EXCLUSIVE: In a high-six figure deal, Warner Bros. and Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road has acquired Dark Moon, a spec script drama that was written and will be directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. The spec explores the possibility that manned moon missions did not stop with Apollo 17. Using found footage, it makes the case for a black ops post-Apollo mission sent to the moon to explore previously classified discoveries and its unintended and disturbing consequences. Goldsman and Kerry Foster will produce for Weed Road. Osunsanmi is best known for 2009′s The Fourth Kind, which was released by Universal. He’s also attached to direct The Commuter for Gold Circle and he adapted the Robert Buettner novel The Orphanage for Davis Entertainment. He was also once Joe Carnahan’s assistant. He’s repped by CAA and Caliber.

I’m not a fan of Osunsanmi. I actually enjoyed “The Fourth Kind” as a movie, but completely lost respect in the movie and the filmmaker when I found out that it was not a true story nor was the “documentary” footage real. To me, that’s just outright lying.
I think he learned his lesson though. I felt the same way you did. It was so disappointing, especially knowing that in this day and age there’s no way for you to get away with lying like that.
But yeah, I think he learned a thing or two and will adjust.
There are something like FIVE FOUND FOOTAGE movies and another TV series completed or in production!
The LOST TAPES series already on the Travel Channel is hilariously bad.
This whole concept feels really tired and played out.
Agreed.
more found footage is just…..”yawns”
zzzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZ
Relax Dude. You should respect his talent, because the film was very well done and he made you believe that the story was true. It’s no different than the ads supporting “The Blair Witch Project”. It’s entertainment, either you were or weren’t entertained. Here’s a hint quite a few people were, because it did very well at the box office. Another hint, I hope this is not a shocker, Santa Clause is not real either.
The other movies did not use REAL newspapers for their headlines to make it seem authentic!!
Universal had to settle with newspapers after using their names without permission to make the public believe the story. They knew all along it was wrong but said internally to staffers the first two weeks of box office will make up for the settlement costs. Pretty low class for a studio marketing dept.
And a 25 million dollar box office does not make it a hit.
So true. On an unrelated note, have they found those poor film students from THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and that murdering demon lady from PARANORMAL ACTIVITY? It seems like those would be easy cases, considering all that documentary footage they have……
HAHAHAHA
Welcome to the movie business…. hello. You should appreciate it even more that he got you to buy into the deceit hook, line and sinker by sounds of it.
So good to see Akiva’s name in the public eye again after the sad passing of his beloved wife. I hope he and his family are doing OK — as OK as can be expected given such a tragic loss. Godspeed, Akiva.
(and congrats to Osunsanmi. It’s nice to see a talented black director get ahead without resorting to ‘precious’ stories about 300 pound black girls getting molested in ‘da hood.’ Good luck to you Olatunde! And to the poster named Zach… you sound like a jealous twit. Please get out of your mom’s basement and get out there and do you own movie. Maybe then you’ll get success that will be heralded right here on Deadline.com !!!!)
Bobby, Amen!!!!! Good to see a Black director doing a real Hollywood movie instead of some chitlin-circuit coon show. And a sci-fi flick yet! All of us brothers who went to college, read books, and have imaginations that extend beyond the hood, there is hope.
The Fourth Kind was unwatchable. So let’s give this guy another movie.
Thank you.
“Using found footage”?
Sounds like he’s just doing the faux documentary thing again
Zach – honestly, are you an idiot, or at least mildly retarded? You don’t like the filmmaker because you watched his “movie” about aliens and later realized it was all make-believe (aka, “just a movie”)?? Hahaha… Wow.
Dan, did you even watch the movie? Did you even bother reading my post? Obviously not. I could engage in insults with you, but I won’t stoop to your level. I offered my comments and my opinion.
The movie went out of its way to say “This is a true story” time and again. Do ordinary movies make that same claim? Did “Blair Witch” say the movie was based on the truth? “Paranormal Activity”? No.
Making a movie realistic is very different than saying “This is real footage based on actual events.” I can enjoy the former but not the latter if it’s not actually true.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Zach,
I remember reading your script. It sucked. Everyone passed. And when you get a chance, can I get a refill on my Lemonade? Thanks sport.
Best,
Dan
Awesome concept! Tunde is real deal.
LOL @ Dan! I was thinking the same thing about Zach! Someone has obviously drank the haterade!
I can’t wait for the movie! And am also glad to see Black Directors/Writers step out of the ethnic norms! Way to go!
You’ll be in the theatre alone. Enjoy!
The story sounds dope, but I kind of agree about the ‘lost documentary footage’ aspect. Pretty played out. The concept would actually work better as a tv show, I think. Minus the documentary style. Would be kind of like Lost-meets-Battlestar Galactica.
I’ve seen a lot of terrible movies over the years but the fourth kind is one of the worst movies I have ever paid to see(in theatre [ok in Ecuador, but still]). the real footage is so obviously fake (nobody is that ugly) but even if the footage was legit the movie would still be fucking awful.
