EXCLUSIVE: Janina Gavankar (The Gates, The L Word) has joined True Blood‘s upcoming fourth season as a regular. Additionally, Alexandra Breckenridge (Dirt, Life Unexpected) and Vedette Lim (As the World Turns) have come on board the HBO smash as recurring. Meanwhile, co-star Jessica Tuck has been promoted to a full-fledged series regular.
Gavankar will play Luna, a super-sexy public school teacher and shapeshifter who is first seen attending an informal gathering with others like her. Breckenridge, a noted voiceover artist who can regularly be heard on
Fox’s Family Guy, will play Daisy, a member of a wiccan group founded by Marnie (new series regular Fiona Shaw). Finally, Main Title-repped Lim will portray Naomi, a fierce fighter who participates in underground cage matches for money.
Tuck, repped by Michael Greene and Assoc., joined True Blood as even-tempered vampire mouthpiece Nan Flannigan in season 1. Her role was beefed up considerably last season, so news of her full-time upgrade doesn’t come as a complete surprise.
The flurry of True Blood castings arrive one week before production on season 4 is scheduled to get underway. Michael Ausiello will be contributing to Deadline.com and Movieline.com as he preps for the early 2011 launch of a new TV-centric website.

Cool, I think officially pushes the number of characters on the show the audience will hate and not care about up to 100! Congrats on the milestone and less air time for Bill, Sookie, Eric and Jessica (you know the characters people find interesting). At this point just cast a Sasquatch and be done with it.
Eddie,
Obviously you do not read the Sookie Stackhouse novels. As this season will be and should be filled with different folks. From shifters to witches. It all fits around the plot of Sookie and Eric. So, these folks are intrical to the story and if not for them it wouldn’t make much sense.
Ooh!! Production starts in a week, how exciting!!
Production starting…
Well this explains why I saw Sam Tremmell and Joe Maganiello at the gym these past weeks (separately). Getting buffed up to getting butt naked.
Sooooo what gym do you go to?
The show was so terrible last season I don’t know if it can get back on track. Pointless scenes, plot-lines to nowhere……I’ve given up on it. Only way I’ll watch is if MaryAnne returns…….
Chuck,
I thought season 2 wasn’t that good. But to each their own. I loved last season sans the whole Sookie fairy thing. But once again back to the books it’s all playing out the way it should. This season will be amazing, again! I am sure of it!
Breckenridge is a Goddess. Beautiful & brilliant. Talent runs in the family– look at her relative Michael Weatherly.
The regular cast of girls (extremely annoying) isn’t cutting it. The show feels the need to get a new crew of whores. When will hollyweird get it that females playing the “tough guy” role or the “slut” role is just bad writing and a losing proposition?
Really, Superman — “whores?” I don’t recall a single prostitute on the show outside of Lafayette, and he’s a dude. You sound pretty threatened by strong and/or sexual women. I’m guessing your “man”hood is not that “super.”
thank you:)
Don’t fault the actors blame Alan Ball it’s his fault the show is such a mess. The Vampire Dairies (I know a CW show!) blows it out the water!
The Vampire Dairies, Jenny? What show is that? Is it murderous vampire cows rising up against dairy farmers??
Now that is a show I would like to see.
:O)
Wow! Jenny, are you serious? A teen show that has absolutely agreed they take a lot of their own plot from TRUE BLOOD! Alan Ball is a genius, by the way.
Seriously, the Vampire Diaries?!
You mean that nonsensical show where a miss perfect (at least in twilight the main female character is said to be average looking!) gets to have a gorgeous looking vampire AND his badass-also-gorgeous-looking vampire brother fall in love with her?
The show that, if it follows the books’ plot, will have her die AND come back to life???
You really think you can compare that to True Blood?!
Thank goodness for less bill and sookie anytime they ate boooooring. I could use more alcide on air though. Love some of these mrw faces and o think Alan ball will use them well. This show will surprise me every time.
Please please please…stop adding new people to the show and start going back to the core/original cast that we love!!!
So when is Godzilla and the Creature from the Black Lagoon going to show up?
Loved this show last season. I thought it was way better than the muddly season 2. Sure, there were some plotlines that didn’t work (Sam’s extended family), but all of the vampire politics were fascinating. Looks like this next season is the Season of the Witch and I’m excited to see what’s coming. Especially if Fiona Shaw gets as juicy a role as Denis O’Hare did.
I couldn’t agree more with you, Ross! I loved last season… season 2 for me was just ho-hum. I am reallllly looking forward to this season, as you said the season of the witch!
I do think so too!!
I really loved season 3, while season 2 was… loooooooooooong! Way, waaay too long.
I’m happy to have new characters coming! I love Jessica, I’m happy she was added to the cast, and I’m sure those new caracters will be equaly interesting.
He want to make it his owen and has created some good characters but Ball also has missed the mark a lot last year. It would do the show well to stick to the books as far as the witch plot goes.
You people need to read the books… The show is going in that direction… they are only going to add more characters… I love it. I can’t wait to see who else they cast as some of the characters in the books… <3 it
Yeh- who do you think will play Quinn? He should be showing up soon.
Well, yes, there is Quinn to think about, but most importantly, what about a certain shower? I mean, we all know that Sookie and Bill seem like the perfect couple, but isn’t awesome to have a 1,000+ yr old super-hot viking vamp? So, GO TEAM ERIC!!!
Why do they keep adding to the cast??!? There was barely enough time for Eric and Pam LAST year!
First of all Maryanne is dead…and am really looking forward to see witches and wizards in the show
It’s not so much a matter of casting issues as it is a writing thing. So, please, AB, fix up the problem that was last season. You ruined a lot of True Blood for a lot of fans.
Kay, thanks, bye.
I’m afraid I agree with Eddie “Bad Blood” TueNov23…
To everyone who’s complaining about all the new characters, do you not realize the series is based on the Sookie Stackhouse series?! There are like 10 books, with a new one coming out every year. The new Characters tend not to last more than one season, the only new characters that do pass on to the next season are Alcide and Crystal. And to the person who wanted Maryanne to come back, Sam killed her!!! Plus she was a villan, if she came back that would defeat the purpose of the storyline!! You all need to calm down and wait for the season to air before you start judging it and its creator Allan Ball.
Becky,
The problem is that the show just wasn’t very well written last year and our core characters were the least interesting part of the ensemble (except for Lafayette). Sookie was nothing more than an annoying whiner and if I never hear her yell, “Where is Bill?” ever again I will be happy. It was akin to Starbuck screaming “we’re going the wrong way” every two seconds on Season 4 of Battlestar.
I found myself just plain cringing every time Sookie appeared in a scene… until that glorious day she took that bloody shower with Bill. Thank heavens this is a pay cable show or it really wouldn’t be any decent.
vedette lim, is she part chinese-filipina?
I will not give any spoilers but in the books there are so many characters introduced in each book & while Alan Ball is deviating in some of the story lines he is sticking to others. I for 1 don’t mind the variety but I do have to agree on more Alcide time & Eric face (or butt) time
For all of the people that are complaining about the new cast members and the show being “boring” or terrible… try reading the books. The new cast members are vital to the story. Bill and Sookie are not the only or the best part of TB. I only hope season 4 follows along with the book’s story line a little more and we see much more of Eric. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it! I for one and glad to see additional cast members and more stories coming to light. Way to go!
I’d like them to come back toward the books story line more. I mean come on, changing Quin’s charecter into a girl!!! The hope of seeing this charecter was the biggest turn on. I’m truely dissapointed.
Yes, but look at the bright side, (but not of the sun, you’ll go blind. I would much rather see Sookie with Eric that with Quinn. I mean, there is a clear hotness difference between vampires, and shifters or weres. Plus, it will add way more drama if Sookie’s with Eric.
I am sorry guys, but the book and tv show parted ways a long time ago.
AB does a great job of keeping everyone watching TB. If he stuck to the books there would be no need for the series TB nor for the author to continue writing the books. Variety is the spice of life and new characters keep the show and viewers interested. I agree they should have kept Quinn as a guy. It would’ve been great to see Sookie and Quinn together but I guess Alcide will have to do.
i think AB is doing a terrific job. he knows what he’s doing and we should all sit back and enjoy true blood because great shows like this one don’t ever last long enough or come around that often. i do hope he puts the sookie/eric fling in there. that would be so awsome.
just wanting to know when true blood season 4 starts in australia
