The crowd on the picket line at The Biggest Loser ranch is expected to be significantly larger tomorrow after the LA County AFL-CIO affiliate today endorsed the IATSE-led strike by the reality series’ crew and vowed to send picketers from some of the 350 unions and more than 800,000 unions it represents. There won’t be much to picket though as Biggest Loser is not scheduled to be filming on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the show’s AFTRA-represented talent, trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper and host Alison Sweeney are yet to cross the picket line despite having no-strike clauses in their contracts. What’s more, the three are auctioning off a training session (Michaels/Harper) and a lunch date (Sweeney) on Ebay to support the relief fund established for the striking crew.

I enjoy the series, but I’d rather see it cancelled than give in to these thug’s demands and set a precedent in reality tv.
Thugs? Reality needs a wake up call. They should all be union. Thats what this town is based on. You sound angry and maybe your a Big Loser, living in Iowa.
So it’s unreasonable to want healthcare benefits?
Let’s take a hypothetical situation. Suppose one worked in reality tv in a position that isn’t covered by a union. Suppose strikers wanted to picket right before the holidays when it’s toughest to find employment and put said person out of a job with no means to purchase gifts for their children.
Would that be acceptable because at least you get yours? It’s not me, but it nearly was ten years ago. I’m just sayin’…
I really don’t expect a logical response. Selfish yes, logical no.
Yeh well these workers on strike probably have union cards and the would like to get union hours because the producers new agreement will make it harder to get benefits. The Biggest loser is mostly part time and so are alot of reality shows , believe your not going to make a living on one show. Unless you are on a eposodic show working 60 -70 hours a week making $2,000.00 – $3,000.00 a week. And those are all union. You don’t understand these guys jump from show to show. Also production always slows during the holidays. Thats why we save our money to get thruogh the slow time. There is no hypothetical situations in show business
Still no sensitivity for those non-union workers who are losing pay due to the selfish strike?
These workers on strike make $450.00 for 10 hours work. Union scale is $30 to $35 an hour. They would be making less money, but would have Medical, Dental, Vision and Pension. Liability insurance is less, because all union members must go thruogh a extensive 14 class safety program. Incidents on Union shows are far lower. The Biggest Loser is in 120 countries and 60 different versions. This is a huge money maker. It would cost the producers less to be union. Well you what they say about Prodouchers.
