EXCLUSIVE: Kevin Williamson, co-creator and executive producer of CW’s flagship drama The Vampire Diaries, has signed a rich overall deal with Warner Bros TV, the studio that produces the hit series. Under the three-year pact, Williamson will continue as an executive producer/co-showrunner on Vampire Diaries alongside fellow co-creator Julie Plec. He will also develop new projects for the studio. This marks Williamson’s first TV overall deal in a decade. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was under a deal at Miramax TV, an extension to the pact he had on the feature side with Miramax Films following the success of his first produced script, Scream, for Miramax’ Dimension label. WME-repped Williamson, who started off as an actor before switching to writing, has written the first two Scream movies as well as the upcoming Scream 4. On the TV side, Vampire Diaries marks his second hit young-skewing series after Dawson’s Creek. Both series helped establish fledgling networks, the WB (Dawson’s Creek) and its successor, the CW (Vampire Diaries). Vampire Diaries was a breakout hit for the CW when it launched last fall and ranks as the network’s top-rated series. Season to date, it has averaged 4 million viewers and a 2.2/7 in adults 18-34.

Kevin is one of the greatest individuals in this business. He is a true success story. Came from very little, made it big, struggled with his success and has now gone on to flourish. Hanging on to this man is good for the soul. Congrats to the WB TV group.
Couldn’t agree more! Kevin is a fantastic guy and incredibly talented.
Very happy to hear this, hollywood gave him a raw deal after Dawson’s great to see that a good show like Vampire Dairies is going strong and a great writer is getting his due. kudos.
i have been a fan of kevin williamson since dawson’s creek and its spin-off young americans. he have a way of perfectly capturing teen angst and projecting it on screen. so congrats to a very talented man. this deal is well deserved.
Great for Kevin! Wonderful guy and amazingly talented.
But did Kevin really write Scream 4? There have been rumors he has taken his name off the project.
He and Julie are possibly the most dynamic writing team in television today. Don’t believe me? Just watch 10 minutes of The Vampire Diaries, easily the most compelling drama in primetime. Their work should be a lesson for every other writing staff: MAKE THINGS HAPPEN…EARLY AND OFTEN…IN EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. MOVE THE PLOTS ALONG AT BREAKNECK SPEED. Seriously, other shows: What are you WAITING for? Let it all hang out in every episode, and you won’t get cancelled.
AGREED, 100%. What I really like about his style is that in every episode, at least one major “thing” happens. There’s no downtime episodes, so to speak. My dream writer collaboration would be Kevin and Joss Whedon.
Big fan of Kevin. Always happy to hear of his involvement with projects.
Congrats to Kevin. Been a fan of his work as a screen writer and with Dawsons Creek. Hopefully his next TV project will be just as great as Vampire Diaries.
I use to always scratch my head and watch certain shows and say Wow if Kevin Williamson had done this show it would be have been a hit or if he done that show that would have been a hit -time rewards good talent and he is one who is good for goodness sake -i bet you had he been the creator of “UNDERCOVERS” it would be a hit and still on the air!!!
yay so glad to hear this! congrats kevin! he does an amazing job on the vampire diaries!
Good going, Kevin Williamson. Say what they will; “Dawson’s Creek” was a hallmark show for the WB and a template for the coming-of-age teen dramedy. I hope the overall deal marks more great series to come.
Kevin Williamson is amazing creative & keeps the fans not only on the edge of their seats but always surprised! Love him!
wow Miramax TV haven’t seen that name in awhile. I echo others here. Kevin is so talented and can be extremely kind. So glad he’s back in a major way again – his writing is on par, dare I say better than before. Looking forward to see what rich character driven projects he comes up with.
If Kevin had been on Melrose Place 2009 instead of David and Todd, it definitely still be on. He knows how to craft a story well, when he has a basis for it or from scratch.
I like what you guys are publishing. Such wise work!
carry on the superb works guys I’ve placed you guys to my
