EXCLUSIVE: Kristoffer Polaha is staying in the CBS family. Polaha, who stars on the critically praised CW/CBS Studios drama Life Unexpected, has signed a rich talent holding deal with CBS and CBS Studios to topline a new project eyed for next fall. I hear Polaha was offered the deal the day CW decided not to give Life Unexpected a back order, effectively sealing the fate of the sophomore drama. There are four unaired episodes of LUX left and, barring any last-minute ratings surge, the series will be done in January, allowing Polaha to take on pilot duty for CBS.
Actors signed in talent deals by CBS have gone on to headline some of its biggest series, including William Petersen on CSI, Melina Kanakaredes on CSI: NY, LL Cool J on NCIS: LA and Alex O’Loughlin on Hawaii Five-0. Polaha, repped by WME and Mosaic, is the only drama actor on CBS’ talent roster for this pilot season. On the comedy side, the network has deals with Leah Remini and Rob Riggle. Polaha’s breakthrough came in 2003 when he was cast in the title role of the telefilm America’s Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story. He went on to star on several series, including Fox’s North Shore and ABC’s Miss Guided, and also recurred on AMC’s Mad Men.

Everytime you guys talk about Life Unexpected the term “critically praised” or “critical darling” or “critical whatever” comes up, yet that acclaim remains to be seen and it’s been a whole year for the show now. Nobody praises this show, it’s a guilty pleasure at best.
Where are these amazing reviews?
Actually, it did receive acclaim, Shekwanda.

A 69 average on Metacritic is extremely positive, especially for the CW. That included raves from the LA Times, TV Guide, Washington Post. The NYT was lukewarm, but otherwise…
Compare that to the 51 average for Hellcats.
Thank you for playing.
Check that out. CW just lost a good thing. I hope this isn’t a pilot for the CW…
Good news for Polaha!
“William Petersen on CSI, Melina Kanakaredes on CSI: NY, LL Cool J on NCIS: LA and Alex O’Loughlin on Hawaii Five-0.” – The difference is that with the exception of Alex O’Loughlin who’s NOT a good actor at all, all of the people in this list are exceptional actors. Polaha is not even a MEDIOCRE actor, he’s the reason that the ratings are so horrendous in the first freakin’ place. This is proof positive that CBS has done lost their minds. “Polaha’s breakthrough came in 2003 when he was cast in the title role of the telefilm America’s Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story. He went on to star on several series, including Fox’s North Shore and ABC’s Miss Guided, and also recurred on AMC’s Mad Men.” – All of the shows he’s been in have been cancelled again with the exception of ‘Mad Men’, gee I wonder why? Maybe because he’s in all of those shows, he’s the common thread that helps all of these shows get cancelled.
“Actually, it did receive acclaim, Shekwanda.” – Receiving minor praise from CRITICS means dick in the TV business. The FANS are what counts and they CLEARLY hate the guy otherwise they’d actually be watching the show. “A 69 average on Metacritic is extremely positive, especially for the CW. That included raves from the LA Times, TV Guide, Washington Post. The NYT was lukewarm, but otherwise…” – Again, make a point because these don’t count. “Compare that to the 51 average for Hellcats.” – And yet the FANS like that show MUCH better than this POS, which is sad considering the fact that ‘Hellcats’ is about cheerleaders. “Thank you for playing.” – Thank you for being stupid, it’s funnier.
“CW just lost a good thing. I hope this isn’t a pilot for the CW” – Dream on! It doesn’t matter what network he’s on, as I’ve already stated he’s a SHITE actor and he’s tanked every show he’s ever been on including LUX.
Whoa — did Liz Tigelaar turn you down for a date, dude? WTF with this level of hostility?
Lol, Shekwanda got checked!!!
Good for Kris, but stay away from anything CW. It’s a crap network, and the entire cast is capable of better.
I LOVE Leah Remini. She is a funny LADY!
Good for him. Polaha is very talented and is the whole cast. It was a great ensemble cast and I hope we get to see a whole lot more of all of them. CW should be ashamed for cutting the show. Their loss, CBS’s gain.
Knew a network would grab him quickly. He’s handsome, funny, charming and a really good actor and even if he didn’t go with CBS, he would be at the top of everyone’s list this pilot season for comedy or drama!! Also btw, he is a helluva nice guy. Everyone who worked with him on Life U. loved him!! You go Kris!!! Smart move CBS.
Woah! Who the hell pissed in your cheerios? Did Kris’ show replace one of your cancelled ones? Did you get passed up on a role that he got over you? Do you even FOLLOW Kris? Or are you just naturally bitter that you have to find some Kris/LUX articles to bash? I might go with the latter because I can’t see how anyone can be so mean spirited about a guy like Kris! But clearly your opinion matters SO much with all your lovely quoting – you MUST state fact.
Polaha is the most charismatic actor on the show. Lux reminds me of a young Julia ROberts–she’ll get there. But Cate….(I haven’t even the interest to find out her real name) I just have zero interest in her as an actress. No charisma. Zip. The personality she portrays is so ’50′s Freudian hysterical in her reactions that it is almost embarrassing.
I liked the show fine, ignored Cate, loved Polaha.
THe networks continue to be clueless.
And oh yeah, from the first, Ryan always seemed kinda deceptive-creepy to me, but I was glad Cate didn’t end up with Polaha. He’s way too good for her.
