The orange blimp promoting Conan O’Brien’s new late-night show on TBS hovered over Conan’s former stomping grounds at NBC Universal this afternoon. Here is a photo capturing the blimp as it flies above Burbank and Universal. Sources say the blimp was visible from the NBCU offices as well as the Burbank set where The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is taping. Conan goes against Leno and the rest of his late-night rivals tonight when he will kick in his second week on TBS.

Wow pull out all the stops, what a late night war! —yawn.
I literally can’t believe how much the incessant media blitz has turned me off to Conan. He was my guy. I think the world of him as a comic talent but come on!
You’re not a real fan, then are you? All new shows have plenty of advertising, particularly the shows on Turner networks. At least they’re creative.
Oh please. the endless media obsession with “Coco” goes way beyond “advertising.” It’s overkill plain and simple.
Maybe so, but that’s all it is, a media blitz. I think it’s pretty irrational to turn against the guy just because he’s the media’s subject of choice at the moment.
All of these late-night talk shows are dinosaurs. Conan could have used this new opportunity to do something truly unique, but chose the tried and true. Leno is not funny and Letterman is just plain tired.
That’s just… awesome! Bwahahahahaha! Screw Leno.
Easy people…Conan’s new show is in the same area. It has nothing to do with Universal/NBC/Jay Leno.
Sure it’s in the same relative area – and advertising- but there’s a reason why networks put billboards of competing new shows across the street from rival networks – egos. Look around town every September, I’m looking at you NBC and CBS = worst offenders for this type of in your face practice.
People, W is right. If you watched “Conan” last night, you would see that the Conan Blimp was specifically flying over the Warner Bros. Studio where “Conan” films so that Conan O’Brien could run out and greet it, etc. And yes, Warner Bros. is a stone’s throw from the NBC studio where Jay Leno tapes. No conspiracy or giant middle finger to NBC here – just coincidence. Sheesh.
Do you see that in the sky? No, it’s not a blimp; it’s a giant middle finger.
Conan has a ton of cash and his own show named after him. He should probably get over it and move on at this point.
Oh the humanity!
Conan’s show is just as tired as Leno’s/Letterman’s. He had the opportunity to do something fresh and new at TBS but instead went back to the lameness he’s been doing since 1993.
Down with Conan! I hope the blimp crashes on that red headed noggin!!! I love Jay! The best people on TV are Andrew Breitbart, Jay Leno, Glen Beck.
I guess the fact that you could hit Leno’s studio with a rock from Conan’s studio has nothing to do with this crazy move by Conan?
TBS will be counting the cost over time – remember the enormous marketing of conan’s move to tonight show….followed by precipitous fall off in ratings. History will repeat itself because Conan’s talents are poorly applied in this format. Conan’s an amazing writer and creator, but half the talent of Craig ferguson as a performer. He is a terrible listener and now he looks too worn and hard, lacks warmth and isn’t funny.
Move on everyone…
Is Conan STILL on? Looks like he’s employing the same lackluster bookings for early shows as he did at The Tonight Show.
It’s time for him to move on. There is real suffering in the world and he still can’t get over that he’s no longer hosting the Tonight Show because his ratings sucked. He got more money than most Americans will earn in 5 lifetimes and a show on TBS. Poor, poor Conan. Man up and move the fuck on!
In the year 2000: Conan will still be trying to capture what he once had.
Conan is just LOW CLASS and a poor sport. Concentrate on doing a good show and forget the bullshit.
If I had my way, the Conan show would be less like the Tonight Show, but, really, I think it’s fine, and maybe it’s more watchable over the long term than a more rebooted show would have been.
Really, if he’s going to do a neo-Tonight Show talk show, I wish he’d go all the way and try to bring back more of the guests that Johnny Carson used to interview. Go through Carson’s guests lists and simply invite on all the people on the lists who are physically and mentally able to come on a talk show.
since Conan tapes his show at Warner Bros. which is right next to NBC Burbank what’s the big deal?
he’s not even on at the same time on the west coast.
Jay will always be number ONE!
Who’s Conan O’Brien?
I happened to be in line for tonight show w/jay Leno at NBC studios when blame started circling the lot. I got a total kick out of it so did the rest of the audience in line.
Probably time to stop with the NBC jokes.
