levitt could possibly play the joker even though Ledger’s performance was top notch! Levitt looks very similar to Ledger and maybe just maybe could continue the role of the Joker…which i think should happen because he is such a vital character in the Batman Saga

This is very cool news! What I like best about Tom is that he’s a true chameleon–he’ll bring something different to every role, allowing himself to become just about anyone. With the right makeup and costume, he’s done just that.
I’ve been also hoping for about 2 years to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt play a Nolan Batman villain, so if that could happen, too, I’d be happy.

Parts of Batman 3 will be filmed/set in New Orleans, suggesting one of the villains will be Killer Croc. Hardy would be perfect for the role. He’s got the physique and could pull of the reptilian vibe. I’m guessing Nolan will cast lots of Inception actors. Joseph Gordon Levitt as Riddler, Marion Cotillard as Catwoman, Ellen Page as Barbara Gordon/Bat Girl, perhaps a cameo by Leo as Clayface? One can only dream…

They’re shooting in New Orleans because of the massive tax incentives for filming there, just like several other films are currently doing. It has nothing to do with the plot, just that it’s affordable to film there at the moment.
The villain Hush hid in New Orleans in the comics. So, there is always the possibility it will play a major role if Nolan takes that road.
You’ll definitely never see Batgirl in a Nolan film, as he’s specifically taken steps to avoid it.Notice how DARK KNIGHT gave Jim Gordon a SON who hero worships Batman, while reducing his daughter Barbara- the one who becomes Batgirl- to an insignificant- and very young- background figure.(Similarily, he removed all references to Rhas Al-Ghul’s daughter Talia- the future Mrs. Bruce Wayne- from BEGINS).Instead,he gave us a (generic)character of his own invention for the female lead in both films- filling the spot that should have been occupied by existing characters that were much more interesting (Even Harvey Dent’s wife from the comics has more personality).
At this point, I doubt he’d even be willing to use Catwoman- although he’d be well- advised to just adapt SELINA’S BIG SCORE, which is just the kind of crime thriller material he’s looking for.
Remember that Gordon does have a son. See Batman: Year One.

Not necessarily Killer Croc. Remember, Hush was hiding in New Orleans when the great plot to overthrow Batman took place in the comics. Riddler, Hush, Joker and Ras Al Ghul all played a part in it. Seems to tie the three films in rather well actually—-

Please, no Ellen Page. I know she’s an Indie darling since Juno, but her onscreen presence now is just meh. She was out of her league in Inception. I’m still bothered by the inaudible gibberish she said in the trailers.
Agree her onscreen presence was underwhelming in “Inception,” but Nolan didn’t give her much to do — he basically just gave her about a dozen different ways of asking someone around her to please explain what was going on.
I am not a Page fan and thought she was very good in Inception.

If they do a Knightfall Saga series, I think that it would end Nolan’s trilogy just perfectly! And he’d make a great Azrael! And at the very end “You are Batman…and I am nothing.” It’d be awesome!
I like ‘Knightfall’ as the title of the film but NO to the Knightfall series because Bane (The Second Most Ridiculous Character After Killer Croc) won’t interest Nolan and the Goyer camp one bit.

I haven’t seen that much of the guy’s work, but he gives off a vibe that he’s a real actor and someone that could a performance that would stand up to what Ledger did in the last one.
Robb, check out his work in a lot of Masterpiece Theatre/PBS stuff over the last couple of years such as Wuthering Heights and Oliver Twist. Also, an interesting little movie called “Scenes of a Sexual Nature” from 2006. “Bronson” also incredible.
Just so long as it is not in 3D. (Although the studio suits are most likely going to force Nolan into this.)

He was great in Bronson, and I loved him in Inception. I’m still looking forward to seeing him in a new Mad Max, but this is great in the meantime!
If you haven’t seen the movie ‘Bronson’ with Tom Hardy as the lead, then you need to drop everything and do so. If anyone were to play Joker besides Ledger, it’d be him. He is the only person I truly believe would and could do justice to the role. The deepness to his voice his similar to Ledger’s and as someone mentioned above, he’s a chameleon in his roles. That being said, he’s an excellent choice for any director looking to add a good performance to their film.
Give it a rest with the Joker will ya? Nolan said twice he won’t be replacing Ledger. He did a fantastic job and no other actor should mess with that in this franchise. Nolan has an array of villains to choose from.
Hardy is a good choice but I’m not too keen on the Riddler, I hope he’ll play Black Mask. AND NO LAMEASS CATWOMAN!!!!

I think the movie will feature a number of rogues gallery villains… it’ll be the next development of escalation, introduced when The Joker popped up at the end of Batman Begins. I bet Hardy is The Penguin.
