Crash actress Arlene Tur is joining the upcoming fourth season of Torchwood as a recurring. The news comes as producers of the British-born cult hit continue their exhaustive search for two new series regulars to join franchise vets John Barrowman and Eve Myles. Enver Gjokai (Dollhouse) and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) had been circling the male role – a sharp-as-nails, funny-as-hell, tough-as-rawhide CIA agent — but producers ultimately deemed neither to be a good fit. (I’m told a feeler was also put out to James Wolk, the breakout star of Fox’s short-lived Lone Star, but he passed.) Greek’s Amber Stevens, meanwhile, had been circling the female part — a CIA Watch Analyst who possesses an unshakable faith in human nature. Tur will play a surgeon by the name of Vera Juarez. Starz recently nabbed domestic rights to the show’s fourth season in a co-production deal with BBC Worldwide Prods. Michael Ausiello will be contributing to Deadline.com and Movieline.com as he preps for the early ‘11 launch of a new TV-centric website.

Sorry, but without Ianto I could care less about “Torchwood” news. I’m not interested in watching “The Jack and Gwen Show.” Blech.
Then I guess its a good thing that they’re casting new characters?
Why should we care for the new characters when we weren’t finished knowing the previous ones?
But why should we care about the new characters when we weren’t finished knowing the previous ones?
Since we have to forget, move on and get over certain characters, I don’t see the point in getting invested in new faces.
Aw c’mon, that’s not the attitude. I loved Owen and Toshiko and Ianto aswell, but new faces will be good I’m sure. Look at Joss Whedons shows, how many time did characters die/leave in that and get replaced by others? Spike was better than Angel ever was, y’never know they might just be great
If you watched Dr. Who, you’d know they went through a couple of actors and they are bringing it back this spring.. It lives on!! If the writing remains the same, or better, the characters will grow on us. It may bring on more fans, and allow for a long lifespan for the show.
Captain Jack is an offshoot from Dr. Who. In my opinion, the BEST Dr. Who was David Tennant. If they wanted to put Torchwood over the top, they’d bring Tennant onto the Torchwood regulars. He is a an extemely good actor. However they cast him, he and Captain Jack could take this new series off the charts.
*reads comment*
How can you care less when you commented?
Yeah I really wish they did do what they did with Ianto. BUT I am still interested to see how they pull off this season. Now with Jane Epenson as a writer. but It really should have just ended with COE.
I think you mean you couldn’t care less. By saying you could care less you are actually saying that you do care, at least a little.
Amen. Unless I see a spoiler saying “Hey look super Resurrection Glove brings everyone back”, I’m entirely unexcited.
I read that Ianto will play a role (of some type) in the new Torchwood. The best part of SyFy is that they can do anything… including bringing people back from the dead.
Enver Gjokai is fantastic, it is a shame he is not going to be a part of Torchwood.
Damn. Don’t watch Torchwood, but would have been a great opportunity for Enver.
Ok I love Cap. Jack, but Gwen pisses me off. Though I love Rhys. I might try to watch the new US Torchwood for Jack but I don’t think it’ll be as good without Ianto. Why can’t you people get that we miss Ianto and Owen? Kill Gwen bring back Ianto & Owen & we will be happy fans.
KILL GWEN! HOW DARE YOU! I love her. I’m with you on bringing back Ianto & or Owen, but I actually would like Tosh to come back the most.
Enver would have been fantastic. They are idiots to have let him slip away.
They passed on Enver?! That is a real shame. That man is ridiculously talented.
RTD seems to have an aversion to talented actors. They got rid of the 3 best actors on the show in the form of Gareth David-Lloyd, Naoko Mori and Burn Gorman, leaving us with Eve and John (who are substandard tv actors at best). Why should this new series be any different. I’m sure he’d cast Justin Beiber if he was available…..
As grand as the scope will be for the new season, I hope it will still be as great as it was.
I agree with Tracy about Ianto but Carter MacIntyre from Undercovers might be a good fit.
@Tracy: One could point out that it’s a bit strange for you to comment about a story about which you “could care less”.
In any event, I’m a bit disappointed to hear that Enver Gjokai has been passed over – I have definitely appreciated the work I’ve seen.
As for Ms. Tur, I wish her the best it her new role. I hope the series does well over here across the Pond, though I am a bit hesitant to watch this new season (or whatever they’re calling it) given the high probability for excessive sex, violence, and profanity.
Cool, can’t wait for more Jack!
The Torchwood opener addresses the Ianto issue.
unless they’re adressing it by bringing him back to life, none of the people who are never going to watch the show again because he was killed off will care. period.
Afraid Enver would steal the show, are they?
hmmm…i wonder which of them would look better making out with captain jack
ps- can’t wait for your new website to come out, i think i’ve reached the end of the internet
Actually, not reading and commenting on this WOULD be caring less. I do care, but haven’t seen Tur in anything so far. It’s good to see S4 take shape though.
blah, blah, BLAH!!!!! you guys can get in a hissy about all that other stuff, but can I kindly interject to address the elephant in the room?
Arlene Tur is super cute!!! G-d damn!
While I liked Ianto, resurrecting him would destroy the meaning of any dramatic event in the whole show, past and future. A trusted team member killing and getting killed in the first episode should have given you a clue of what to expect.
No. What will destroy the meaning of any dramatic moment in the whole show will be the remaining characters forgetting anyone who died and anything that happened and just moving on happily.
And be honest, we all know that’s exactly how things will be, as RTD says that. So Ianto’s death, Stephen’s death, Owen and Tosh, all will be forgotten, like they never existed, and this in the name of ‘moving on’.
So, what’s the point?
The death of all those characters will mean nothing, as there will be no consequences, and therefore the drama will mean nothing at all.
Yay more Torchwood–Ianto, god just get through that storyline.. and move on
how could they pass on enver?! DUMB
I want Ianto back. Thank god Chad MIchael Murray was found wrong for the role! I really am not interested in the Gwen and Jack show either, will Kai Owen be around playing Rhys?
Kai has signed onto the show, so he’ll be there with Gwen. He was brilliant in Children of Earth so looking forward to seeing him spread his wings more.
As for Ianto – meh. He’s dead and a wee bit decayed at the moment, so not worth thinking about.
Wow, the Ianto whiners really need to stop and listen to how silly, petulant and childish they sound.
It’s an adult drama. Characters die. The fictional world moves on. Deal with it. If you really don’t care anymore, stop reading posts about the show and go do something else.
Thank God none of you people are fans of Spooks. You’d still be whining about Matthew MacFayden 6 seasons after he left.
Actually Lynn, I’m a HUGE fan of Spooks but also a Ianto fan. The main difference is HOW Spooks kills off its characters. They die for a reason, it’s done within the confines of superb acting and scripting, and the other characters grieve for their loses.
We got NONE of that with Ianto’s death. It was a schlocky 2nd rate script re-written to encompass the Torchwood cast, Ianto’s death added nothing to the storyline, Jack forgot about his co-called partner within the blink of an eye, and we were ridiculed by RTD afterwards for daring to care about a character he himself created.
Spooks would never do that do its characters or its fans. It’s like comparing apples to oranges, in my opinion.
Your ‘adult drama’ is still a commercial product in the end. Not a smart move to piss viewers off. And that’s exactly what the writers and producers of the show have done.
And as you say it’s a fictional world. A sci-fi world. Bringing back a character that’s loved and wanted by a large part of the audience (not to mention the brilliant actor who portrays him and all his fans following) wouldn’t hurt the show in the least.
And I can tell you that I am still seriously pissed off and not about to “get over it”….
James Wolk, of the quickly cancelled Lone Star, passed?
– SPOILER ALERT!-@Lynn – LOL! You are so right about the fact Spooks would have driven everyone who despises favorite characters getting killed, mad! I read a response somewhere in a chat room regarding the proposed remake of Spooks American-style which indicated the American audience and Studios might not appreciate the conceit of “main characters dropping like flies” at any moment, because it wouldn’t play well over here as it does across the pond.
I mean, when you watch Spooks you’re not even sure if a member of the team will survive the EPISODE! I went to sleep and Matthew McFayden was in charge and awoke to discover Rupert Penry-Jones was the new team leader. Not to mention that the character of “Ben Kaplan” played by Alex Lanipekun had his throat cut so fast it made my head spin. I was all hot and bothered for him and enjoyed his burgeoning relationship with Miranda Raison’s character “Joe Portman” when POOF! — he was a dead man. As I contine to watch Spooks I’ve learned to adjust and brace myself for any number of characters’ ultimate demise.
Michael Muhney would be great for Torchwood. His Sheriff Don Lamb on “Veronica Mars” was terrific. Great looks and snark too boot.
Saffron Burrows would be a great fit for Torchwood. Versatile and has an air of being cool. Loved her opposite James Spader on BOSTON LEGAL.
So anyone wanna take bets on who’s gonna die next! It won’t be Gwen, that’s for sure! I have no desire to watch the Jack ‘n Gwen show!
I am in to take bets! So when will the lovely Arlen be killed in order to make good drama?
Because, remember, people die young in Torchwood (except Gwen, keep this in mind futur viewer)…

Too bad Enver Gjokai won’t be part of this… He’s just so brilliant!
Also I hope we’ll be seeing more of Cpt John Hart (James Marsters)… but the rumours I’m hearing says this isn’t happening. Shame.
These 2 actors would guarantee my viewership!
