The additional pickup will bring the total third-season order for the show to 24 episodes. While not a breakout hit, Castle has been a solid performer for ABC on Mondays where it runs neck-and-neck with CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 for the top spot in adults 18-49 at 10 PM.

Good news, though I’d rather they’d already ordered the next season.
Hopefully this isn’t a “have 2 eps, tie the show up” type of order.
I’d be surprised (if they were tying it up). What could they possibly have to replace it? It seems like it should be a fairly cheap show to produce, and as described it does get solid-to-good numbers, but what do I know.
Wooo hooooo! Now Nathan Fillion along with all the marvelous cast and crew of Castle can continue bringing us the most excellent entertainment in the world! (After Firefly!)
Castle is suffering this year, I think the 2 episode order is more a last chance to get their stuff in order and a way to add to the (potential) syndication almost inveitable NCIS type run on some indie station and/or USA type station.
Since Jose Molina left to do his own stuff, “unable to reach a new contract” was the official phraseology, the show is becoming more a paen to sillyness, whilst not a bad thing is not the way to over come 5-0.
Maybe it is time to move it from 10pm to 9pm for those younger folks who would find this attractive, spin the numbers all you like – the show skews old.

Castle is an amazing show ~ well written, great ensemble cast chemistry and Nathan Fillion is so funny and quirky and wonderful in this role. It remain on air for a very very long time.
Jose Molina Has never been at the creative center of “Castle”. what an odd comment to make.
I love the show, but this season has been a bit weaker than last. A little sleepier than before. I don’t see Castle going anywhere. It’s a strong performer and with some tighter writing could be even better. Still a lot of potential and a very strong, likable cast.

Wow, two whole episodes! Open the champagne. Really, the 2-ep order doesn’t really send a strong message that the net is behind this. More like they see holes in the line-up down the line and are backfilling where needed.
I watch this show, like it, but would be great if they’d remove that stupid staccato music cue every time there is a “double-take” on something.

Nina, your comment that “the show is becoming more a paen to sillyness” is ironic in light of the last episode, a very-serious story about a kidnapped child. Even leaving that ep aside, the show has ALWAY had silliness as part of its format.
ABC’s “Castle” kicked CBS’s “Hawaii Five-0′s” ass last week. “Castle” broke into the top ten scripted network dramas. “Hawaii Five-0″ was 12th.
I think the show will be around for quite some time. The show looks good because it is shot on real motion picture film. The digital “Five-0″ look sucks. It hurts my eyes.
Hawai 5-0 WHo?????? Never saw it and it if it is up agains Castle, never will. Go go go. Best show on TV!
The show is becoming extremely boooooooooring yawn. Same story line for every episode. They need to take time in the show for something other than solving the mystery.
