EXCLUSIVE: In a rare venturing into multi-camera comedy, Fox is developing a half-hour project starring comedian Owen Benjamin and written by comedy veteran Marsh McCall. Benjamin and McCall co-created the ABC Studios-produced sitcom, which stars Benjamin as a question-everything high school counselor balancing bachelorhood and his eccentric family. McCall executive produces the untitled project with producer Bill Haber, former agent and CAA co-founder, as well as Peter Principato, Paul Young and Joel Zadak. Benjamin, repped by CAA and Prinicpato Young, co-starred in The House Bunny and was a regular correspondent on The Jay Leno Show. He recently filmed a small role in the Adam Sandler movie Jack and Jill and was part of Vince Vaughn and Kevin James’ sold-out comedy tour.

This sounds a lot like my spec pilot, Guy Dance Counselor, about a quirky high school counselor named Guy Dance. I really hope this one turns out different (for example, gets produced!), but if the lead crosses swords with the teachers and bonds with the students, I’m going to be pretty miffed.
A tall order. No interest here.
Let’s hear it for the Big Guy!
I’ve met Owen. He’s a nice enough guy, an okay comic at best, and a terrible actor. Why anyone would anchor a show around him is beyond me.
I would almost wonder if Fox defaulted to multi-cam simply because the bar is so much lower for believable acting in that format.
It’s nice to see someone connected to The Jay Leno show try something different – like comedy.
Looking forward to it. Owen is hilarious, and Marsh in known to write the snappiest bon mots in the business.
Agree with Naysayer.
Owen is friendly. He’s an awful comic, not really even a comic. Cannot act at all. Is this another example of the new mediocre world where hype is great, average is good and suck is fair?
Sounds like a mess…Just saying.
Owen is very funny. And he will do well on a show with “kids”.
Fox will have another show on it’s hands!
Owen Benjamin is a treasure..a gifted comic, fine actor, stand-up comedian, producer, director and writer. Very few people in Hollywood can do all of that and do it as well as Benjamin does.
