Gwyneth Paltrow held her own alongside Huey Lewis when they sang the Smokey Robinson tune Cruisin’ in Duets, the 2000 karaoke film directed by her father, Bruce Paltrow. But she really stepped it up last night at the Country Music Association Awards. Backed by Vince Gill, she sang Country Strong, the title tune to her upcoming movie. Somebody put this girl in a movie musical.

Sweet Jesus. Make it stop.
Agree. Sucks she performed on the show because there are thousands & thousands of talented, hard working and much more deserving country singers / bands out there who are much more deserving of a prime spot that show. Think what that exposure could have for a struggling performer and their career.Instead the time went to a pampered multi-millionaire actor who is in constant need of ego boosting. Hubby’s band got where they are because of years and years of hard work & playing shitholes & dives. Paltrow should take note of that. I’m sure she had her ass kissed all night long & will probably be a guest judge on Idol, play Lilith and put out a CD. Worst part – she got a standing ovation – for what? Other true country stars didn’t get a standing O, but Goopy chick does??? I’m guessing she will be soon singing out of key on Conan, Fallon & cranky Dave’s.
GOD!!She has a great voice!!!!Put her in a musical movie!!!She is so great!Love her voice!Congrats!!
Vince Gill is a class act. The guy is really humble and low key. A close friend has worked with him several times and says he’s about as down to earth as you can get. He spent a lot of time helping Gwyneth get over her fears of singing live at the show.
Great job across the board.
Seriously she was great! I know people hate her b/c she comes across perfect but she has backed it up this time. Can’t wait for Glee!
People hate her because she’s super-privileged and really condescending about it. Ever read GOOP?
In any case, she sings better than she acts.
Gwyneth has got some genuine pipes. Some pure real raw vocal talent. There were NO tech tricks with her vocals on the Broadcast. Go Paltrow!!
She rocks!!!
Well, she is serviceable and I give her credit for looking more comfortable holding a guitar than her friend, Madonna.
She’s yet another in a long line of Hollywood interlopers pushed on this town thanks to their fame and celebrity (from Jessica Simpson to Julianne Hough who never had a hard day in her entire life to that idiot Laura Bell Bundy … coming in and singing country music… like they’d know anything about it).
Paltrow is special though – she is the epitome of a complete hack and I can’t stand her for taking the place of numerous other more talented and deserving artist who live on rice and beans trying to make their dreams come true. Once her precious ‘movie’ is long gone from theaters, she too will move on and stop whoring out country music. Unlike Jennette McCurdy or Jenna Von Oy – both of whom care about Nashville, country music, and having a career (Jenna Von Oy’s 2007 album is amazing) – or Kid Rock who has an obvious respect and knowledge for it — this low class worthless hack Paltrow has no desire to have a career in country music, and could care less about this town and the people in it. Is that princess going to get on a bus and do 180 shows a year for the next 5 years? She gonna come off her pedestal and shake the common folks hands? She gonna work hard and earn respect?
She disgust me. She absolutely disgust me. And everyone in this town who is giving her these opportunities disgust me as well … I know times are tough and people need paychecks – fine, I get it … but you should at least show some shame in private. Helping this hack isn’t anything to be proud of and in 10 years it won’t mean a thing.
Personal? you bet.
She’s plugging a movie. A movie that shot in Tennessee and pumped money into the local economy. It’s not like she’s trying to build Paltrow-Wood. I imagine she’s mostly doing the dog and pony show to try to help secure overseas distribution for the film.
I’m with you 100 %. Feel sorry for Chris Martin and all the other real music talents, big or small, that had to watch her steal the spotlight from everybody on the whole show.
Her + Chris Martin = The new Wings
I know that girl. She married Spencer from the Hills!
Her film will still flop.
The trailer for the movie looks like it has every cliche ever. Yet i’d still see it (and enjoy it).
She was OK. I liked her voice in the Huey Lewis song but this one, she was all right. The guitar looked too big for her and she looked gawky and uncomfortable. Her voice was all right, nothing special. She had zero stage presence. If she wasn’t “the” Gwyneth Paltrow, people would have yawned at the performance.
All due respect to Paltrow, but having Vince Gill sing backup to her would be kind of like Nikki Finke being the starting quarterback and Peyton Manning being the backup.
I’m not even a country fan but wow — man’s voice is amazing.
Not bad, I would have liked a little more vocal range but pretty good for someone who isn’t a career singer. Here’s an idea. She cuts and darkens her hair and plays Linda Ronstadt in a biopic. I’d certainly give her an audition based on this alone.
She was…fine. Not great, not bad. Maybe even good near the end. Props to her for (as far as I can tell) singing live, but let’s not make this more than it is. Whose idea was the guitar though because she is NOT comfortable.
Sure, put her in a movie musical, but hell with Autotune these days you can put anyone in a musical. Again let’s not make this more than it is.
Wow! Great voice…I love Gwyneth! Haterz, park it at the curb! She’s the real deal.
Terrific-amazed again at the multi-talented people who I only know as an actors and then Walla-something out of the blue comes this way. When I saw the paintings of Sinatra and Tony Bennett or Christopher Walken dancing…I was amszed at how much more they can give the world of entertainment. I wish her all the best and looking forward to the movie.
Let’s not forget that Johnny Cash started the same way — with only some raw talent, two famous parents, and Steven Spielberg as his godfather.
Great singer, though it’s tough to respect the song considering her country roots hail all the way back to the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Then again, Dierks Bentley discovered country at an elite boarding school in New Jersey, so I guess it’s just par for the course now.
She’s tone deaf
Gwyneth who?
Either this is going to be a hit or flop majorly hard. The script is unimpressive and is merely mindless sweetner for a Xmas day viewing.
meh…
Rightfully or wrongfully GP got a reputation as an america-bashing elitist. I can’t watch this without wondering how much of this direction is in reaction to that.
Congrats to Shana Feste for writing and directing this film! It looks amazing!
Yep. We hate her because she’s perfect. That’s the only conceivable reason one would find her an insufferable, entitled spoiled child.
I wanted to hate this, but she did great. She not only hit the notes, but she told the story in the song. And to think she both sand and played guitar. I know her guitar was not turned up high in the mix, but even that was better than some pro singers that try to play guitar while singing. Kudos all around.
