EXCLUSIVE: Sarah Jones (Sons of Anarchy) has landed the lead in the J.J. Abrams-produced Fox pilot Alcatraz. The drama project, from Warner Bros. TV and Abrams’ Bad Robot, centers on a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners and guards who reappear in the present day. It chronicles the efforts of a team of FBI agents to track them down and unravel the mystery behind their disappearance thirty years prior. Jones will play Rebecca Madsen, a smart, thoughtful and a little obsessive police officer. She joins Lost alum Jorge Garcia who was the first actor cast in the pilot. Jones is the latest ingenue to headline a series project from Abrams, who is known for breaking new young female talent on his shows. He cast Keri Russell on Felicity, Jennifer Garner on Alias, Evangeline Lilly on Lost, Australian Anna Torv on Fringe, and, most recently, British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw on Undercovers.
Jones, repped by Greene & Assoc. and manager Lena Rocklin, recurred on FX’s Sons of Anarchy last season and is doing an arc on another FX drama series, Justified. She has been on the radar of Fox’s casting executives with recent guest spots on House and Lone Star. On the feature side, she recently completed The Domino Effect and Storage.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

You mention Gugu’s casting like it was a good thing. Very pretty young woman, but if you can figure out how to have chemistry with Boris Kodjoe there’s something wrong. It was the central relationship that failed in Undercovers.
Having said that all the best to this Sarah Jones, who I do not know. At all. I would watch SOA but if I wrote anything negative about it the creator of the show I have been told can actually put a hole in the center of your forehead via Twitter. And who needs that?
hahahaha best comment ever!! SOA RULES!!! Kurt Sutter is one badass MOFO. I HIGHLY recommend watching. BEST SHOW EVER.
Hey Joe B….sorry you don’t know Sarah Jones ( played Polly Zoebel ) or have never watched Sons of Anarchy. It’s not a show for everybody, especially the faint of heart or the politically correct.
Kurt Sutter is one brilliant”Mo Fo” and his cast ensemble is the most talented actors to hit the airwaves in decades.
The mainstream award shows must be on your team because they have been ignoring & disrespecting Sutter & Sons since season one episode one…anf it just keeps getting better & freaking better all the time!
Oh wow, another cop show on TV. Such geniuses in Hollywood these days. Let’s see, surely there’s an open slot for another one. I got it, vigilante cops after hours who bust people with bad hygiene – We Don’t Need No Steenkin Badges. Good, huh?
Your commentary is so new and refreshing. Tell me more!
its going to be a serial drama about alcatraz, not a cop drama.
Borrrrrrinnnnnnnng
Is this the show he’s dumping Fringe for? He always has another project which becomes more important than his current one. Why the hell is everything supernatural? Can’t they just be alcatraz guards and prisoners who happen to exist in our time?
he hasnt been actively involved in Fringe since the middle of the first season.
Good luck, Sarah. Wish it had been HMS, but so happy for you.
I don’t care how many shows JJ Abrams produces as long as the quality of Fringe (and the Star Trek movies) stays high. That being said, Undercovers needed a little more something than he was able to give it. Hopefully Alcatraz will have that special ingredient that can attract an audience. Anymore failures and we’ll have to start comparing JJ to Joss again (kidding.)
How does Rocklin service all these people? Big List.
I’ll watch almost anything JJ does, especially when there’s a sci-fi flair to it, but has anyone noticed that the plot to this show sounds a lot like USA Network’s The 4400, but with Alcatraz prisoners instead of real people.
I will watch and I wish this new gal lots of success
but boy does she look like so many other actresses
when are we going to have something different
can’t tell her apart from everyone else
too many of the same interchangeable faces!
Lena rocks! Good for Sarah!
Mr. Skip Press, YOU are FUNNY!
However, your sarcasm here with this success story,,,makes you seem shallow. Save it for a paying gig, and maybe you’ll be mentioned by your “real” name in this column soon enough.
Can he cast Jennifer Garner in a season long arc as one of the escaped prisoners/big bad? That would make for some good TV. As a matter of fact, he should cast all his former girls as the villains. I’d watch.
