Sarah Palin lost almost half of her premiere audience in the second airing of her TLC reality series Sarah Palin’s Alaska. On Sunday, the series executive produced by Mark Burnett, drew 3 million viewers. That is down 40% from the 5 million who tuned in for the debut last Sunday. In adults 18-49, Palin averaged 885,000, down 45% and also posted a similar decline, 46%, in adults 25-54. Meanwhile, AMC’s zombie drama The Walking Dead (4.8 million), continued to hold steady, down 5% from the previous week in total viewers.

Just as I predicted. Like a freeway accident, people couldn’t help to stop and look. Now they have driven by and won’t look back. Bye bye bye. The majority of people don’t care for an hour long campaign commercial.
I was wondering why Drudge wasn’t trumpeting the ratings yesterday and linking to this site. Typical bullies, silent when things don’t go their way.
Perhaps this means Mark Burnett has “jumped the barracuda?”
Loved Palins Alaska – thought it was going to be a big push for her but it is really a showcase of the people who make their home in this state – never get closer to halibut than a seafood counter but got a whole new respect for the people who earn their living in a way that most of us could not deal with – and LOVED when this guy runs up to the Palins for a picture – with Todd “Irondog” Palin, who apparently is a celebrity in his own right. Really funny
I realize conservatives are not big on grammar, but please, try and learn how periods work.
And commas.
And sentence structure.
And coherent thoughts.
Jana, I agree. The show spends more time showcasing the glories of Alaska and its people than anything else. Palin is the tour guide. I got a kick out of the Todd Palin fan, too.
“…got a whole new respect for the people who earn their living in a way that most of us could not deal with…”
I think it would be more accurate to say that most of us CHOOSE not to deal with that way of making a living. Human beings are resilient and adaptive.
I’m an attorney: bet most of them couldn’t deal with what it takes to make a living the way I do.
Walking Dead is all kinds of awesome! Nice to know there is a force that can stop Sarah Palin…. Yay Zombies (if only)!
You win at the internets today with this comment.
America has spoken! (Think she’s listening?)
Cable shows are constantly repeated. If you miss it, you can see it later.
3 million is still a sizable audience.
Not unexpected at all. Everyone tuned in the first night to see what the hoopla was. Once they figured out it was the same old pap, they tuned out. She’ll continue to drop until settling in the 1.7-1.9 million range for total viewers.
does anyone give a shit less about s. palin than i? doubtful.
I’m confused. Sarah Palin and the Walking Dead are not the same show? Seems like someone’s missing an opportunity here.
I’m still hoping a giant bear will eat her. Would make a great season finale.
LOL.
I watched again. She is the best. Liberals why she drives you so crazy is very funny.
Well, having experienced the Bush years, where ignorance, divisiveness, and shoot from the hip vindictiveness ruled the day, we as a country are not really eager to double down on that approach to governance with Ms. Palin.
Oh, Pete – thought you were talking about the OBAMA administration? You know, divisiveness, vindictiveness ruling the day (“let’s punish our enemies”), ignorance (no, there are not 57 states).
Whoa…with so many Talking Points, your little brain must have been exhausted typing.
It is funny that the same party that declared the “Axis of Evil” gets the vapors out of the “punishing our enemies” comment. Of course, you probably thought the comment “you’re either with us or against us” was the epitome of unity?
Remember when our NATO allies pointed out that the non-existent WMD in Iraq didn’t justify an invasion just how the Bushies reacted? Oh, that’s right, insults about “freedom fries” and “old Europe. No WMD, who was right, who was wrong?
Remember when the same Tea Partiers making threats of armed rebellion since the 2008 election used to insist that ANY public criticism of Bush was tantamount to treason? It would seem that substantially worse things have been said about our President by Ms. Palin than anything uttered by the Dixie Chicks.
Finally, there hasn’t been a single instance where the Republican plan of massive tax cuts along with proportionally larger increases in defense spending balanced a single budget. You guys want wars all over the planet? Better raise taxes to pay for them. No more blank checks for GOP wars.
Dude, don’t use your brains against an unarmed Palinista.
Great post Pete. But facts are a Palin fan’s worst enemy.
(And I thought Obama was on point referring to Republicans as enemies. They sure the hell ain’t friends. He shouldn’t have walked it back.)
Please don’t use the words “Tea” and “Party” adjacently when referring to these people. The (Boston) Tea Party was a demonstration against taxation without representation. This group was allowed to vote for people who represented them in the last election — a “Tea Party” it is not.
Instead, call them “Tea People” or, if you feel insulting, “Re-DUMB-licans” (using hyphens and capitalization at your discretion). And if you choose the latter term, please remember that it does not refer to every member of the Republican Party, just those who identify with Palin and her ilk.
Thank you.
A conserv is using the word “ignorance” about someone else?
Aren’t you the same guys who repeated that Obama would be taking 34 WARSHIPS with him on to India? That’s colossal, Mount Everest sized ignorance.
Pete, I only repeated what you said. So now you don’t like your own talking points?? Oh, and talking about expenses – how many insurance premiums for families have been raised since Obamacare has been passed? And talk of a VAT tax as well? Sure, that will really cut down the national budget (sarcasm here, in case you don’t get it).
Jason – sock puppet of Pete’s? I think so.
1. The only people really talking about a VAT were Tea Party Candidates (Ken Buck saw a large lead evaporate in Colorado when he floated the 23% VAT). In 2001 when the Bush tax cuts were proposed, the CBO warned that the cuts would add several trillion dollars in debt and eradicate the budget surplus. The CBO was right, the Republicans were wrong.
2. Health insurance costs on average DOUBLED between 2001-2008. That’s an increase substantially more than the rate of inflation.
3. Fighting two wars with borrowed funds have cost over $1 Trillion EACH. That’s leaving out the costs of wounded and maimed soldiers’ long term medical costs, or the number of military families thrown into poverty by a disabled or deceased provider.
It’s no big, I mean after all Sarah Palin in her new book actually devotes time to kvetching about the 1999 movie American Beauty and the 1992 episode where Murphy Brown became a single mother. That’s some real thinksmanship on the part of Sarah…
Chris — Check out Barbara Bush’s recent comments about Sarah Palin on Larry King. It’s not just Liberals who are unimpressed.
Chris should also see the video of on-air people at Fox itself making fun of her. Whatever one may think of either political party, there is no doubt: by any objective measure whatsoever, Sarah Palin is an incredible, economy sized idiot.
Yep, sock puppet!
Dear @Amelia22
Have you read some of the brilliant tomes that Palin references in her new book, or do you just get your facts from TV?
Palin quotes Alexis de Tocqueville in “America by Heart.” de Tocqueville, a french intellectual from, actually, wait, why don’t you tell me what century he is from?
I challenge you to read “Democracy in America.” I don’t think you can do it. Prove me wrong.
Man, you really don’t like it when he hits you with facts. There’s a double lesson in the way the Fox anchors were skewering Palin with absolute contempt — FOX anchors! YOUR people! — and it is this: smart conservatives are completely aware that Palin is a rube, and the Fox people you so admire for being fair and balanced hold you and the salt-of-the-earth, working class hero tea partiers you represent in absolute disregard. All you are is dollar signs and ratings points. They throw meat to you like animals at the zoo.
Here’s the real tragedy, though: you see behind the curtain into what the people your think of as YOUR VOICE really think of your heroine, and who do you insult? A dude who shared facts on an internet message board. Because that’s a hell of a lot easier than looking in the mirror and realizing that you’ve been had, huh?
Anybody else hating WALKING DEAD as much as I am?
AMC needs to get its house in order.
AMCs house is just fine…Breaking Bad is still fantastic, same with Mad Men…The Walking Dead is performing very well and is getting people watching AMC who probably wouldn’t watch AMC on a normal basis
@Abe Ralph Roy Josh Doug Jamie Gunt: Only you and your 7 alter personalities, everybody else loves it. BTW there is this little thing called a remote control, CHANGE THE CHANNEL if you don’t like it, there’s about 300 other channels to choose from. I hear there is a new show about Alaska that needs more brainless viewers.
I kinda agree with you. I only watch it for the zombie scenes, which are very well shot; the effects, make-up, costumes…def think whoever is responsible should get some sort of award nominations because it has big budget film quality to it. The human parts are annoying but i guess necessary. I wasnt a big fan of the black guy last week getting the crap beaten out of him by the racist hick…they could of at least had him put up some sort of fight but oh well.
Needless to say, compared to most tv, i can tolerate this show.
With regard to the Sunday night showing (not any of the repeats), people making excuses for Carrie’s Mom are citing Sunday Night Football EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME THE PREVIOUS WEEK, and the American “Music” Awards, ALTHOUGH THIS YEAR’S EDITION OF THE SHOW HAD THE LOWEST RATING IN YEARS. (My finger hurts from holding down the’caps’ key).
It’s so sad to see fellow Americans disparage an exceptional all-American woman like Sarah Palin and her family. Does anyone doubt that Abigail Adams would be very much the same way were she alive today?
Exceptional, REALLY. Was Abigail Adams unable to name a single newspaper, magazine or book she reads. Did Abigail Adams explain how Alaska’s proximity to Russia gave her all the foreign policy experience she needed to become a Vice President. Did Abigail Adams mispronounce words and then compared herself to Shakespeare. Did Abigail Adams have to resign from her position as a Governor due to ethics investigations (Oooo yeah I went there, they didn’t tell you that on Fox News did they.)
So, NO, Abigail Adams would not be the same way as that brainless %#@$! Palin.
Oh, yes the All-American Palins. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the main reason her son is in the military is because if he hadn’t enlisted he would have been sent to prison, no? Who else can not help but be impressed at Bristol, the single mom with a GED without any apparent job skills or life accomplishments being foisted into a reality show dance competition. I personally wonder at the poor grammar and homophobia of Willow’s Facebook rants when not basking in her overarching and preening sense of entitlement (read the screencaps, not pretty)
Seriously, if Obama’s kids had the problems Palin’s kids do, then Rush/Hannity/Beck would be on a 24/7 telethon of outrage.
Its obvious but it has to be said: there’s Walking Dead and then there’s Palin’s show, Walking Brain Dead.
“Sarah, Vain and Small” is a national freak show and once the merely curious got satiated the ratings dropped to reveal her true core fan base: old Tea Party racists in motorized wheelchairs paid for by socialized medicine. That’s enough votes to get the Quitter elected dog catcher of Leisure World, but not enough to be Leader of the Free World.
Kevin Smith just made that film its called Red State.
Sarah Palin lovers of the world unite! Move to Alaska and leave the rest of us the hell alone! My mom raised five kids by herself (lost my father in Vietnam when he was 32 leaving Mom with five children under 8 years old.) We weren’t rich but none of her daughters got pregnant before marriage and didn’t deal drugs. She worked hard as a nurse her whole life and didn’t quit. She insisted that education was IMPORTANT and being stupid was not an option — obviously something the Palins don’t agree with. Sarah Palin and her family are an embarrassment and her adoring fans are even more of an embarrassment.
As predicted, this show is taking the same audience dive as The Jeff Dunham Show
I enjoyed Sarah Palin’s Alaska and plan on watching the whole series.
Another Mark Burnett sales job followed by failure (remember, Expedition on History, Starmaker on MTV, etc., Contender on NBC, etc., etc., etc.)…
All these haters from the left. Don’t like the show, simply don’t watch. Intolerant hypocrites. I will be watching every show …..along with millions of other Americans.”
Let me think, I believe that 3 million viewers are more viewers than CNN; Headline News: and MSNBC have in total.
@boboliver Get a grip. TLC is not cable news, you are comparing apples to oranges.
