EXCLUSIVE: In a deal that’s high six-figure against 7-figures, Fox 2000 has acquired Pure, the first of a three-novel series by Julianna Baggott. The film will be produced by Karen Rosenfelt, who is one of the producers on the Twilight Saga series and whose Fox 2000 projects include The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me. The book created wild buzz this week, and last night, it looked like DreamWorks was going to get it. By this morning, Elizabeth Gabler’s Fox 2000 took it off the table this morning by buying all three books. Fox 2000 exec Rodney Ferrell brought it in. I’m told that Pure is a dystopic tale about an apocalyptic event that creates two classes of people. The underclass consists of those who were scarred, and the “Pures” are those who were untouched and live separate from the others. The movie deal occurs before an auction for publishing rights that has been scheduled for Tuesday by New York-based lit agent Nat Sobel. Manager Justin Manask, who handled the film deal with attorney Marcy Morris, distributed watermarked copies of the script to 6 producers earlier this week. Reaction to the manuscript was strong. Baggot wrote The Anybodies and co-authored Which Brings Me To You, which is being turned into an Anonymous Content-produced feature scripted by Keith Bunin, with Suzanne Bier set to direct.

That book is dark, convoluted and will never work as a movie. But hey, young adult post-apocalyptic is hot in the age of Hunger Games, right?
Sour grapes #4, er uh #5?
Both are producers and both are wonderful.
Who is going to play Sylvester McMonkey McBean?
The premise sounds a lot like the H.G. Wells’ “The Time Machine.” I’m intrigued.
Karen Rosenfelt is the hardest working producer in town. Her phenomenal success since Brad Grey let her go has not surprised anyone who worked with her as an executive. The Twilight franchise would never have happened without her, and with the exception of Percey Jackson, every movie she’s produced has grossed over $100M domestically. What studio has that track record. Under her watchful care, Pure will not only get made, but it will be a hit!
Congratulations to Julianna Baggott. I’ve read two of the authors books, “Ever Breath” and “The Prince of Fenway Park” and loved both of them.
Now I just wish Pure was coming out in 2011. Of course I am refering to the book. I always read it before I see it.
I’ve been dying to read this book, I just got my hands on it. While the world would make for fantastic visuals in a movie, there isnt really much of a compelling plot here. It’s very much like Matched by Ally Condie, because the story is frankly very boring.
A kid looking for a house that was destroyed by nuclear bomb? A girl trying to escape her society?
Reading about this deal, I expected a ground breaking work, especially after the author compared herself to some of the best fiction writers of the past twenty years.
