Veteran writer-producer Bill Kunstler has sold a comedy project to CBS, which will be produced by CBS TV Studios. Additionally, he has inked a blind script deal at Warner Bros Television with Topher Grace attached to executive produce through his production company Sargent Hall Prods. The CBS project is based on Musings of a Middle Child, a manuscript by Bruce Hopman, with whom Kunstler worked during his early days in advertising. It centers on a man suffering from middle-child syndrome who is determined to spare his own middle child of the same fate. With the project, Kunstler will be going for pilot No.2 this season. He already has one in the running at CBS: the cast-contingent Tick-Tock, which was rolled from last year. It is also produced by CBS Studios.
Paradigm-repped Kunstler, whose resume includes more than 15 series, most recently worked as a co-executive producer on another CBS/CBS Studios project, the Jenna Elfman-starring series Accidentally on Purpose.

Holy crap, that sounds like the most incredibly boring idea for a TV show EVER. This really got set up?? Man, I truly have no idea what’s sellable anymore…
Comments like DW’s never cease to amaze me. Just take half that negative energy and put it into a spec so when Bill’s show goes, he can NOT hire you. Take the other half of your negative energy and finish making my soy latte. Bill is hilarious. And his show will be too.
I’m actually a successful working director, repped by WME, with a feature coming out this fall and another already in pre-pro. But thank you for insulting all the decent, hard working human beings who work at coffee shops serving your elitist ass.
well then even more reason to be supportive of others…..your negativity seems bitter and lame….so you don’t like the concept, we get it. but why be such a jerk and rain on somebody else’s success??
I personally think this sounds interesting. However, DW – I have to defend your right and obligation to speak your honest opinion. TV development is way too much of an echo chamber. Every project seems to be wonderful and excellent no matter what. DJ, why presume everybody who dislikes something made by a high-status writer MUST be a low-status barista? Do you even know how to make a soy latte?
I think you guys are missing the point here. Who says the person making the soy latte actually works at a coffee place?!
No offense, but 15 series on your resume is a red flag for me when I’m hiring a writer. Has this guy ever been asked back on staff for a second season? I’ve met Bill, seems like a nice guy, but I’m far more impressed with a guy who has fewer credits and multiple seasons. And sorry, this subject sounds really dull. But best of luck!
Yay Bill! You are a great writer and I wish you nothing but luck on your projects.
Well, Bill certainly has nailed the voice of “DJ”. I’ll say that for him.
The show may be funny, TV is really about execution, but it’s certainly a soft concept.
The premise is less of a red flag than the fact it’s for CBS. Seriously, do they have a single show with an ounce of intelligence? And don’t tell me Big Bang is good. It isn’t. And the rest of CBS’ schedule is blighted with procedurals for numbskulls. I haven’t been able to get through an episode of anything on that network since Raymond left the air.
I’ve hired Bill before and would again. He’s a great writer, really is. You can’t tear someone down just because they have more credits than think is acceptable.
Oh, I see what the comment section is. This is where you come to blow off steam because you can;t get your own pilot sold. As for the premise, you really think you can judge the concept from a sentence? How compelling do you think the one sentence description for Raymond was? Or Two and a half men? And as for DW, the defender of the brewista, is that how successful writer/directors spend their free time, commenting on blurbs on industry news websites? Really? Hey, here’s a fun idea: let’s all crap on somebody we don’t know and their success. How pathetic…
Bill is one of the good guys. I wish him the best of luck.
Spend an hour in a room with Bill and you’ll know he’s the real deal. Nice to see someone who’s been around a while get some attention instead of another flavor of the week.
