Well, I am not rooting for it but….I think Conan will disappoint once the ratings settle in. Big tune in early but all those “Team Coco” fans just won’t tune in night after night. In the end, Conan ratings will be below Leno, Letterman and Kimmel….and possibly even below Fallon, despite the 11pm start. Watch Turner spin that like crazy. That said, TBS is still the perfect place for Conan as cable sub fees and advertising, not just advertising alone, will allow them to cover their costs and then some. Congrats to FOX for passing. A wise business decision. And for the rest of us, get ready to pay your TV provider more and more.
Conan, is only one who got fired for entertaining himself. At TBS, he will do same, but will not loose his jobs.
Welcome back Conan, and george we love you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tony almonte:
Of course the ratings on basic cable won’t be as high as on a network
ha ha already has!!! john stewart beat out leno!!!
Seriously, this thing is going to tank in two weeks. I heard they’re already drawing up plans to tear the studio down. We all know who should be hosting the show – our own Nikki Finke! With co-host/announcer Mike Fleming! And Nellie Andreeva & The Deadline Band! In other words – I’m Team Finko! Can’t wait.
I’m a big Conan fan, but I am worried. The internet clips have had no spark, no life. “Show Zero” was a big let-down, and could have been fun if it wasn’t so limply put together. No tension, no timing, no big punchline.
Conan’s “Tonight Show” seemed to suffer from a few problems. One of them looked to be “notes from the network,” that had Conan changing his monologue style (delivering the jokes with lots of “it’s true” and “have you heard this” comments, eliminating his string dance, the hissing, jumping – the fun stiff). The stage & audience was too big (a more intimate setting allows smaller things to be funny) and Andy wasn’t at the desk. Still hoping that, no matter what, Lopez gets the boot.
Re: Sorry
Supposedly, Conan largely ignored NBC’s notes. I read one report which claimed he once received a sheet of notes, balled it up, tossed it into the trash, and said, ‘I do what I do.’
On a side note, I really hope Conan loses the beard. Given everything that’s taken place, I think the beard makes him look ‘dramatic’ instead of ‘funny.’
One reason comedy is so lousy these days is because there’s way too much air time to fill, so they create shows for mediocre talents like George Lopez. In Olden Times, you had three networks who needed to fill 4 hours a night — 28 hours max. It;s like MLB — every time they create a new tieam, it thins out the pitching talent even further, because there just isn’t an infinite amount of great pitching talent out there. It’s the same with performing talent — it’s rare!
