EXCLUSIVE: If you’re handicapping Lay The Favorite – the Stephen Frears movie adaptation of the Beth Raymer gambling memoir — take Bruce Willis and The Town‘s Rebecca Hall. I’ve heard they are the front runners for Raymer’s tale about how she became involved with some older guys who figured out how to gain an edge on the Vegas sports book system. D.V. De Vincentis wrote the script for Focus Features and Random House Films. Neither Willis nor Hall are sure bets, though. Willis is also circling the Wes Anderson-directed Moon Rise Kingdom, and Hall recently read for the role of Daisy Buchanan opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire in the Baz Luhrmann-directed adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

I read the book and it was deadly dull. Which doesn’t necessarily mean it will be a terrible film. I wouldn’t want to try and adapt it though. Nothing happens in the book.
Awesome! Loved the book and can’t wait for the movie. I can totallly see Willis as one of the gamblers–though which one?. Rebecca Hall is an odd choice for the main character who seemed to me a kind of off-the-wall, eccentric dumb blonde.
Nobody likes to see movies about sports betting. Don’t know why, but they just don’t. Anyone remember TWO FOR THE MONEY? It was awful.
It is, in fact, a great book. Raymer is a superb, captivating writer. I can only hope the film is as good as this fantastic book.
Seems Willis is working non-stop these days. Guess he lowered his ask – but to what?
Wills again…he has gotta be catching up to Robert DiNero on the number of movies he has made…by the end of his caeer he will be the ZENYETTA of the movie business. It’s always the same…the smirk head down-pull out a gun. He should does spend alot of his lifetime in a movie trailer parked somewhere surrounded by teamsters. But as always, I want him to succeed, the movie to be great-so he can make more movies with the teamsters
This is pretty awesome. Read the book and this is a VERY challenging female role. Beth Raymer is the kind of character you kind of dislike but secretly want to be like.
Per recent intel, BW’s quote is still somewhere in the $6MM range.
Props to D.V., who’s quite simply the coolest.
I knew Beth at the time an saw her fight at the Felt forum. Read her book an it was great. I knew some of the lead characters and she nails them.Looking foward to the movie.
