EXCLUSIVE: In her first TV series gig, Joan Allen is set to do a multi-episode arc on HBO’s upcoming series Luck, joining a cast led by Dustin Hoffman. Luck, a David Milch/Michael Mann collaboration, takes a provocative look at horse racing – the owners, gamblers, jockeys and industry players. ICM-repped Allen will play a woman who runs a program that uses prison inmates to care for broken-down racehorses. On TV, the Oscar-nominated actress has done only a handful of TV movies, most recently playing the title role and executive producing Lifetime’s Georgia O’Keefe last year, which earned her an Emmy nomination. Luck is currently in production on the first post-pilot episode, which is being directed by Terry George.

WTF Elizabeth? Show some respect. Joan Allen is a phenomenal actress. THE ICE STORM, NIXON, PLEASANTVILLE, THE CONTENDER, THE NOTEBOOK, THE UPSIDE OF ANGER ….
She may not be as well known as some, but she has a recognizable face and again, very talented, so I don’t see the point in bashing her.
Elizabeth?! You have no dignity. Joan Allen is divine. Extraordinary. Gifted. Very watchable. Lovely addition to this production. Makes sense. You make no sense. No sense at all.
Please please be more interesting than that snooze-fest Boardwalk Empire.
Boardwalk Empire has really great writing. There’s a reason it has a metacritic score of 88.

Saw the pilot on the DL. How do you spell incomprehensible? The show is a hot mess. Confusing story beyond measure, hammy acting. it’s mind boggling that it ever got a greenlight. And where were the HBO execs when dailies were delivered? This turkey is going to take its place alongside the debacle known as John From Cincinatti. What a crying shame for two time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman, who’s very dignity is compromised after 43 years of being a respected and cherished movie star. Now poor Joan Allen…
The pilot is brilliant. It’s unbelievably shot and the cast is great. Maybe you just couldn’t follow it. It’s no John from Cincinnati.
WTF? No hating on Joan Allen. The woman can act circles around most of Hollywood with one arm tied behind her back. The fact the Gwenyth Paltrow, Julia Roberts and now Sandra Bullock have Oscars is a crime that someone needs to answer for. Heads must roll.

The pilot is phenomenal, and the show will take it’s place among HBO’s best ever . Including Sopranos, Deadwood and The Wire. You can take that to the bank ! The guy who said the show is a hot mess has to be reading on a third grade level and can’t follow. This show is incredible, hence the reason everyone from top actors to the top Directors are begging to be a part of it.
