The National Union of Journalists, which has 4,100 BBC members, voted to reject the corporation’s “final” pension offer, which the union described as making journalists “pay more, work longer and receive lower pensions.” So the BBC journalists have gone on strike for 2 days in a row and disrupted program schedules. Flagship Radio 4 news program Today was cancelled this morning. Tonight’s news programs will also be affected. A further 48-hour strike is planned for November 15-16, with threats of more disruption over Christmas. Scaled-down news programs are being padded out with pre-packaged material, but the strike will really bite if it continues.

bring back the BBC !!! i can no longer listen to NPR
BBC workers who strike over inflated wage, hours, and retirement benefits, are being unrealistic. BBC, like American counterpart, NPR, has become redundant. They also have become very liberal, and spread that liberal view, generally favorable to government, with impunity.
Let them strike, until they pull down their employer. Then, they can watch as private enterprise replaces them. Government media was only appropriate when no other alternatives were available. It is time to de-fund and eliminate government media entirely. This strike should be the catalyst for that necessary result.
Easy answer — please God, let the NPR go on strike TOO! Love to see a replacement of the Baghdad Broadcasting Company.
The ultra-fringenut BBC is simply the UK’s version of NPR, sucking at the public teat and complaining at having to be weaned and grow up. Ultra-fringenut NPR needs to be weaned from the public coffers as well. Same liberal biased media, different countries. I wouldn’t be surprised if George Soros funds both.
Great! With the BBC out you folks might actually get some truth in your news for a change.
