Here is a trailer for MTV’s upcoming teen series Skins, an adaptation of the British series that plays like a much racier Gossip Girl. Skins premieres in January.

I hope they don’t screw this up. The UK version of skins is the best show about modern teens on the air. Hoping MTV goes smart TVMA not PG13 Jersey Shore.

MTV is plain awful. All they have is shock and titillation. Attitude passing for character. Amazing the power and influence they wield with teenagers and they choose to exploit and sexualize them instead of exploring real things kids face. Oh and play some effin music once in a while.

More responsible programming from MTV. Why is our country quickly slipping down the rabbit hole and becoming less and less a superpower? MTV and irresponsible programming from networks… underage sex and drugs… isn’t that deadly close to child pornography? Fuck MTV

Well said “great”. Remember when MTV eroded funding for public education for three or four generations consecutively and then got us into a Rambo III revenge war with an abstract ethos and then used that “war” to invade another country, thinning our GDP to the breaking point in the process all while back in the US a cabal of “bankers” pulled off the biggest heist in history and claimed it had “all been lost”? Yeah. MTV. Fuck Tabitha Soren.

Looks pretty much point for point exactly like the first ep of the first series of the UK version. I can’t imagine MTV doing anything but screwing this up — they’ll go for the sensational over story and character.

This is literally the same exact episode that already aired during the first season of the UK version, as a previous comment stated. It’s nearly a shot for shot remake, but with much poorer writing and melodramtic hipsters pawning off as the cool kids, which is incredibly lame. “Skins” on MTV will never ever be as cool as it is in England because MTV always finds a way to muck things up and put their fake gloss over whatever they touch. It’s pathetic that they even had to take the UK series in the first place, rather than think of an original idea on their own.

It looks like a shot by shot remake featuring watered down versions of good characters. I literally cringed when I heard that infamous ,”Tony! Tony” line. If they were going to re-create Skin, the least they could have done was to just make it a spiritual sequel. This just looks like trash.
This looks HORRIBLE. i love the british skins and this just looks horrible. MTV seriously has the worst television shows. they need to stick to reality. or maybe try out some music. i also dont get if your going to rip off the entire episode why not name the character sid. why change his name? also their version of cassie is just awful. shame on you MTV for ruining a great show.

England imports American shows all the time. Why couldn’t MTV just buy the British version? It’s not like it needed subtitles or anything.

As you can tell by some on the comments,MTV would never be able to get away with a true uncensored version of Skins because America is too puritanical. America can’t even handle adult sexuality or nudity on TV how are they suppose to do it with teens like the UK version.

Okay, so we can all say this looks like crap? I can’t judge acting based on a promo, although casting seems all wrong, but this is almost a shot by shot remake. What’s the point of making a remake, if you keep the exact same dialogue, word by word? Getting rid of the accent?

Oh, and Nellie, Skins is NOTHING like Gossip Girl. Not by a long shot.

I wondered the same thing – from the promo alone, where could anyone possibly see similarities with Gossip Girl? Because they are all supposedly teenagers? That’s the only similarity I can come up with. The Upper Eastside this sure ain’t.

LAME!
Yet another great British show ruined by America.
Maybe if Showtime was doing it.
It would have a chance. This is yet another crappy MTV show. Thought the M stood for MUSIC!

Weirdly, this actually looks like British people in Britain speaking American English.

Because Hollywood has an invested interest — and you can say this is for better or for worse — in keeping American actors and crews working. Hence, British TV got sentenced to the PBS ghetto.
As a result, the mass audience has been brought up believing that anything foreign is somehow lesser quality or substandard, or would be just to difficult to understand. Of course then a movie like “Crouching Tiger” or “Slumdog Millionaire” comes along and blows that perception out of the water.
But TV remains immune to the charms of foreign countries’ programming.

Worth a fair shot at least. Need to remember that MTV’s scripted and unscripted programming divisions are completely separate. David Janollari has done some good work since he became head of scripted.

just like the brit original: a shallow hyper-idealized teen drama that only the 35+ yo audience still care to watch.

Can’t understand why they’ve chosen to copy the british show…
Same storylines, same characters, same JAL!
Too bad! It’s obvious that the original show is far more etter than its american copy.

I think this show would be better suited on a premium station like HBO or SHOTIME even IFC would be better. Id like to watch it but I have my doubts about it seeing as its on MTV. Any station that airs the Jersey shore doesn’t have any creditability in my book.

I watched the U.K. version of skins from begining to end. They managed to get the sexually driven teen drama genre right. But “american” MTV comes in and buys the rights and makes an exact duplicate of show which includes the EXACT same story lines and characters is insulting to both the U.K. and U.S. audiences. Is originality so hard to grasp?
