After rousing the audience with a Dirty Dancing-inspired routine on Monday, Jennifer Grey was just crowned the winner of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Grey was the most accomplished dancer among the three finalists, and ended the improbable run of Bristol Palin, who started her freestyle dance routine in a cage Monday in front her mother Sarah Palin seated with the audience. Still, Bristol overcame her lack of dance expertise, mediocre marks from the judges, 
media outcry over her narrow escapes from elimination, and even alleged death threats, to reach the finale of the hit ABC reality series which was held amidst heightened security. Palin, who trailed Grey and fellow finalist Kyle Massey in every round of judging, was eliminated first, with Grey named the winner minutes later. There hasn’t been this much attention surrounding the finale of a reality series since the maiden season of Survivor and the early cycles of Fox’s American Idol. The final Nielsen ratings for last night are in, and the Bristol Palin-fueled Dancing With The Stars (23.7 million, 4.9/13 in adults 18-49) posted the strongest results for a Dancing performance finale in six seasons, since the fifth cycle’s Monday finale in November 2007. (Dancing airs two cycles every broadcast season.) Versus last year, the show was up by 3.3 million viewers and by 23% in 18-49.

Bristol just made a cool $400K for only 11 weeks’ work. And her mother was just named by Newsweek as the 6th most powerful politcal figure in America with earnings of $14 mil for 2010 alone. So the Palins have no need to mount a pole. They are doing just fine making more money in one year than the average green-with-envy lib will make in several decades. You keep hatin’, while they keep making bank deposits. LOL!

HA! I guess the behind the scenes rumors that Grey took classes to prep for the show aren’t true then? Yeah right. At least Bristol started with a blank slate and actually learned something.
We don’t hate Bristol, we just think she doesn’t belong with the Stars and she can’t dance. It was a shame to see other good dancers sent home before her. And when I had to look at mother Sarah in the audience every week, it made my stomach turn over. They should stop grabbing the media attention and go back home.
Then contact ABC and try to convince them to allow you to do their casting from now on. But until that happens, they will hire anyone they please. In Bristol’s case, the ratings bonanza says they made a great decision — she clearly DID belong on the show, because viewers tuned in by the millions to see her.
Isn’t it interesting that some Conservatives always lash out with the word “Liberals”, while using the term “Haters” towards anyone who tends to not think like them or disagree with them about anything at all in general? How “Palin” of people like you!
Sorry, but even (a large number of) Conservatives thought – 1) Bristol Palin(AND Tom Delay) had no business being on DWTS, as they are not “stars at all” (where does the title of the show say; “Dancing with the Politicians and or their families”), and 2) neither one of them should have gotten as far as they did on the show, because neither one of them could/can dance.
Shame on the Palins for trying to use this for Sarah’s gains.

Yes, Palin went to 5 colleges, and it certainly seems like a person with little direction in their educational career. But so what? Are we only allowed to vote for the blue chips who went to Harvard or IVY League? Are we above allowing others not so fortunate or raised in an ordinary middle class family from taking on politics?
BTW, Yes Obama went to Colombia and Harvard. BUT, he also attended a local university in Hawaii, as well as a 2nd Tier univeristy in cali. So in total, he went to 4 different colleges. It’s all about the facts.

Sooooo happy, When it came right down to it — the best dancers made the final 2 and Jennifer and the superb Derek Hough (why isn’t he doing movies yet?) deserved the trophy. Palin wasn’t bad. Very happy with the result.

Do we really know if people were really voting for her week after week? It’s not like they give us the hard numbers of viewer voting on DWTS. This “competition” has all the realness of pro wrestling when it comes to the outcome. Why wouldn’t the producers look to keep the narrative going? is there any point in keeping the show pure and honest?
They took Bristol Palin to the extreme of the show without giving her the crown. they knew each week she stays on the show will get them a lot more headlines than anyone else they put on the show. They knew they’d get plenty of free buzz whenever Palin rooted for her daughter
Look at American Idol – which also claims to collect votes, but refuses to say the numbers. The nice thing is that if DWTS and AI are rigged by the producers, there’s no law against it. The only thing they have to worry about is not creating the right mixture of drama to keep the audiences glued to the sets.
Dancing With the Stars = Professional Wrestling
It’s scripted, the winners are predetermined, fans think they have an impact but they don’t, and ABC decides the winners based on the best ratings.
Only difference between professional wrestling and Dancing With the Stars is that wrestling fans have long since known it was fake.
I believe there are laws against rigging shows. That came after the game show scandals of the 1950s, where some of the contestants were given the answers to questions ahead of time.
I wish I knew why the FCC isn’t investigating the alleged voting on these shows.
As for this particular show, DWTS, I have no doubt that while ABC was very happy with the ratings, they also knew that if Palin won, the backlash would have destroyed the show for next year, so they fixed the corrupted voting system for the final week.
I love DWTS. It’s one of my favorite programs. I don’t remember when I started voting for Bristol, but I did vote for Bristol many of the weeks she was on. I think her Tango with the air guitar was GREAT! She is the MOST improved dancer. I always split my votes though. After Monday’s finale, I gave 3 votes to Jennifer and 1 each to Kyle and Bristol. I just roll my eyes over these people who go off on Bristol Palin. What is the problem?

When you start with no-talent, never-taken-a-lesson and “improve” to the level of an elementary schooler who’s taken a few dance lessons at her local dance studio, then yeah, Bristol deserves all the praise she’s received (presumably from divorced-from-reality right-wing cultists here and elsewhere). Bristol was by no means worse than Marie Osmond who made it to the Top Three a few seasons ago. In fact, I think Bristol was a surprisingly good dancer, although she admittedly lacked charisma.
Was Brandy better? Sure. Kurt Warner and Rick Fox? I don’t think so. The whole thing with Bristol was completely politicized and not focused on the dancing at all.
That being said, Bristol was quite overscored on her jive on Monday night which was actually a step backward for her in terms of dance, but a step forward on the personality front.

The only awareness it created is that Bristol gained a lot of weight during the show (she’s more than likely pregnant again, which is totally her choice), her mother used it as free publicity to remain in the limelight during mid-term elections for the Tea Party and that the Palins were used as tools to boost sagging ratings. It’s just a show, rigged from the start … nothing more. Sit back and enjoy and stop looking for deep meanings where there aren’t any.

The fascinating part of the Palin / DWTS season is that she has been the only person ever to get FATTER as the season went on! Generally folks drop weight as thy stay on the show- this gal looked like a pig by the time she said goodbye. Its fascinating. Can you imagine what this girls eats? She dances ( if you want to call it that ) all day and eats dog food afterwards! What a dope. This would have been a great opportunity for her to drop some weight and move into the Hollywood scene for a “career.” Instead- she’s at Fatburger everyday feeding her buzz.
Haha! I posted the same thing before reading yours. My mouth dropped last night when they showed video of her first day. I thought she was big then but in comparison to now she was a reed! I agree she must binge every night to gain that much weight. Plus the truth is she’s hardly been made to dance as aggressively as other contestants. Her partner knew her limitations.
I was really dissapointed to see Jennifer as the winner. She was the most winning, star struck, diva I had ever seen. One moment she is complaining about pain here and there and then as if a miracle she was dancing as if nothing. Thats bull. Not enough drugs to make that happen. I would have preferred to see Kyle or even Bristol win than the 50 year old has been. She had her fame way back when and we never heard or saw her in any other good productions. Now its like everyone knew she was a star, bull. What about poor Brandy, she shoudl have been in that final. Oh well.
