Today, Medium creator Glenn Gordon Caron officially confirmed the cancellation with a message to the show’s fans, announcing that the Jan. 21 seventh season finale will be a series finale:
“It’s true. Allison Dubois will dream her last dream on “Medium”, Friday, January 21st. In what we believe will be a series defining episode, Allison and her family will stare destiny in the eye. And destiny will not blink.”

Congrats on a long series run. That last sentence though is stupid. Destiny never blinks, if it exists it has no impulses nor, more literally, an eye ball with lid. The correct usage of this phrase (hackneyed though it might be) is that (the unliklily named) Allison Dubois and her family will stare destiny in the (CBS) eye and they will not blink.
Seriously, good run. Arquette and the other actors can go on to something else.
get over yourself.
not “unliklily”…
Boo!!! One of my favorite shows on television! I was so happy when CBS saved it from being canceled by NBC. I do look forward to what Allison Dubois’ last dreams will be… maybe she’ll see the show on another network??
Me too. Totally bummed about this one…
I will miss it terribly. It’s been one of my favorite shows since it premiered.
Nice run. I look forward to what Caron does next.
A seriously underrated show with critics and Emmys. The supporting actors, writing and directing, even art direction and music and other tech aspects, all top-notch. So many little grace notes that help the show stand up to repeated viewings.
Not surprising at all, but at least it sounds like they’re giving it a real wrap-up. Seven seasons is an excellent run.
Allison Dubois should have seen this coming!
Me too, I’ll miss this show & its cast very much.
bummer. I really liked this show.
I’m very sad that Medium is cancelled.
What a shame. Despite its long run, the stories continued to evolve both the initial premise and move into other interesting areas. It also had an honest depiction of a marriage, family life, financial concerns and the continuity that comes from year to year as the viewer got to know the Dubois family. The performances and the conceit will be missed
Medium is cancelled????
Totally shocking to cancell this show! Well written and never boring. I am still trying to buy past the Season 5 on DVD. So many of the shows are NOT on the DVDs. I love this and feel let down that stations think they know what we like – who does the audits? listen to us! bring her back!!!
Thank the good lord. The Casting on this show stunk.
Change the channel if you dislike it. Quite a few of us loved it and do not want to see it go into archive.
Agree with Turtle. The show was outstanding in all depts. and way exceeded expectations for a show with its premise. Still, 7 seasons ain’t chopped liver; most series run on empty at that point, and at least we’ll get to see it wrapped up properly. Allison will probably start law school; Davalos will probably be elected mayor of Phoenix; and Joe should continue to do well in his current position. I’ll miss all the actors on the show, especially Maria Lark and the most sleep-deprived husband on TV, Jake Weber. Props to everybody connected with this series.
Ding dong…
the witch is dead.
I don’t know what to tell you Alison.
I’m just glad they can give it closure.
God Damn it! This sucks! One of the best show on TV right now….. Why was CBS picking the show up and then throw it in at 9 pm on Fridays! 5-7M viewers isn’t bad on Fridays.
I have looked forward watching every episode for the last 5 years and this season has probably been one of there best and it’s so sad to have too say goodbye. Hope they end the series in a good way..
Booo!!! This has long been my favorite. I will miss the DuBois family.
This is too bad – I love the show. Really strong performances and compelling storylines…I hope to see the cast and Caron do something else great soon!
Out goes Medium, in comes Chaos
Boo! Though not surprised after the show order was cut back from 22 episodes to 13 – but VERY sad to hear it! As others have noted, Medium has been consistently excellent in all areas: great writing, cast and overall production. I too, have also enjoyed the way the honest depiction of family life, marriage and everyday living has been woven into the story lines. Would’ve been nice to let the show finish the full season initially promised. Glad there will at least be a series finale. Great move, CBS. Put the show on Friday at 8pm, one of the lowest viewing times all week – and now, cancel the show and bring on some mid-season junk. Boo again to CBS!!!
What is wrong with television executives? You take a show and move it to the worst time-slot in broadcast history and then are surprised when its viewership declines. I have enjoyed all seasons of this. The marriages portrayed are among the best. Another strike against the major networks. No wonder cable is making the bigger bucks.
As usual, CBS cancels a show I like. Like others said, was very happy when CBS saved it from the NBC axe (and that was due to the whole Jay Leno fiasco!-no room on schedule!) I do hope Glenn will give us a decent series finale. And for those folks who didn’t like the show – no one said you had to watch it! So hush up and let those of us who did like it, share in our sadness. The duBois family will be missed!
as the old saying goes,
“a well Medium is rare…”
