EXCLUSIVE: Last season’s Fox comedy pilot Breaking In may make it to the air after all. I hear the network is in negotiations with Sony Pictures TV to pick up the project starring Christian Slater to series for midseason. The single-camera workplace comedy set at a digital security firm, is rumored as a possible replacement for underperforming fall comedy Running Wilde, which has not received a back order. Fox’s midseason schedule announced in May has Running Wilde airing after American Idol‘s 90-minute performance show on Tuesday, sharing the 9:30 PM slot with midseason comedy Mixed Signals.
Hope for the Sony TV/Happy Madison-produced Breaking In never faded away. The pilot, written by Adam F. Goldberg and directed by Seth Gordon, had buzz and tested very well but ultimately missed the cut for a series pickup at Fox in May. In June, the network gave it a new lease of life with an order for 2 additional scripts, leading to Sony TV’s decision to extend the options on the cast, which is led by Slater and also includes Reaper star Bret Harrison.

Smartest decision to come out of Fox in a year. This was on the schedule in May until suddenly the day before upfronts it wasn’t, for no reason. Smart smart smart.

I like the rest of America don’t want to watch a TV show with someone who looks like that. Christian Slater last shows didn’t work for a reason, no one wants to watch some creepy looking guy.
I’m actually looking forward to this. Maybe it makes me less of a man, but I dig Slater. Nostalgic. Heard good things about this.
I was always partial to Zach, but mainly because he was always around Kelly.
Jeez, I rarely comment on stuff like this, but this picture is awful, typical bad case of plastic surgery. Too much botox and hair plugs.
But this is one of the worst pilots I have ever seen. Nobody will ever watch this show. It is a waste of money to pick up this show. Christian Slater isn’t helping anything either.
What didn’t you like about it? This was among the strongest of the year and Fox’s highest testing pilot.
what didn’t I like? everything. terrible writing. not funny. bad casting. slater is washed up. harrison brings nothing to the table. bad storytelling. and it didn’t even look good. you clearly have an allegiance to the show. it was not fox’s highest tested pilot. that’s just a lie. if it were it would have been on the fall schedule. and let’s say it was the highest testing pilot at fox, jimmy smits in outlaw tested through the roof. testing means nothing.
Script was great.

One of the best comedy pilots to come out of Fox in a long time. Doesn’t even compare to Running Wilde, which they should NOT have picked up. Smart move by Fox for sticking with Breaking In!
