EXCLUSIVE: Scott Cohen will co-star opposite Callie Thorne in the USA pilot Necessary Roughness. Meanwhile, Sara Rue has joined CBS’ comedy series Rules of Engagement as a recurring, with Joan Collins tapped for a key guest spot on the CBS sitcom. Both Roughness and Rules are produced by Sony TV.
Roughness centers on tough, sexy Long Island divorcee Danielle Santino (Thorne), who, to make ends meet, becomes the therapist for a professional football team and quickly becomes sought after by other athletes, musicians, politicians and those living in the spotlight. Cohen, repped by Gersh and One Management, will play a “fixer” for a football franchise who works closely with Danielle.

On Rules, former Less Than Perfect star Rue will recur as Brenda, Jeff (Patrick Warburton) and Audrey (Megyn Price)’s new surrogate. In a November sweeps episode, Dynasty alumna Collins will play Bunny Dunbar, the mother of Russell Dunbar (David Spade).

I love both Callie & Scott. Quirky, fun, great actors. Congrats USA on consistently making solid casting choices.
I was wondering when someone would get Joan Collins back on TV. Can’t wait to watch.
Love Sara Rue and Joan Collins but Rules of Engagement? Why are they lowering themselves to appear on that trash? I can’t think of a more insipid show on TV. In fact who knew that dreck was still on!
I love Sara Rue but she deserves so much better than the dismal “Rules of Engagement”. Girl…you need a better agent.
So I guess that rules Scott Cohen out as making a return as a detective in USA Network’s “Law & Order: Miami” coming up next summer then right?!
Congrats to Scott and Sara!
I liked Scott in Showtime’s Street Time. Good show. I’d love to see it again, but it’s not even available on Netflix. Showtime should make it available online. By the way, Netflix does have Kidnapped, one of my all time favorite series. Don’t miss it.
Thrilled to hear that Joan Collins will be back on TV and in a comedy no less! Inspired casting, Joan as David Spade’s mother, hilarious!
Did Jeff call Brenda a lesbian when Russell asked him why Brenda is being considered for MVP of the baseball team?
