After monthlong negotiations, CNN today announced that Jonathan Wald, former executive producer of NBC’s Today and Nightly News, and former SVP of CNBC, has been named executive producer of Piers Morgan’s upcoming primetime talk show for the cable news channel, Piers Morgan Tonight, which will premiere January 2011. “Jonathan has spent more than 20 years as a top producer in broadcast and cable television news and has the unique ability to produce television that is smart and provocative,” CNN EVP Keb Jautz said. Added Morgan, “Jonathan is tough, funny, smart as hell, incredibly experienced, and wants to win.” Most recently Wald has been an advisor to AOL on cross-platform programming initiatives. “I can’t wait to get started and to collaborate with Piers on redefining the long-form interview program in primetime,” he said.

Piers Morgan is a far cry from Matt Lauer.
Production skill will have no part in this shows failure.
CNN has long ago lost it concept of real journalism.
The ratings slide will continue for Larry King Live’s slot with Piers Morgan along with most of their other shows.
It is a shame as CNN under Ted Turner was actually lauded for its reporting and newsworthy specials.
The Piers Morgan show is an embarrassment and a shame for a network that has represented far more program integrity since it inception. To think that this fast talking, rude and arrogant host could ever replace a Larry King is illogical and destructive. Morgan needs to be replaced and fast or CNN will continue its decline. Following last evening’s viewing of the interview with Robert Redford and his fine cast for his upcoming movie you have lost another long time viewer of CNN in this time slot.
