Lionsgate has made a formal offer to Mike White to direct Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel that spices up Jane Austen’s time-tested Jane Austen with a smattering of flesh-eating walking corpses. White, who scripted School of Rock, made his feature directing debut on Year of the Dog. Several directors eyed the project since David O Russell exited the project but left behind a strong script and the idea of having Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper play the leads.

i love mike white
This concept is an abomination, along with the Lincoln idea. People in Hollywood need to stop, take a deep breath, and just take a clear look at these titanically asinine, patently absurd ideas.
Read it slow:
Pride & Prejudice…and Zombies.
Think about what an assault it is one one of culture’s classics.
Read it slow:
Abraham Lincolne…Vampire Hunter.
Those who find these ideas smart or cool should be sterilized.
I wanted Jonathan Demme to direct this movie.
Ned Schneebly??
Amazing Race Mike White??? I hope Mel gets a cameo
ohhh-kayyy??? Definitely surprised at the director and the tone & visual style of his body of work for this particular Zombie project. He’s a great guy though. Good for him, but I remain skeptical. Way to shake things up.
what a terrible idea… mike white is one of the most overrated guys working in hollywood. And I’m referring to his writing. You are gonna let this guy direct? Ouch. Good luck with that one Lionsgate.
You have to be kidding me. No way that cast stays intact or this movie actually gets made with him directing. Worst choice ever. Has anyone involved seen Year of the Dog? or anyone else for that matter? What a Joke.
whatever, man you’re a joke I think he’s cool Chuck and Buck is a classic
Although I love zombie/monster movies, this one seems to be a waste. What works great as a novel, doesn’t always work as a movie.
What audience is going to -want- to go see this movie?
Sure, Pride and Prejudice is still popular over 200 years later, but are people that are fans of the novel going to go see a ZOMBIE movie take on the novel?
Why would fans of zombie movies want to see a zombie movie set in the 19th century world of Pride and Prejudice?
It works as a novel fine, but as a movie it’s going to do very, very poorly.
Besides Jonathan Demme, it would have been cool to have Matt Reeves direct this movie. Lionsgate dropped the ball on this one.
Yep. Makes total sense. A pedestrian, run-off the mill comedy writer with no track record directing features other than an unwatchable indie movie will give us his treatment on zombies and Jane Austen. Please, Carl Icahn, hurry up and put an end to this disastrous excuse for creative management at Lions Gate.
Mike White?? Of SCHOOL OF ROCK fame? And this was supposed to be a hotly contested assignment? At least that gives hope to all second-rate gag writers on stupid TV shows that their dreams of directing Hollywood movies may yet come true…how weird.
Are we talking about the same Mike White? How is he a second-rate gag writer? What stupid TV show? Seems like he’s written a lot of smart, distinct movies. He’s one of my favorite screenwriters. And if he steps up his game as a director, could be great.
yes his credits are small but he has a great and subtle touch and is due a home run. loved school of rock and nacho libre. year of the dog was a nice off-beat film and chuck and buck showed some real acting and writing chops.
go mike.
I have worked with Mike White and he is a gem. He is a sensitive writer with a unique point of view. And he creates great female roles.
And instead of Bradley Cooper i guess we can now look forward to Jack Black as Darcy. Please. This project just went to development hell in a hand basket.
another project guaranteed to be a hit on the Internet and nowhere else
Inspired choice. He’s going to do something interesting with this.
By smart disctinct movies I guess you mean Year of the Dog? Or school of rock? I also guess your threshold for smartness is relatively low. I have no idea how they’ll drive foreign sales or cast with this director. The movie is destined not to get made now.
hey, I just had a super-duper upper echelon of the Hollywood brain tree moment of creativity. Let’s film a version of the Bible and just thrown in some zombies. How awesome would that be! Zombies are hot. Or vampires. Either one. I’m so creative, I should be working for the studios. Zombies. Perfect. Maybe Shakespeare with Zombies!
Sorry but Mike White is a talentless nice guy. I’ll take a talented a-hole any day… At least you’d get something worth watching.
this will be interesting to see the zombies in this classic. I wonder what will happen to Mr. Darcy;)
