Sony Pictures will make the announcement tomorrow. Former Miramax and Paramount exec Michelle Raimo (Kouyate) has been recently producing the animated feature film Puss In Boots off the DreamWorks Animation Shrek franchise, with Chris Miller directing. Raimo began her career in the film business 13 years ago when she joined Miramax Films. From 1995 to 2005, she rose through the development and production ranks from an assistant to a SVP of Development and Production. During her tenure at the studio, Michelle was responsible for exec producing and overseeing numerous projects including the Academy Award-nominated Chocolat, as well as The Shipping News, Ella Enchanted, The Great Raid and An Unfinished Life. While at Miramax, Raimos helped start its book- and Talk magazine-based development.
In 2005, she relocated from New York to Los Angeles to serve as SVP of Production at Paramount Pictures where she was responsible for overseeing producer accounts including Nickelodeon, MTV Films, Lynda Obst Productions, and Foxxhole (Jamie Foxx’s production company). During her time at the studio, she worked on DreamWorks’ Dreamgirls, Nickelodeon’s The Spiderwicke Chronicles and Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging. In early 2006, she moved over to Nickelodeon Movies in the same capacity until the end of 2006.

Congratulations!
Good Luck Sony! She is the worst producer ever …
Congratulations on such an amazing hire!!! I had such great hopes for SPA’s future, but hiring mediocrity only solidified it’s legacy. To all the amazingly talented artist you’ve been forewarned for we “over here” have had the pleasure of basking in her incompetence as a producer, but I guess that is what’s going to makes her an excellent executive!!! Congrats…she exemplifies “failing upward.”
Wow, Steven, HATE much? And to every other hater in this thread, Raimo is one of the smartest, principled, most creative, devoted, incisive people I know. Her commitment to narrative, character, and development is superlative. And the comment about her not working well with women? I find that impossible to believe and have to question your ability to work with a woman who is smart and strong. Congrats, Michelle, well deserved.
Michelle is probably the smartest exec around, this is simply fantastic for her, for Sony, and for all involved. No one is better when it comes to story, this is an excellent move.
so impressed. such an inspired hire. love it when studios hire live action people to run animation studios — then are surprised when the budgets balloon to 150-200 million a picture
It is time to update your portfolio guys!
I found Michelle to be fairly limited, cold and a true company person in all matters. No guts. She doesn’t get along with other women. Although she was distant but polite with me she was not great with my team that included women. It was cliche. Out of her depth when I worked with her. Sort of surprised she stayed in the business as she seems to have no passion to her film taste. No love of story or the art .
Wow Kyle, bitter much? I’ve heard much worse said about you.
Wow, Kyle, really?! I only worked with her once, on a project that never came to fruition (It was at Miramax, imagine that), but I found her to be just the opposite of all you said. She was sharp, warm, passionate about story, and fought hard to try and get our film though the system. It was early in my career, and she set the bar pretty high for development execs to come. Sony is lucky to have her.
What?? Weird. My experience was the exact opposite with her. I worked on an animated project with her and she was all about the story and art- not about making the studio happy. Priorities all in the right place in my opinion. AND everyone loved her- she’s all passion for emotional/well told stories. What a coup for Sony! Makes me excited about what’s to come from there.
Uuuh, what has she done since 2006? 4 years of what? Seems like a strange choice. Seems like she failed at Nick, no?
Huuuuge congrats to a smart executive and terrific person! The position is well deserved and Sony should be proud to have her on board. Mazel-Tov from NYC!

Congratulations, you deserve it!
Why wasn’t Nate Hopper named prez. Makes no semse. She is a safe choice. Totally uninspired choice. Katzenberg is going to be able to sleep worrying about how Michelle Raimo is starting an animation hit machine at Sony.
Should have hired Nate. Smart guy. Personable. Political. Paid his dues at Sony. Why oh why would you pass him by?
Maybe cause you self promote too much Nate.
I second that. Why wouldn’t they give the job to Nate? He’s been passed up twice now for that job. WTF?
Good for Raimo. What a smart smart woman. Great experience in this field. Smart for Sony.
I’ve known Michele professional for 15 years and she’s smart, hard-working and honest and will do a killer job at Sony! Smart hire.
Anyone who has projects at SPA was sorry to see Hannah go. But this makes up for it. Michelle is creative, smart and genuine. Perfect choice, congrats to all.
What happened to Hannah M. Anyone know?
@jesse: Hannah was made president of production at the studio..need to read your Nikki archives, dude.(Oct 29):)
How sad. Sony tries and tries with animation, yet continues to hire no nothings to run the place. How about hiring someone with a creative bone in their body?
Michelle Raimo is nothing but a middle management “no” person, lacking the imagination and drive to run an animation production.
How sad.
Hey Kyle, is Scott your new name? I still think Bitter Betty works better for you.
Here’s a woman’s perspective and one that’s working with her NOW. She’s passionate about story and art, a great mentor and leader and has a heart of gold.
I’m going to miss her. I was hoping to work with her on future projects.
Kyle, As Michelle’s father I’m most certain you have no knowledge of the woman that I have known all my life. Congratulations baby.
Way to tell him Dad! Michelle is more than qualified for this spot, and bitterness from people like Kyle is nothing more than sour grapes. You just give them a Brooklyn beat down & move on!
I know Michelle to be a caring, passionate and extremely hard working individual who deserves this. Congratulations to you Michelle!
p.s. Kyle, maybe you should change your name to Bitter Betty; that’s what everyone calls you anyway.
@ Kyle, I agree with David. Michelle is incredible. I have known her for years and she is bright and talented and a pleasure to work with! Congrats, Michelle!
I’ve worked with execs at every studio and Michelle is truly among the most creative and committed. She fixed and worked to fix many a borderline project of mine to keep it going, inspired me, and always told me the true status of my projects. Can’t do better than that. I;m a woman as well, and no one has more women allies than Michelle. Yeah Sony!
I don’t know Michelle, but I really hope she has a different attitude towards animation than Bob. Some people are making animated films because they love the art form; not because they are “working their way up to the opportunity to make live action films.”
Hey Kyle/David, did she pass on one of your crap projects? Go take some screenwriting classes or seminars, or whatever you failed creative people do to compensate for lack of ability.
Congrats again Michelle! Knock em’ dead!

Regarding all the previous negative comments:
You know what they say: You reap what you sow. Michelle sowed a lot of bitter seeds at DreamWorks Animation, and now she’s reaping the bitter harvest she deserves…at least here on this comment page, at the hands her detractors.
I for one wish her luck. I can only hope she learned a few lessons at DW…but I sincerely doubt it.
Wow!!! It’s amazing how many jealous and insecure people there are out there. I had always heard about people that were envious of those who made it to the top..so much that they were bitter abt the successes they witnessed. Now I get to see it in action..pretty scary..and sad. Congrats Michelle!! You deserve every win!
Amazing how some people rise in this industry without having the resume or the qualifications.
I’d love to see an animator get hired to become the head of a live action studio. Never happen.
It would seem that animation is just so easy just about anyone can jump into the drivers seat.

Congratulations Michelle
Very well deserved. Raimo is one of the best and SONY is smart to get her.
