Another reality star has been recruited by CNN to host a prime-time talk show. Dr. Drew Pinsky has signed a deal for a new weeknight prime-time show on CNN’s sister channel HLN, which will launch next spring. HLN, formerly CNN Headline News, has a vacancy at 10 PM where it currently airs a rerun of Nancy Grace’s 8 p.m. show. Pinsky hosts Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew on VH1 and has also headlined other reality series dealing with addiction. Pinsky’s appointment follows CNN’s recent hire of America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan to succeed Larry King at 9 PM.

I have so much respect for this guy. He’s a real doctor that actually knows what he’s talking about.
Good for drew but I can’t watch HLN because they pay Nancy Grace to be hateful on TV.
Hmm.. I certainly hope this does not mean the end of Loveline!
The Doc is a very busy guy!
Dr. Drew used to be a great resource to youths in need but ever since his daughters hit puberty/Adam Carolla left the show he has become increasingly right wing.
He now regularly espouses that anyone involved in any “kink” behavior is somehow damaged and wrong. His out and out disgust with any non-vanilla sexuality is a horrible influence on young people whom he is teaching to be ashamed of their sexuality.
He regularly cites completely inaccurate data regarding the dangers of anal sex and when a caller asks for advice on trying the act he recommends that she get drunk first(!) not only is this unsafe because it causes that area of the body to be more susceptible to bleeding, it also disallows a person from being in complete control of the act. I think it is almost malpractice for a doctor to recommend drunk sex.
What’s more, the show has become homophobic. In addition to his open disgust with/inaccurate science on anal sex, he will regularly dismisses even the concept of a bisexual male. Any male who has ever had any sexual contact with any other male is automatically gay. Women can be bisexual, but not men. And this is played for laughs. Taken into context with his thoughts that all anal sex practices are unsafe and damaging and degrading, it’s hard to read it as anything but anti-gay rhetoric in a clever disguise.
He has also spoken as a keynote lecturer for pseudo-feminist groups that carry the mission of pushing the idea that casual sex in college is the root cause of divorce and that if you exist in anything but a heteronormative, monogamous relationship with only one lifetime partner you will have ruined your brains ability to form deeper intimacy.
And these are just the things I picked up in listening to the show for 2 weeks recently.
What will the show be like? Is there a certain theme…or will he have guests on and just have various topics and conversations?

I love Dr. Drew’s show on HLN! ! ! Very intelligent person…not to mention I was born Sept. 4th(79)….Dr. Drew is probably one of my favorite talk show hosts…he is such a fair person..he really does care about people and it shows.
Dr. Drew HLN monopolizes the show, controls his speakers – cuts them off when they are speaking from knowledge and experience. His agenda is to be in the control, to be the center of attention. He is not always the ultimate authority, but he interrupts his guests as if he is. He is an attention seeker, and makes himself look very insecure. He is impulsive. As an educated MD, why does he not listen, digest and provide his own editorial? Instead, he stops people in the middle of a sentence, has no sensitivity to the rhythm of the English language nor to news reporting. As a licensed therapist i just can’t respect him nor watch him. PLEASE teach him or remove his show.
additionally, he is histrionic (a drama queen…with his hand over his heart with Natalie Halloway’s mother. He was like a Mike Myers skit – his feigned overwhelm was nauseating. Really, i couldn’t watch him, but i did for a while because he is unreal. what a yenta.
Trying to find info about episode (when it aired & how I can review it) that discussed brain damage by battering/abuse to young chilreb & can cause severe personality disorders in adults. This show probably aired in the last 6 weeks. Any information would be appreciated.
