Malin Akerman (Couples Retreat, Watchmen, 27 Dresses) is now confirmed to replace Lindsay Lohan in Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story from director/writer Matthew Wilder’s script, which made the 2008 Black List. “My understanding is that Lindsay was dropped as she’s impossible to insure and the producers loved Malin,” an insider emails. Malin’s upcoming credits include Wanderlust (Paul Rudd, Jen Aniston), Happythankyoumoreplease (Josh Radnor) and The Bang Bang Club (Taylor Kitsch, Ryan Philippe). She is also attached to star opposite Ethan Hawke in The Numbers Station. The Lovelace project (we really need another after Brian Grazer did one?) is based on the novel Ordeal: An Autobiography by Linda Lovelace with Mike McGrady. The producers include Chris Hanley of Muse Productions and Jordan Gertner.

Does anyone know if this is the same Matthew Wilder who produces “No Doubt’s” Tragic Kingdom and sang “Ain’t nobody gonna break my heart” back in the 80′s? If it is, I sure hope he’s not using all his songwriting/producing royalties to bankroll this film. Remember, there’s only 3 different letters between the words “bankroll” & “bankrupt”!!
Didn’t I read Malin’s Bang Bang Club movie got distribution this week? And isn’t that movie about apartheid in South Africa? sounds like she’s making some interesting choices to me.
I heard that Lindsey left this picture because SHE FELT IT WAS THE WRONG NEXT MOVE. Muse doesn’t insure their pics. This is a shit script that will die a very fast painful death.Lindsey was the only interesting thing which may have saved it. Forget the other actress. She will not hurt or help. She is fine stop the mean comments. She does not mean anything because no one knows who she is yet. Just wish her the best.
A bit off subject, did anyone catch the musical LOVELACE — totally different production, but that was amazing. I hope some respectable indie company turns that into a film. And the woman who played Lovelace was terrific as her horrible, seedy bf/husband. What the musical did so well was give a twist on a pretty familiar tale — good girl done wrong.
To me, this production sounds like it’s just going to be an excuse to get these actresses naked and do graphic things. If it’s not done right, as others have said, it’s just gonna be soft-porn masquerading as a film.
The real Linda Lovelace story is moving and, ultimately, quite empowering. It could score big ala “Boys Don’t Cry” or “The Accused” if it is handled with intelligence and filmmaking chops.
I can’t believe I’m writing this, but I’d actually prefer Lindsay Lohan in this role. Malin is probably the worst actress I’ve ever seen. Did you see her in Watchmen? Pathetic. Even a throwaway role like Couples Retreat she couldn’t pull off. And Heartbreak Kid? The nly reason she was cast is she slightly resembles Cameron Diaz.
She should be a supporting actress on a CW sitcom or maybe print ads for Macy’s. But how she is considered a legitimate film actress in this town is beyond me.
With Lindsay, this film would have played Sundance, then tanked at the box office. With Malin, this film won’t even make the Santa Barbara Film Festival and will probably go straight to DVD. It might make money overseas depending on how much nudity she does.
Even though she’s not a Disney Skank, she still needs to do one of those “get out of car without any underware” shots…works every time!
R.I.P Lindsay Lohan’s Career
1997 – 2010.
Whew…that’s one less Lohan movie I wouldn’t have seen anyway.
what’s up with malin’s thumbs?
“Lindsay Lohan dumped” may or may not be true.
Wilder says he dumped her. Lindsay’s “people” say she dumped him.
Apparently the script includes both fill-up-the-seats mandated violence & sex & drugs along with a core story of human redemption. If Wilder does actually make the movie with Malin, we’ll see whether he’s targeting the 18-34 male sex & violence audience or 18-50 female redemption demo.
Ironically, Lindsay’s real life story encapsulates human redemption (rehabtion?)…plus a healthy dose of sex, drugs, and violence (thanks to her biological father). Not quite “Lindsay Lovelace”, but close enough.
Question of the day: Do top Hollywood PR firms do pro bono work?
Lindsay is broke, an unemployed actress completing her 5th rehab (hopefully this one works). Once upon a time, so the professional consensus goes, she displayed credible acting skills. Now, her name shouts “has been” and her career flounders without any discernible PR representation.
Is there not some respected PR firm in Hollywood that can step up and help Lindsay reclaim her life and career?
There may not be money in this pro bono project-at least at the start.
But there would be plenty of good karma to go around in this Hollywood PR firm.
And hey, when was the last time you saw “Hollywood” and “good karma” in the same sentence?
I love Malin. This movie sounds like a turd, though.
I think Malin could score with a guarded, Deneuve-style high class kink persona a la ‘Belle De Jour’…she needs to smoulder a little…
You’ve never produced a film. USC student films have to get insurance.
Like nikke say-don’t bore me
So many posters here have questioned why Malin gets the roles that she does since her acting skills are less than stellar. So now I want to know the same thing: if everyone thinks she sucks, how does she get cast? Looks? Casting couch? There are many very talented wanna-be actors out there, so why does Malin get these roles if she is apparently talentless?
Ok it’s stupid to really talk badly about LILO. Yeah she has her own problems but that is really no one else’s concern. Her job is to be an actress, and that’s it. People need to stop examining the private lives of celebrities and more on the work that they put out. In my opinion, at the end of the day she’s a great actress with a lot of talent, and not all the 8 balls of coke can or will be able to take it away from her.
Malin Akerman? The horror…the horror…
Malin was passionate about playing a porn star… not just ANY porn star, Linda Lovelace! Wow. Good for her. I hope she brings that passion to the role. I really do.
So many words, so little said.
There are a lot of people on this thread who seem to think they know how good an actress Lindsay Lohan or Malin Akerman is, as if they could make that comparison.
The script for Inferno really made the Black List? Is there a copy anywhere online?
Malin Akerman can be a good comedic actress at times; she has a refreshing go-for-it lack of vanity. However, she was the weakest element of Watchmen. I still don’t know why Zack Snyder cast her over all the other young actresses in Hollywood, truly baffling.
