Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a teaser for The Zookeeper, the Kevin James-starrer which will be one of the studio’s 2011 summer tent poles. The film was done as a co-production with MGM, but the early heavy lifting was done by former MGM picture chief Mary Parent, who paid $2 million for the Jay Scherick/David Ronn script and steered it through production. It should have been Parent’s first real swing for the fences, but the MGM uncertainty led it to be turned over for distribution by its SPE partners, who watched it and slotted it for summer, 2011.

Eddie Murphy’s DR. DOOLITTLE in a Zoo… How fucking original.
Was that the pitch to Mary? “Can’t you just see it?! DR. DOOLITTLE IN A ZOO!” And she fell for it???
Try Paul Blart in a Zoo. With a TON of voice talent. With a better release date than Blart.
This trailer is seriously missing some LOL.
Yikes! This is a “summer tent pole”???
The pitch was “Night At the Museum” in a Zoo!
And the Franklin Park Zoo had an issue a while back with animals escaping.
I am sure no matter how related a movie to the other movie still more moviegoers would like to see this film.
what if paul blart worked in a zoo and he could *talk* to the animals. hilarious. it writes itself.
Can someone please explain Kevin James to me… I simply don’t get the appeal. A hefty reward will be waiting….
He’s likable, is great at pratfalls, and isn’t crude.
basically he’s an UNFUNNY Chris Farley. Paul Blart was an exercise in execrable viewing. A waste of two hours.
Man, I wish Chris Farley were still around.
Now THAT guy was funny. I wonder if any of the lame talent currently assembled on Saturday Night Live will ever reach his genius level of comedic and physical humor? Farley, simply put, rocked!
He’s as gifted a physical comedian as there is out there. Also props to him for choosing to work clean when the rest of the herd of comedic actors are consumed by: gross out humor, weed jokes/sex jokes or generally being “hip” which usually translates to “not funny.”
Did that lion just call Kevin James’ character “Griffin”? Not only are they selling this as NIGHT OF THE MUSEUM meets DR. DOOLITTLE in a ZOO, but I think they also want the audience to assume that this is a live-action FAMILY GUY movie with Kevin James playing Peter Griffin.
Mike, the title is “Zookeeper” not “The Zookeeper”
The Zoo Keeper is the title, at least on the Apr 16 2007 script.
It’s not April 2007 anymore.
Kevin James is on a roll. Nobody expected Mall
Cop to do as well, and it was a big success.
I think this may actually be the worst film ever made… and I say that without any hyperbole.
According to this trailer, the movie will be half slap-stick clumsiness and half screaming.
They should set this in the Natural History Museum
Look dreadful. I will make a point to protect my children from this.
Did you also make it a point to teach your children basic grammar?
200 Million.
Domestic. Intl will be huge too.
This thing is money in the bank.
Not my kinda movie but a friend was at a screening and told me it was really good. It’s gonna be huge.
I keep saying this: Soon all films will be talking animals.
please Kevin James, please. Please please please, please please stop.
What do you do to an elephant with three balls? Walk him and pitch to the giraffe.
Hollywood has jumped the shark. You know it’s true.
Hilarity ensues!
A Zoo (prison for wildlife) movie? Nope.
Yup, this was definitely her big chance to swing for the feces.
That is a $2 million script idea? Hitch meets Dr. Doolittle? MGM WTF? It reminds me of the fake trailers at the beginning of Tropic Thunder.
Can’t wait to see this with my kids…Um..>since I have no kids, guess I ain’t seeing it…
Another lame video game adaptation.
