The Simpsons will cross the 500 episode mark with a 23rd season at Fox, which will bring the number of episodes of the animated series to 515. “Like many 22-year-olds, The Simpsons is extremely happy remaining at home, on Fox, and hopes it doesn’t have to go out into the real world for many years to come,” said The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean. In addition to running for 22 years, The Simpsons also spawned an animated feature, which will have its broadcast premiere on Fox on Thanksgiving night.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE cancel “The Simpsons”.
It hasn’t been funny or original since about 1992.
As a former fan of what was originally the funniest show on television, any fond remembrance of that original comedy has long since been destroyed by 20 years of crap, produced solely for profit.
Why not just stop watching it?
Then it’s like it’s been canceled — just for you!
Amen, brother.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE crawl back to Valley Village and die. The Simpsons still rule and I’ll take even their most mediocre episode over another reality show.
With all the money that Fox makes off of The Simpsons it is surprising this was only for 1 season instead of the usual 2-3 season renewals they have given the show in the past. At least their was no potential strike by the actors to get this renewal like there was in the past.
oh my god. is it ever going to end? this show stopped being funny and relevant a decade ago
Which is probably the last time you watched it you ill-informed turd.
Gary Coleman ain’t got nothing on Maggie.
It’s not going to end until one of the cast members dies more than likely. It’s an animated show, it’s not like its characters have to age and go away.
Was really happy to see Bob Odenkirk back writing for Simpsons on the after Haloween episode (screw fox for pushing 4 haloween episodes for a crappy world series) I assume that’s why it was funny again when the show and especially the haloween episodes have been less than entertaining.
Are you guys serious? “No! Cancel it!” Like you’re being forced to watch. Change the channel and let the people that like it enjoy the show. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean all of the people involved should lose their jobs and all of the viewers should lose something they enjoy solely for the reason that you don’t know how to change a channel.
Yeah, previous fans have to realize its a business decision; the show must pull in serious coin. Though it is too bad the show will be remembered more as a volume show like (Wheel of Fortune or General Hospital) than a smart show like (Frasier or Seinfeld) had it ended 10-15 years ago.
The Simpsons has become a show that really put FOX on the map, and along with Cops and America’s Most Wanted, it’s a show from 1989-90 that the network does not want to let go of.
But I do think Fox should let the show end at a certain date. I personally don’t think The Simpsons have been funny since 2001, and when The Gospel According to The Simpsons book came out. It seems like it would rather attract the current fan base who are only into the newer episodes as opposed to the older ones, kind of similar to Saturday Night Live.
It’s still a decent show, but come on, put something new in that slot. Everyone knows it’s time to end this thing. It’s such a disgusting waste of money for a half hour of television.
Plus, do we really need to give nancy Cartwright another 22 million to donate to the Church of Scientology? No, no we don’t.
Waste of money? Do you have any idea how much money FOX makes from syndication in the U.S. and abroad with this show? While the current quality of the show is debatable, FOX is first and foremost a business. It’s a virtual no-brainer for them to renew a show that is basically guaranteed to make them millions of dollars in profits for many years to come. From a strictly business standpoint, canceling it would be idiotic.
Why would they cancel a show that is profitable? Stop thinking creatively for a second. Why cancel a show that continues to turn a profit? Law & Order became more expensive over the years. Including all the territories, the Simpsons is a multi-billion dollar property with many revenue streams.
The show will end when Groening and company pull the plug or until the ratings sink into an abyss. This show still does great numbers.
But don’t they have Family Guy?
The Simpson’s have figured out a way to stay current with the world events and keep us laughing and innocent in many ways. I love the show and can’t wait for the new season to start.
If you want to pick on shows that have run their course, how about Saturday Night Live? It stopped being funny a long time ago. But you know what I did? I turned the channel and stopped watching it.
It’s true, if you don’t want to watch it, you don’t have to, but I think the argument for canceling it is to maintain its integrity as a truly great show. It hasn’t been fresh or funny in many seasons. It’s like watching Jordan at the end of his career the once greatest player in the game getting dunked on by no names. You can’t help but think better to go out with some dignity than milk this thing to the bone.
When was the last time you watched it? Honestly
All these people who are saying the simpsons hasn’t been funny for years probably haven’t watched it when it had a lull back in the early 2000s. It’s actually been pretty good since going HD. And I attribute the dropoff more to the fact that people that were fans on this growing up did just that – they grew up.
The Simpsons are still funny, and I’ve very glad they get to pass 500 episodes.
Agreed, they have not been watching!
Ten years ago Al Jean took a subversive national treasure and turned it into a toothless gravy train. I guess all you Mike Scully haters got what you deserved.
Yep. Al Jean killed Simpsons and has been kicking it’s corpse all the way to the bank ever since.
Who cares if the show still makes money, it’s now known as a show that hasn’t been good in over 10 years. Have some respect and kill it. And yes that goes for SNL as well.
It’s Bill Odenkirk not Bob.
Homer, as he hits a stuatue of a deer with his car: Doh!
Lisa from the back seat: A deer!
Marge from the passenger seat: A female deer!
It’s still funny, but people in Hollywood don’t know how to laugh unless a business rival has died.
God, when I think of all the shows, good and bad that have come and gone since it began. “Home Improvement”, “Friends” and “Everybody Loves Raymound” (to name 3) have come and gone while “The Simpsons” was already on the air and are now classics.
Glad to see this will be around for at least a little while longer. Any show that hangs around this long (such as SNL) invariably garners many haters, saying “its not as good as it used to be”. And who is?
The Simpsons has gone through highs and lows like any other long-running show. Yet, even in the low periods there are flashes of brilliance that remind us why we are watching. Sometimes there just needs to be more of those flashes.
If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say by year 25 the showrunners at The Simpsons may be ready to move one to other things. That would give it an unprecedented run, maybe on any network in any country.
Few of us are as good as we used to be. For those haters, simply stop watching – there’s no one putting a gun to your head to watch The Simpsons (well, maybe Rupert Murdoch is). There are plenty of other animated sarcastic series on – mostly from Seth Macfarlane.
There are still many viewers love and enjoys The Simpsons, therefore, it will not get to its 500 plus episodes if still haven’t watched by many.
As Lenny Bruce said, “Be a man. Sell out.”
If and when it’s cancelled the very people who are asking for it to be cut will be the one feeling nostalgic. Simpsons might not be same funny as before but most definitely a lot better than most of the garbage on the Telly presently. The syndication is so strong that we won’t even feel it’s cancelled- it’s everywhere. So lets just ask the nice people (haha) at fox to make it more funny rather than cancel.
The problem with all you people bitching about the show not being funny is that you HAVEN’T WATCHED IT recently. Last year had some great moments and the real fans of the show know it…
The rest of you, I repeat, are pathetic armchair marketers who don’t actually care about art or film. You care about making the best snarky comment you can because you’re so horribly inept as a human that this is the only satisfaction you get in life…
Yes, the Simpsons have come a long way since an old drunk made humans out of his rabbit characters to pay off his gambling debts. Who knows what adventures they’ll have between now and when the show becomes unprofitable?
Don’t hate something you once loved. After 22 years, would you hate your spouse? Okay, bad analogy. The Simpsons still has moments of greatness. Long live The Simpsons!!!
Hasn’t been funny for years? I guess you guys have your own definition of funny but why kill it for many of us who do? Maybe you think Jersey Shore and those so-called Real Housewives are great television. It may not be up to your funny standard (or you just don’t have good taste) but asking it to be canceled because there are other good shows out there is absurd. It not just makes money, it attracts high ratings too. So I guess the few dozens of you can just bitch out.
It has been always funny and if you don’t think it is,that’s also funny.
