Andy Harries, producer of The Queen and The Damned United, is planning a movie based around the Pink Floyd track Another Brick In the Wall. But it’s not a remake of Alan Parker’s Pink Floyd movie The Wall. Rather, it tells the true story of the schoolchildren who sang on the 1979 number one and their maverick music teacher. Harries tells me it’s “Dead Poets Society meets School of Rock.” He’s optioned the life story of music teacher Alun Renshaw who arrived at a struggling north London comprehensive (public) school in the late 70s, determined to shake things up. His class eventually ends up singing the chorus on the Pink Floyd track – whose controversial lyrics, flicking a V-sign at authority, end up getting Renshaw sacked. First-time writer Steve Thompson is writing the script for Left Bank and BBC Films. But Harries admits he hasn’t got the rights to the song yet. Songwriter Roger Waters can be notoriously difficult but he’s touring The Wall next year, so the timing could be propitious.

very cool idea for a film.
i’d really like to see a film about the breakup / lawsuit between the members of Pink Floyd,
that would make the Social Network look like nursery school.
Did you know Roger Waters has gone solo? He was a founding member of Pink Floyd together with the late Syd Barrett.
I HAVE LISTENING TO PINK FLOYD SINCE THE EARLY 1970s.
The great Roger Waters is more than just ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL.. just another member of Pink Floyd pursuing a solo recording career, I think.
This is really a cool idea. I think it is more perfect if it will add some love struggle in the story line or some of love triangle. LOL. That is much better to add since it is the common and most effective to let viewers relate themselves.
And make the teacher a woman… get Julia Roberts to play her…
shows how much u no about floyd
Shows how much you know about sarcasm, Anonymous.
Mr BEN STILLER was making fun of the modern movie industry. They screw up so many movies with their, “audiences can’t relate unless we ______” storytelling theories. As if that wasn’t obvious by his name though (Ben Stiller is a famous comedian known for having big ears and shiny eyes.)
Just look at Silent Hill that replaced the protagonist with a woman, because according to the director “Audiences can’t relate to a man in a caring position.” PFFFT.
will it also feature a cameo from Jim Nabors since he also found himself on the record?
…as well as Toni Tenille….!
I would totally see this movie. Sounds like a cool story.
With the kids filing lawsuit over their royalties to The Wall, Waters might not be overly keen to support a film about them.
“Queen” Producer. Is that a generic term?
“The Wall”, brilliant album, awfull movie. Take a hint.
Oh, please. The film version belongs on any REAL movie lovers’ list of all time greats.
We don’t want no…
…shitty back-story.
Roger is touring The Wall right now, not next year.
In fact, he’s performing The Wall at Staples in Los Angeles tomorrow night.
LOVE the pic of the 45 of “Another Brick in the Wall Part II” picture sleeve!
wow really?? really?? this is garbage, i love floyd more than anything, but why would u even try an do this?? Floyds not even doing it. i dont see why they dont make an actual bio of them, from start to end. not try an take a story and put more in to it
Good thing you said “I think”. Waters went solo in the 70′s, albums include “The Pros and Cons of Hitchiking”, “Radio KAOS”, “The Final Cut” is also his which are songs from “The Wall” that didn’t make the album. Waters, Gilmour, and Wright all have solo albums from the 70′s to the present, Wright died not that long ago RIP. If you want a killer band find four guys who are total opposites, all have egos larger than life, have excellent writing skills, and of course musical talent who taught themselves and you have Pink Floyd.
charlie hunnam needs to cast as david gilmour
