CMT has picked up one of its highest-rated series, The Singing Bee, for a third season. The karaoke singing competition, from Juma Entertainment and the Gurin Co., is hosted by Melissa Peterman, who also toplines the network’s first scripted sitcom, Working Class, slated to premiere on Jan. 28. Singing Bee creator Gurin, who executive produces the series with Bob Horowitz, has signed with CAA. He was most recently at Octagon with John Ferriter who previously repped him at WMA. Gurin is also creator/executive producer of CMT’s Your Chance to Dance and has served as an executive producer on the Miss Universe and Miss USA shows on NBC for the past 8 years. His business manager is Alan Goldman.

Did Gurin decide to stay with Ferriter as manager though?
I see the mistake was corrected.
I watched original runs of “Reba” and a million reruns on Lifetime AND CW. Melissa really held her own on the show and she took a character who was hard to like on paper and made her one of the best all time sitcom side kicks. When the characters of Barbara Jean and Reba had to team up for various reason, they were sitcom magic together. I still hate the “NEW” CW kicked them to the curb in favor of “Everybody Loves Chris” and a YOUNGER demo.
Yeah for Melissa Peterman. So talented-so overlooked!
Gurin left WME with Ferriter awhile ago. No one cared then or now.
How is Ferriter doing at Octagon these days? He was one of the nicest agents I came across at WMA.
Good for Phil Gurin, he’s been tremendously under served by WME and Octagon.
How did Ari insult this one?
Phil is a weasel and a douche wrapped into one. He’s so insecure, he keeps hurting his own career by stiffling and then getting rid of all the talented people around him, just so he can feel better about himself when he’s sitting in his own office. He and Ferriter were so attached at the hip, I can’t imagine what could have possibly finally separated those two liars. They deserve each other.
Alos Gurin didn’t create Singing Bee, Horowitz did (not matter what credit Phil stole for himself).
Previous poster Greg is right — nobody cares… except people like me who are happy Phil has already made himself a has-been.
Phil owes everything to John. How else would the producer of two CMT shows be noteworthy at all? That’s all Phil produces. Does he even have the pagents on the next go around? I doubt it since Trump signed with WME…
He can enjoy being #37 on CAA’s list along iwth Howard Schultz, Renegade, Bischoff Hervey, BBC, 3 Ball, Syco, etc. . Both Phil and CAA were sold a bill of goods here…. no way he sees any action.
John & Phil worked well together for so many years. It’s too bad they couldn’t find a way to continue at Octagon. Loyalty?…
